Publication number: 20130204060Abstract: Deactivation of a zeolite catalyst during its use to catalyse the oligomerisation of olefins, is often believed to be a result of the formation of high boiling polymers as by-products. These by-products can remain on the catalyst and undergo further conversion to higher molecular weight polymers, which resemble heavy tars and in some cases even have the appearance of coke-like material. These materials can coat the catalyst particles and plug pores in the catalyst, thereby causing catalyst deactivation. The invention relates to an improved method for regenerating such a catalyst.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2010Publication date: August 8, 2013Applicant: ExxonMobil Chemical Patents Inc.Inventors: John Stephen Godsmark, Georges Marie Karel Mathys, Hans Karel Theresia Goris, Roger Eijkhoudt, Stephen Harold Brown

Patent number: 7759533Abstract: A substantially surface-deactivated catalyst composition that is stable at least to 300° C. The catalyst includes a zeolite catalyst (e.g., ZSM-22, ZSM-23, or ZSM-57) having active internal Brönsted acid sites and a surface-deactivating amount of a rare earth or yttrium oxide (e.g., chosen from lanthanum oxide or lanthanides oxide). This catalyst is preferably used in a process for producing a higher olefin by oligomerizing a light olefin, wherein the process includes contacting a light olefin under oligomerization conditions with the substantially surface-deactivated catalyst composition.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2007Date of Patent: July 20, 2010Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering CompanyInventors: Jane C. Publication number: 20100168490Abstract: The present disclosure comprises a new method for hydrothermal synthesis of ferrierite zeolite, using tetramethylammonium and benzylmethylpyrrodlidine as directional structure agents, and does not require a subsequent process in order to obtain the acid form of the material. This aspect is very important as it avoids subject treatments of calcination and successive interchanges which degrade the structure of the zeolite. The synthetic ferrierite obtained by means disclosed processes has uses in catalytic processes of transformation of hydrocarbons, such as cracking, isomerization, alkylation, and polymerization. Specifically, it can be used in the isomerization of butene to isobutene. To be used in catalytic processes, the zeolite ferrierite must be heated in an oxidant atmosphere in conditions such that the organic material occluded in the interior is eliminated.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2008Publication date: July 1, 2010Inventors: Ana Belén Pinar Prieto, Joaquín Pérez Pariente, Luis Gómez-Hortigüela Sainz
