  • Patent number: 6673889
Abstract: Acrylate, or methacrylate, or allylic, functionalized polyfluorooxetanes are disclosed for use in radiation curable coating compositions. These acrylate, or methacrylate, or allylic, functionalized polymers provide improvements in wetting and surface properties that have previously been provided by migratory chemicals such as waxes and oils. The partially or fully fluorinated side groups of the fluorooxetanes are believed to be disproportionately present at the interfaces between the coating and the substrate and between the coating and the atmosphere.

Abstract: Novel addition products of hydroxyl-protecting groups (such as isocyanates) with oxyalkylene-substituted intermediates, such as poly(oxyalkylenated) aniline compounds, for the eventual production of substituted, and substantially pure, colorants, particularly diazo and triphenylmethane derivatives, through the reaction of such intermediates with certain reactants are provided. These new colorants exhibit improved wax and/or oil solubility and high purity, particularly due to the inability of certain impurities to deleteriously react with the protected hydroxyl groups of either the intermediate or the colorant during and/or after formation thereof. A method for producing such novel colorants through utilization of these novel substantially pure colorant intermediates is also provided.

Abstract: A low-monomer PU prepolymer containing free NCO groups which is obtained from polyhydric alcohols and diisocyanates differing in their reactivity and which is distinguished by the ratio of the NCO groups of the partly slower-reacting diisocyanate to the NCO groups of the faster-reacting diisocyanate. It is greater than 6:1. Nevertheless the prepolymer according to the invention cures more quickly than a known prepolymer predominantly containing fast-reacting NCO groups. In a preferred embodiment, TDI is used as the partly slower-reacting diisocyanate while MDI is used as the faster-reacting diisocyanate. The prepolymer is produced in two stages. The prepolymer according to the invention is suitable for bonding plastic articles, metals and paper, especially films. The accelerated absence of migration is particularly noticeable in this regard.

  • Patent number: 6288199
Abstract: The invention provides novel isocyanate-based compounds. Such novel compounds can be used in essentially all applications where conventional isocyanate-based compounds are employed. In other words, the novel isocyanate-based compounds can be used in the making of liquid and powder coating compositions, adhesives, rigid and moldable plastics and foams. The isocyanate-based compounds of the present invention include a polyfunctional isocyanate compound which is at least partially blocked with at least one of the following: a polyhydroxy aromatic compound, or a mixture of a polyhydroxy aromatic compound and a hydroxy-functional ester compound. The present invention further provides compositions which include the aforementioned novel isocyanate-based compound as a component. These compositions can be in the form of liquid coating compositions, powder coating compositions, powder slurry coating compositions, plastic compositions, adhesive compositions, or polymeric foam compositions.
