Publication number: 20020007171Abstract: In this invention, there is woven into or laminated to the fabric, (all types of fabrics or nonwoven material) a laminate or substance which is leak proof, and breathable. This invention is designed with feminine care in mind, especially during the female menstrual cycle. It can also be used at any time by a person female or male who feel the need to wear a protective leak proof, breathable garment. All females have various menstrual cycles and flow at various rates and during the heavier flowing days, it is very stressful worrying if you are going to leak through the feminine menstrual product to your outer clothing. Females have to dress accordingly, i.e., wearing dark clothing, long shirts, or long sweaters, etc., in the event of seepage through to their outer garments, to help minimize the embarrassing situation. During sleeping it is almost impossible to prevent leakage onto garments and bedding.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 1997Publication date: January 17, 2002Inventors: MARILYN MCMAHON-AYERST, DOREEN CLEMENT, BRENDA MALONEY-DAWSON

Patent number: 5779831Abstract: A method for forming an undergarment comprises the steps of transporting a two-dimensional web in a substantially flattened position on a transport device, cutting the web along a transverse edge to form a two-dimensional pre-form, gripping the pre-form adjacent each waist section with a gripping device in four gripping areas, jointly rotating at least the gripping means which hold the gripping areas in the region of the first transverse edge of the pre-form around a first axis of rotation extending substantially parallel to the transverse edges of the pre-form, rotating each gripping device around a respective axis of rotation extending generally parallel to the longitudinal sides of the pre-form to place the sealing areas located along the same longitudinal side in a contacting relationship, joining the superimposed sealing areas in a sealing unit, and releasing the undergarment from the gripping device. The apparatus comprises an umbrella-type mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1997Date of Patent: July 14, 1998Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventor: Christoph Johann Schmitz

Patent number: 5772825Abstract: A method for forming an undergarment having side seams from a two-dimensional preform comprises the steps of cutting a continuous web along transverse cut lines to form individual preforms; cutting each preform along a leg contour extending along each longitudinal side of the preform in the region of a central section, wherein each leg contour does not touch the respective longitudinal side, thus forming two gripping flaps; gripping the preform at the gripping flaps; pulling the gripping flaps outwardly away from the longitudinal sides such that the preform is doubled over along a transverse centerline and such that sealing areas in the region of back waist sections are placed in a superimposed relationship with sealing areas in the region of front waist sections; mutually connecting the sealing areas.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1997Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventor: Christoph Johann Schmitz

Patent number: 5769838Abstract: Pull-on garments provided with a continuous belt in the front region and the back region to distribute the forces generated during use in order to better fit the pull-on garment on the wearer. In a preferred embodiment, the pull-on garment comprises a chassis layer comprising a continuous sheet that defines a front region, a back region, and a crotch region; a first belt layer joined to the chassis layer in the front region; a second belt layer joined to the chassis layer in the back region; elastic panel members positioned between the belt layers and the chassis layers which laminate is mechanically stretched to form elastically extensible stretch laminates in both the front region and the back region in the side panels; and seams joining the front region to the back region so as to form the leg openings and waist openings. The continuous chassis layer and belt layers thus form the continuous belt of the pull-on garment.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1996Date of Patent: June 23, 1998Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Kenneth Barclay Buell, Edward Paul Carlin

Patent number: 5749865Abstract: An absorbent pants type article has a front waist-opening marginal stretchable region and a front waist stretchable region having upper, intermediate and lower stretchable subregions. The elongation stress of the front waist-opening marginal stretchable region is greater than the corresponding stress in the lower stretchable subregion. The stress in the lower stretchable region is greater than the stress in the upper stretchable subregion which is in turn greater than the stress in the intermediate stretchable subregion.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1996Date of Patent: May 12, 1998Assignee: Uni-Charm CorporationInventors: Masamitsu Yamamoto, Takamitsu Igaue, Toru Sasaki

Patent number: 5746731Abstract: A disposable belly protector of the present invention includes a front body and a rear body secured together along transversely opposite side edges thereof so as to form a tubular configuration and a pair of first elastic members secured along upper and lower openings of the tubular configuration and a pair of second elastic members secured to at least the front body between the first elastic members so as to extend between the transversely opposite side edges of the front body with a transversely symmetric arrangement which is only curved convexly toward the upper and lower openings, respectively. In another aspect of the present invention, a disposable diaper of pants type is seamlessly connected to the belly protector.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: Uni-Charm CorporationInventor: Kenichi Hisada
