  • Patent number: 4599409
Abstract: The present invention relates to new bisamidine derivatives of polycyclic compounds such as 5,10-dioxo-4,5,9,10-tetrahydro-4,9-dioxapyrene-6(5H)-phenanthridone and 5,10-dioxo-4,5,9,10-tetrahydro-4,9-dioxapyrenephenanthridine and to a process for their preparation. The polycyclic bisamidines according to the invention are distinguished by valuable chemotherapeutic properties, such as, for example, an action against amoebas and trichomonads.

  • Patent number: 4529798
Abstract: Fused carbocyclic ring derivatives of pyridine which contain a nitrile or thioamide group on the carbocyclic ring e.g. 8-cyano or thiocarboxamido-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinolines are prepared by a process in which a sodium, potassium, lithium or magnesium halide derivative of the pyridine compound is treated with a compound RaRbNCN wherein Ra and Rb are the same or different and represent alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aralkyl, or Ra and Rb are joined to form a heterocyclic ring with the nitrogen, and the product is treated with a proton source to obtain the nitrile which is optionally treated with a sulphurizing agent to form the thioamide. The nitriles or thioamides may be isolated as their acid addition salts.

  • Patent number: 4335226
Abstract: Adsorbents are provided for the affinity-specific separation of macromolecular materials, particularly biopolymers, the adsorbents comprising a polymeric carrier on to which an affine residue for the macromolecular material is covalently bound, either directly or via polymeric spacer. Preferred affine residue is comprised of a specific complex formers which are base-specific and/or structure specific for the macromolecular material. The invention also provides novel complex formers comprising a certain dyestuff residues and processes for their preparation.

  • Patent number: 4250294
Abstract: A polymer having aromatic or heterocyclic rings as the only structural elements said aromatic or heterocyclic rings containing at least two nitro groups is disclosed as well as a method of preparing the same. The polymers are useful as binding agents for thermo stable propellants and can be easily formed into films. They remain thermally stable up to temperatures of at least 200.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4174447
Abstract: A decarboxylation process for coupling aromatic compounds wherein cyclic hydrocarbons and heterocyclic compounds having at least one labile ring hydrogen are reacted with the mono silver salts of aromatic carboxylic acids, or mono silver salts of unsaturated compounds such as .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated acid compounds, or silver trifluoroacetate, or the mono silver salts are reacted with themselves, by heating to temperatures of 100.degree. to 500.degree. C. at pressures of 0.1 to 10 atmospheres, or by irradiating the reactants with ultraviolet light of 200 to 400 nanometers at temperatures of -30.degree. to 150.degree. C. The resulting dimers, trimers, polysubstituted polyphenyls, polyheterocyclics and trifluoromethylated aromatics are useful as heat transfer media, as intermediates for high molecular weight polymers, pesticides and petroleum additives, and as scintillation counters.
