Patent number: 4244171Abstract: Disclosed is a novel bulkable filamentary yarn of a flat yarn-like smooth appearance, said bulkable filamentary yarn is composed essentially of a bulkable portion and an interlaced portion existing alternately along the yarn length. Upon scouring, for example, said yarn develops its latent bulkiness similar to the fullness of silk, thus a silk-like appearance as well as a silk-like hand are provided in a fabric. The yarn itself can be obtained by heat-shrinking arc-like loops protruding on the yarn surface into a straightened state parallel to the yarn while the yarn is being tensioned along its length.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1979Date of Patent: January 13, 1981Assignee: Teijin LimitedInventors: Yoshiyuki Sasaki, Shiro Kumakawa, Katsuyuki Kasaoka

Patent number: 4173678Abstract: Disclosed is a non-twisted, non-commingled, draw-textured, multi-colored yarn having enhanced luminosity and vibrancy of color. The yarn has a total denier of from 1000 to 4000 and is produced from 4 to 16 discrete component yarns of a particular coloration and/or dye receptivity which are longitudinally disposed in a side-by-side registration. Each component yarn has a denier of about 250 and is made up of a multiplicity of continuous filaments of 10 to 20 denier/filament, all of which have the same coloration and/or dye receptivity. There are from 2 to 8 different colorations or dye receptivities present in the yarn. However, there is no discernable predominance of a single coloration or dye receptivity in any longitudinal or transverse segment of the yarn. Moreover, fabrics prepared from this yarn do not possess undesirable patterns, streaks, or blotches of color.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1978Date of Patent: November 6, 1979Assignee: Badische CorporationInventors: John H. Patent number: 4167847Abstract: Disclosed is a bulky yarn made from a thermoplastic multifilament yarn. Each of the individual filaments forming the yarn has a randomly varying thermal shrinkage along its length. The filaments in the cross-section of the yarn also have randomly varying thermal shrinkages. The bulky yarn forms a plurality of loops having a stable and compact configuration, while the number of filament slack portions which project outwardly from the yarn surface is significantly decreased.A method for producing a bulky yarn possessing the above-mentioned construction is also disclosed. In the method, individual filaments forming the multifilament yarn are interlaced with each other, before or after which the yarn is subjected to a so-called random heat treatment. The interlaced and randomly heat-treated yarn is supplied at an over-feed condition to a fluid turbulent flow region which causes the individual filaments to form a plurality of loops and entanglements, and then the yarn is wound onto a package.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1978Date of Patent: September 18, 1979Assignee: Toray Industries, Inc.Inventors: Hajime Arai, Yoshiaki Sato, Kiyoshi Nakagawa
