Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for reducing the production of methane emanating from the digestive activities of a ruminant and/or for improving ruminant animal performance by using, as active compound at least one organic molecule substituted at any position with at least one nitrooxy group, or a salt thereof, which is administrated to the animal together with the feed. The invention also relates to the use of these compounds in feed and feed additives such as premix, concentrates and total mixed ration (TMR) or in the form of a bolus.

Abstract: 1,2-Bis-adducts of stable hindered nitroxide compounds with substituted ethylenes are prepared by reacting two equivalents of nitroxyl compound with an ethylenically unsaturated compound such as styrene or an acrylate ester. These adducts are very effective inhibitors to prevent the premature polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers when such monomers are distilled, processed or stored.

Abstract: A new nitro compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each lower alkyl or lower alkoxy(lower)alkyl, or ##STR2## is cyclized to form ##STR3## X is --O--, --S-- or --NH--, m is an integer 0 or 1, andR.sup.3 is carbamoyl, lower alkylcarbamoyl, lower alkanoyl, di-lower alkylaminosulfonyl, lower alkylsulfonyl, oxamoyl or a group of the formula: --(Y).sub.n --R.sup.4whereinY is --CO--, --SO.sub.2 --, --COCH.sub.2 -- or ##STR4## n is an integer of 0 or 1, and R.sup.4 is heterocyclic group which is optionally substituted with one or more substituents selected from lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, phenyl, carbamoyl, halogen, amino, lower alkylthio, hydroxy, lower alkylsulfonylamino and carbamoylmethyl, and pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which are useful as vasodilators.
