A fan is mounted to the base assembly, and draws air through the filter assembly. The base and filter assemblies include adjoining walls having openings which are substantially smaller in area than the areas of the adjoining walls and area through which air is drawn in through the filter assembly. A resilient gasket having a passage approximately the size of these openings is positioned between the adjoining walls. The filter assembly is drawn towards the base assembly when the fan is operated, thereby enhancing the seal formed by the gasket against the adjoining walls. • Patent number: 5512086
Abstract: A high-efficiency air filtering apparatus for cleaning and circulating air in a closed room is in the shape of a vertical cylinder and includes a semi-cylindrical housing and a semi-cylindrical filtering chamber, both enclosing a centrifugal blower configured to suck filtered air out of the apparatus through the filter and to blow it into the room. The apparatus is characterized by that the filtering chamber contains a closely pleated filter sheet of HEPA-filter which is covered on top and bottom by flat panels and is air-tightly pressed onto the semi-cylindrical housing, thus making the apparatus completely air tight. The filtering chamber is urged onto the contour of the filtering chamber and is releasably fastened to the top and bottom of the housing, permitting replacement of the filter after clogging.

  • Patent number: 5395410
Abstract: An improved fume exhauster includes a housing forming therein a receiving space in which a suction and filtration unit is disposed. Fastened to the lower portion of the receiving space of the housing is a bottom plate having a fume sucking hole and a plurality of air exit holes arranged at a predetermined interval along left, right and front edges thereof. The fume is sucked in through the fume sucking hole of the bottom plate and is subsequently filtered by a filtration member. The filtered fume (clean air) is caused to pass through the air exit holes to form an air curtain under the fume exhauster. The air curtain acts to prevent the dissipation of the fume so as to reinforce the sucking and exhausting effect of the fume exhauster.

  • Patent number: 5279629
Abstract: An air handling and filtering system is provided for with conventional textile machines. The apparatus includes a common vacuum system for drawing first and second independent airstreams through the textile machines. A filtering system operates with the vacuum system to filter the useful white waste fiber material from all of the first airstreams. Individual filtering devices are provided for each textile machine and are housed in end-housing units disposed as one end of the textile machine. The individual filtering devices filter generally waste fiber material from the second airstreams drawn through the textile machines. The individual filtering devices can be isolated from the common vacuum system so that the individual waste fiber filters can be cleaned without stopping or otherwise affecting the critical first airstream so as not to detrimentally affect yarn formation at the spinning stations of the textile machines.

  • Patent number: 5273561
Abstract: A physical compact vacuum pickup device of critically safe volume and geometric shape is provided for use in radioactive enclosures, such as a small glove box, to facilitate manual cleanup of either wet or dry radioactive material. The device is constructed and arranged so as to remain safe when filled to capacity with plutonium-239 oxide. Two fine mesh filter bags are supported on the exterior of a rigid fine mesh stainless steel cup. This assembly is sealed within, and spaced from, the interior walls of a stainless steel canister. An air inlet communicates with the interior of the canister. A modified conventional vacuum head is physically connected to, and associated with, the interior of the mesh cup. The volume of the canister, as defined by the space between the mesh cup and the interior walls of the canister, forms a critically safe volume and geometric shape for dry radioactive particles that are gathered within the canister.

  • Patent number: 5269824
Abstract: A generally flat air filtering device for an optical disk drive is disclosed. As air is sucked into the disk drive via an inlet of a filter, a filter mat included in the filter removes dust and other impurities from the air. The purified air comes out of the outlet of a tube and then enters and cools an optical disk unit. The filter mat has a generally V-shaped section and, therefore, has a filtering area great enough to enhance efficient dust collection as well as the service life of the filter. To isolate the purified air from surrounding dust-containing air, an endless projection or rail is provided on the tube to bite into the filter mat which is flexible.
