Cyclone Or Centrifugal Whirl Type Deflector Patents (Class 55/337)
  • Patent number: 8393050
Abstract: A cyclonic portable vacuum cleaner/dust collector for workshop or other use has a conic body that is supported on a hand cart or dolly. A funnel shaped divider plate within the conic body divides it into a cyclonic chamber between the divider plate and the lower nose, and a filter chamber between the divider plate and a motor plate that closes the upper mouth of the conic body. The filter chamber contains a filter cartridge. A vacuum air pump is mounted on the motor plate, and is covered by a shroud or housing. Clean, filtered air is exhausted into the ambient. Process dust settled into a dust collection drum supported beneath the nose of the conic body. A pulse cleaning arrangement serves for periodic filter cleaning. The supporting cart can be wheeled or can use a wall bracket for wall mounting.

  • Patent number: 8387204
Abstract: A handheld cleaning appliance includes a dirty air inlet, a clean air outlet and separating apparatus for separating dirt and dust from an airflow in an airflow path leading from the air inlet to the air outlet. The cyclonic separator is arranged in a generally upright orientation. A base surface of the main body and a base surface of the cyclonic separator together form a base surface of the appliance for supporting the appliance on a surface. By providing a base surface of the appliance which is made up of the base surface of the main body and the base surface of the cyclonic separator, the appliance is provided with a substantial base surface on which the appliance can be stably and reliably supported. This is also achieved without substantially increasing the size of the appliance as a whole.

  • Patent number: 8377160
Abstract: A cyclonic dust collector arrangement employs a cyclone that has a conic body formed of a conic wall. An upper divider plate closes off the upper end of the conic body, with a vortex tube descending from a central passage in the divider plate. The conic body has a narrow nose at a lower end so that the upper divider plate and the lower nose define a cyclonic chamber within the conic body. The inlet conduit penetrates the conic wall below the divider plate. The fan chamber of the separator is mounted above the divider plate, and serves to induce air flow from the inlet conduit into the cyclonic chamber, and through said vortex tube into the fan chamber. The air is discharged through a final filter. This construction has reduced manufacture costs and improved dust separation.

Abstract: This cyclone device performs diphasic gas-oil separation to remove oil from the recirculated crank cases of an internal combustion engine. Mounted such that it can move vertically inside the cyclone is a body (7) exhibiting symmetry of revolution, particularly one of cylindro-conical overall shape. The body (7) delimits, with the walls of the cylindrical collecting zone (2) and/or of the conical zone (3) for recuperating the liquid oil, an annular gap (13) such that the passage cross section can vary according to the self-adjusting heightwise position of the body (7), as a function of the gas flow rate. The speed of the gases thus remains constant for variable gas flow rates.

Abstract: The present invention is a device that rapidly and effectively separates and collects debris from airflow between a debris source and a vacuum source. The device comprises a first chamber situated above and adjoining a second chamber. The first chamber functions to separate and remove the debris and the second chamber functions to collect the debris. The first chamber is circular in cross-section and comprises an upper portion and a downward and outward sloping sidewall. The upper portion has an output port connected by a first conduit to the vacuum source and the sidewall has an input port connected by a second conduit to the debris source. Air and debris are drawn into the first chamber through the input port by suction created at the output port. The debris is centrifugally forced to the sidewall whereby it is then centripetally forced downward into the second chamber through a peripheral opening between the sidewall and a barrier, while cleaned air is evacuated through the output port.

The smooth interior and offset relationship of the inflow and outflow passages causes air to take a cyclonic path between the inflow passage and the filter. Debris in the airstream is pushed outward—away from the filter—by centripetal force. Eddies form proximate the base. Debris escapes the airstream there, where it either remains or, depending upon the chamber's orientation relative to gravity, falls back into the airflow where it is again directed away from the filter.

Abstract: A pressure cyclone is disclosed having a concave top head, wherein the concave top head has a substantially flat roof disposed in the interior of the cyclone vessel. An inlet is tangentially-coupled to the vessel and has an inlet nozzle disposed therein and configured to smoothly transition into the cyclone vessel to create a vortex that separates solid particulates from an incoming particulate-fluid suspension. In particular, the one surface of the inlet nozzle is tangent to the inner surface of cyclone vessel and another surface of the inlet nozzle is parallel and continuous with the substantially flat roof. An inlet casing is disposed around a length of the inlet nozzle and configured to transition from a circular casing to an elliptical casing along the length of the inlet nozzle, and couple to the vessel with the elliptical casing.

  • Patent number: 8142551
Abstract: A filtration apparatus comprises a casing defining an inner cavity with an upper cylindrical portion and a lower hopper portion. An inlet feeds gas and solids into the inner cavity and causes movement of the solids in a downward spiral path in the casing. A solids outlet at a bottom of the lower hopper portion outlets the solids from the casing. A gas outlet exhausts gases from the casing. An annular arrangement of ports in a wall of the lower hopper portion of the casing injects an other gas in the inner cavity. The ports are oriented to guide the other gas into following a partially vertical path into the inner cavity to disrupt the movement of the solids in the downward spiral path to allow a capture of the solid particles by the capturing solids. A gas source is connected to the arrangement of ports.
