  • Patent number: 5675001
Abstract: Porphyrazine compounds having moieties substituted at the eight peripheral .beta.-pyrrole positions are disclosed. The porphyrazine compounds have the general structural formula: ##STR1## wherein M is H.sub.2 or a metal capable of complexing with the pyrrole nitrogen atoms, and A, B, C and D are independently selected from the group consisting of a thio moiety, an amino moiety, an oxo moiety, a phospho moiety, a seleno moiety, a telluro moiety and a non-coordinating moiety, like a hydrocarbon moiety, with the proviso that not all of A, B, C and D are a thio moiety and that not all of A, B, C, and D are a hydrocarbon moiety. The porphyrazine compounds, depending on the identity of A, B, C and D, are capable of complexing one to four metal ions to the periphery of the porphyrazine to form a multimetallic porphyrazine. Multimetallic porphyrazine compounds can be linked by the peripherally-complexed metal ions to form a linear, i.e., ribbon, polymer or a two-dimension, i.e., sheet polymer.

  • Patent number: 5062990
Abstract: Octasubstituted tetraphyrazinotetraazaporphrazine and compositions forming an electron acceptable discotic liquid crystal phase are disclosed. Said compounds and the metal complexes are easily soluble in an organic solvent such as chloroform or dichloromethane etc and are insoluble in acetone and alcohols; and therefore a columnar phase by silica gel/dichloromethane, recrystallization from tetra-hydrofuran or refining through solid liquid extraction by acetone is possible. Furthermore, stability in a giant molecular can be expected and a functional membrane can be formed by a solution cast method etc., thereby employing as an electon or photoelectron material or an indication element.

  • Patent number: 5059510
Abstract: Provided is an information recording medium, e.g., an optical recording medium, and a method for recording information thereon. The information layer of the recording medium comprises an organo macrocyclic chromophore containing a central hetero atom or two central hydrogen atoms or isotopes of hydrogen, e.g., a naphthalocyanine having silicon as the hetero atom, which chromophore is substituted with at least one substituent conferring film forming properties to the chromophore, e.g., a monomer or oligomeric substituent comprised of acid, amide or ester units. The information layer thereby offers excellent thermomechanical properties and exhibits excellent absorption properties all in a single component material. By utilizing a single component material, the problem of dye/polymer phase separation frequently encountered in dye/polymer mixtures is also overcome.
