  • Patent number: 4845920
Abstract: The present invention comprises a wrapping apparatus having a frame, a reciprocally driven carriage moveably mounted on the frame, the carriage being adapted to hold a rotatable roll of stretchable film material and a film width varying mechanism. A driven rotatable turntable adapted to support a load is positioned adjacent to the frame, and the leading edge of the film material is held adjacent the load. A brake is connected to the film roll to restrict movement of the web of material from the roll and the film width varying mechanism is mounted in the material path so that the film web travels through a pivotable "C" shaped assembly of the film width varying mechanism to collapse the film web width so that the web edges are formed into rope configurations connected by a membrane of film.

  • Patent number: 4833017
Abstract: A thermoplastic stretch wrap film exhibits a significant level of cling on one surface but no appreciable cling force on the other, the latter surface exhibiting a slide property when in contact with a film or like surface due to the presence of particulate antiblock agent mechanically bonded thereto. The film can be used to overwrap one or a group of articles to form a unitized packaged unit employing any of the known and conventional tension-wrapping techniques. Because of its one-sided cling and slide capabilities, pallet loads overwrapped with the film and in mutual contact avoid film tearing or destruction when the pallet loads are separated from each other.

  • Patent number: 4821489
Abstract: Produce packages are stacked onto a pallet having an underlying gasproof plastic sheeting. The loaded pallet is placed on a rotatable table and a plastic bag is lowered over the produce which has its lower edges located partway down over the upturned portions of the plastic sheeting and onto the rim of the pallet. Two rolls of tape mounted at different heights on vertical spindles closely adjacent the table provide two tape strips with an edge portion overlapping. An idler roller joins the two strips of tape together in a single composite tape strip. The composite tape strip is applied by a pressure roller along the lower edge of the plastic bag and the pallet. After a full revolution of the table is completed, the tape is cut and the bag is completely sealed to the pallet. A lever arm on the pressure roller is spring-loaded to maintain the tape compressingly contacting the plastic bag and pallet throughout the full range of table rotation. Artificial gaseous environment is then provided to sealed container.

  • Patent number: 4816109
Abstract: A tape dispenser for taping a product. A lever unit is pivotally mounted in a frame, with a support for a roll of tape. A cutter head and a tape roller are carried by the lever unit, with the tape following a path from the initial roll of tape over the roller to the cutter head, with the adhesive side of the tape exposed and away from the components of the dispenser. The cutter head is pivotally mounted on the lever unit and a linkage or a rack and pinion provides for pivoting the cutter head from a tab folding position to a cutting position as tape is pulled from the roll, over the roller and onto the product. The taped product is cut from the remainder of the tape at the cutter thereby releasing the pulling force on the lever unit which returns to its original position producing slack in the tape which is folded over to produce the desired tab.

  • Patent number: 4790125
Abstract: A net dispensing mechanism for a round baler is disclosed wherein a pair of pinch rollers are cooperable with a driven feed roller to feed netting material from a source of supply into the bale forming mechanism of the round baler so that the finished round bale can be wrapped with an external layer of netting before being ejected from the baler. The pinch rollers are mounted on opposing sides of the feed roller and are adjustable relative thereto to permit proper engagement of both pinch rollers with the feed roller to allow proper feeding of net therebetween. They project outwardly, perpendicular to the external surface of the drum in the front and lower area.

  • Patent number: 4677807
Abstract: An optional mechanism for enveloping a bale, in the bale chamber of a large round baler, with a wrapping material such as plastic sheet or net is provided on a baler having an automatic twine tie mechanism. The optional mechanism is embodied such that it utilizes mechanical and hydraulic controls of the twine tie mechanism for effecting automatic engagement of a normally disengaged drive roll drive for feeding wrap material into the bale chamber in response to a bale reaching a desired diameter in the chamber and for automatically severing the wrap material once a length thereof sufficient for encompassing a bale a desired amount has been disposed as determined by the time it takes a speed-controlled hydraulically operated twine arm to swing from one side to the other of the bale chamber.

Abstract: A bale wrapping mechanism for wrapping a large round bale with a wrap material such as plastic sheet material or net, is mounted to the rear of a bale discharge gate. Drive rolls are located rearwardly of the gate and are selectively drivable for dispensing wrap material onto the rear end of a guide pan extending beneath and engaged with a portion of bale-forming belts extending between lower rear and lower front belt support rolls carried by the discharge gate. A guide finger assembly is secured to the front of the pan and includes a plurality of fingers located in gaps between the bale-forming belts and including forward end portions curved arcuately about the lower front belt support roll for directing wrap material about the roll and into a pinch point defined between the belts and a bale desired to be wrapped by the material.

Abstract: The round bale wrapping machine is tractor operated and is equipped with a rotatable platform to support the bale in an upright position for rotation about a vertical axis. The machine supported bale is located adjacent a wrapping mechanism which automatically wraps a plastic sheet material about the bale under the control of the tractor operator. The plastic sheet material is of a roll form rotatably carried on an upright arm at a fixed location on the machine frame. The wrapping mechanism is movably supported on the machine frame for selected movement with and relative to the rotatable platform and to the plastic roll and operates to automatically complete a first plastic wrap around the bale with the lead end of the plastic sheet pressed against the bale periphery at a position to be covered by a second wrap of the plastic sheet about the bale.

  • Patent number: 4628667
Abstract: A wrapping machine for wrapping a load in a unitary package. The load is supported on a rotatable support which can be rotated typically at speeds between 2 and 10 rpm. With the utilization of a variable speed DC motor drive in conjunction with an electronic control circuit, the speed of the support can be infinitely varied. As the support is rotated, a stretchable wrapping material is withdrawn from a rolled up sheet of such material and wrapped around the load due to the rotation of the support. A control mechanism controls the operation of the DC driving motor for causing the support to be rotated a plurality of turns for wrapping the load with the stretchable material being withdrawn from a dispensing mechanism. The control mechanism rotates the support at a first speed during a first portion of the rotatable movement of the support and then at a second slower speed during a subsequent portion of the rotatable movement of the support.

  • Patent number: 4619102
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sealing a film wrapping. A charge or load wherein an anvil is first brought into contact with the charge and then the wrapping operation commences. After the film is wrapped sufficiently to hold itself to the charge, a clamp holding the end of the film is released and is then moved to a retracted position where it stays until the wrapping is almost completed. When a first lap of film has been wrapped over the anvil, a jaw of the clamp is moved into position adjacent the anvil and a second lap of film is wound over the anvil and jaw. Next the heat sealer is operated to cooperate with the anvil and seal the two laps together and a second jaw of the clamp is moved to operative position to clamp the second or last lap of film which is then cut between the clamp and the heat seal so formed.
