Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of making fused ring compounds, such as indeno-fused naphthols, and fused ring indenopyran compounds, such as indeno-fused naphthopyrans, that each employ an unsaturated compound represented by the following Formula II. Referring to the unsaturated compound of Formula II: Ring-A can be selected from optionally substituted aryl (e.g., phenyl); m can be, for example, from 0 to 4; R1 for each m can be selected from optionally substituted hydrocarbyl (e.g., C1-C6 alkyl) optionally interrupted with at least one linking group (e.g., —O—); and R3 and R16 can each be independently selected from, for example, hydrogen or optionally substituted hydrocarbyl, such as C1-C8 alkyl. When Ring-A is a phenyl group, the unsaturated compound represented by Formula II can be referred to as an unsaturated indanone acid/ester compound, or an indenone acid/ester compound (depending on whether R16 is hydrogen, or an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group).

  • Publication number: 20110065945
Abstract: The present invention is intended to provide a method for producing a liquid metal chelate compound which may be used as it is or diluted in water or the like, in a very simple procedure, in a short time, in a large quantity, and at a low cost, and to provide a metal chelate compound. A metal is ground in a liquid containing an organic acid to form an unoxidized fine metal powder. For example, a metal is ground in a liquid containing the organic acid, or the organic acid is added after the metal is ground in a liquid, or the organic acid is added while grinding the metal in a liquid. The unoxidized fine metal powder is oxidized in the liquid containing an organic acid to generate a metal ion. As a result of this, the unoxidized fine metal powder is chemically bonded to the organic acid in the liquid thereby producing a liquid metal chelate compound. The liquid metal chelate compound is adsorbed by an absorber.

Specifically, the RAR agonists are administered or coadministered with retinoid drugs to prevent or ameliorate toxicity or side effects caused by retinoids or vitamin A or vitamin A precursors. The retinoid negative hormones can be used to potentiate the activities of other retinoids and nuclear receptor agonists. For example, the retinoid negative hormone called AGN 193109 effectively increased the effectiveness of other retinoids and steroid hormones in in vitro transactivation assays. • Patent number: 5977117
Abstract: Methods, compositions, and compounds for modulating the activity of an endothelin peptide are provided. The methods use compositions that contain compounds of formula (I): ##STR1## where X and Y are selected from groups that include O, S, and NH; and Ar.sup.1, Ar.sup.2 and Ar.sup.3 are independently selected from substituted or unsubstituted groups that include 5 to 6 membered aryl groups and heteraryl groups that contain one or two heteroatom(s). The methods are effected by contacting endothelin receptors with one or more of the compounds or with compositions containing one or more of the compounds prior to, simultaneously with, or subsequent to contacting the receptors with an endothelin peptide.
