Abstract: Novel polyoxyalkylene fluoroalkyltrimellitate compounds are disclosed that are useful for improving the soil release properties of textiles. These compounds may be conveniently prepared by reacting a fluorinated alkyl thiol or amine with trimellitic anhydride monoacid chloride to form a fluorinated trimellitic anhydride intermediate product which is then reacted with a polyoxyalkylene derivative.
Abstract: This invention is directed to thiol containing compounds having no hydrolytically sensitive groupings which are useful as polymerization transfer agents or as curing agents in curable polymer systems containing polyenes and a free radical initiator. The thiol containing compounds are formed by reacting a polyol with an allylic halide to form a poly(unsaturated ether) whose double bonds are converted to thioesters by free radical catalyzed addition of SH groups from a thiolcarboxylic acid, e.g. thioacetic acid and the like. Hydrolysis of the thioester yields the desired thiol or polythiol derivative. Alternatively the poly(unsaturated ether) is reacted with H.sub.2 S to give the desired thiol or polythiol directly in a single step. The polythiols can be chain extended by any difunctional compound that reacts with the hydroxy groups on the polythiol.

Abstract: The fluorine-containing organic compound has the general formula:R.sub.f (CH.sub.2).sub.p O(RO).sub.m (CONHR'NHCOO).sub.q (C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O).sub.n X,wherein R.sub.f is a perfluoro alkyl group; R is an alkylene group; R' is a hydrocarbylene group; X is H, --PO.sub.3 H.sub.2 or --SO.sub.3 H; m and n are one of 0 and 1 to 50; p is one of 1 to 10; and q is 0 or 1,And is suited for a surface active agent having a high level of the surface activating property at a practical concentration.
Abstract: Perfluoroalkylthio glycols and esters thereof can be prepared by the free-radical catalyzed addition of a perfluoroalkylthiol to an acetylenic alcohol or ester thereof. The compounds obtained are useful intermediates for the synthesis of fluorochemicals with low free surface energies having oil and water repellent properties. In one embodiment, a perfluoroalkylthio glycol can be reacted with a diisocyanate to obtain a polyurethane containing perfluoroalkylthio groups, which polyurethanes are useful as coatings to provide oil and water repellence to textiles and as additives to plastics to provide mold-release and other desirable properties.
