Patent number: 4552951Abstract: This invention relates to azo dyes which may be unsubstituted or substituted with a variety of groups known to the dye art, and containing a diazonium moieties from an aniline type compound and certain coupler moieties from aniline, tetrahydroquinoline, or benzomorpholine compounds, wherein the diazonium moiety has one or two cinnamoyl substituents, and wherein one or more water-solubilizing groups such as a sulfonic acid group or its metal or amine salt may be present as a substituent in the dye molecule for acid dyeing. These dyes are particularly useful in dyeing one or more of polyamide cellulose acetate polyester, wool and other fibers.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1984Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Robert N. Patent number: 4541831Abstract: Described is a process for the production of substantially dustless water-soluble dye or optical brightener compositions, which process comprises mixing a dry, solid inorganic salt, heated to at least 50.degree. C., with a mixture of at least one dye or optical brightener, an adhesive as e.g. sorbitol, a dust binding surface active agent and further additives. Such compositions are negligibly dusty to dustfree, and retain these properties even after storage for months, particularly in the case where spray-dried material is used.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1980Date of Patent: September 17, 1985Assignee: Ciba-Geigy CorporationInventors: Walter Gunther, Kurt Hintermayr

Patent number: 4530724Abstract: The color of azo pigments derived from 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid or its salts are improved by the coupling reaction of a diazonium compound of an aromatic aminosulfonic acid with a coupling component which is a mixture of (1) 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid or its salt, (2) .beta.-naphthol or its salt, and (3) a phenolic by-product having a molecular weight of about 300 and containing about 1 equivalent of phenolic hydroxy groups. The phenolic by-product can be obtained by evaporating .beta.-naphthol from a tarry substance formed as a by-product during the reaction of an alkali .beta.-naphtholate with carbon dioxide, extracting the residue with an alkali and precipitating the soluble matter with an acid. The color or tone of the azo pigment is stabilized by the use of the coupling component.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1982Date of Patent: July 23, 1985Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Ueno Seiyaku Uno KenkyujoInventors: Ryuzo Ueno, Hiroaki Tsuchiya, Shigeru Itoh
