  • Patent number: 6237481
Abstract: A material web is processed in a contact zone between a stationary roller and a driven working roller. The working roller diameter is smaller than the diameter of the stationary roller. The working roller is displaceable in all directions transverse to the length of the movement of the web. The working roller is pressed against the stationary roller by a presser that presses on a peripheral area of the working roller opposite the contact zone. The pressing operation is continuous over the working width of the working roller and the material web is permitted to pass through the contact zone between the working roller and the stationary roller.

  • Patent number: 6138559
Abstract: An apparatus for processing web-shaped material (90) comprises a working roller (5), a counter support (6), a pressure bearing structure (3) for exerting driving force to said working roller (5), a supporting carrier (1) and a pressing device which comprises a pressure hose arranged between the pressure bearing structure (3) and a supporting wall (12). The pressure hose is formed by a pressure hose element (2.1) which, when the apparatus is viewed in longitudinal section, has a L-, U- or oval-shaped cross section and at least one bent portion (22) extending away from a counter support surface (31) for the hose rearwardly towards the rear side of the apparatus and a support portion (21) for making planar contact with the counter support surface (31) for the hose, a hose-free space (150) being formed at each filling state of the hose by each bent portion (22) in a flat cavity (15) between the counter support surface (31) for the hose and the support wall (12).

  • Patent number: 4949558
Abstract: Enclosure having a controlled atmosphere for the continuous treatment of textile yarns deposited on a continuous conveyor belt outside the enclosure and transported by the conveyor belt through the enclosure. The enclosure is at least partially sealed and includes an inlet and an outlet which are traversed by the conveyor belt, each having a sealing head with rollers, in which each sealing head includes at least one lower roller and an upper roller which are positioned transversely and across from one another below and above the conveyor belt, respectively. The sealing head is arranged to have a biasing force exerted by one of the rollers in the direction of the other in a manner so as to tighten the conveyor belt and yarns that it carries between them. The biasing arrangement includes at least one hydraulic jack connected to a hydraulic pressure source via a control and adjustment device.

  • Patent number: 4928589
Abstract: A differential pressure actuator includes two fluid containing bags mounted on opposite sides of a support bar, and one of the bags is coupled to a load by a plate at the side of the bag opposite the bar. The other bag is also coupled to the load by a second plate mounted at the opposite end of the other bag, and the second plate is mechanically connected to the first plate by a rod extending along the central axis of the first and second bags. Both of the bags contained a pressurized fluid in excess of atmospheric pressure, and the difference in the forces generated by the two bags is impressed upon the load. In one embodiment, the first and second bags are provided with a bellows surrounding the rod to seal the interior of the bag from ambient atmosphere. In another embodiment, the seal is provided by two sleeves coupled by a sealing ring. The load is a movable roller in a ringer for coating steel, and the movable roller is provided with separate actuators at opposite ends of the roller.

  • Patent number: 4344211
Abstract: Apparatus and method for high pressure sizing, including sizing squeeze apparatus which effectively utilizes high pressure squeeze loading to remove excess sizing from the warp yarns, and thus to reduce the water evaporation requirement of the yarn. The high pressure sizing squeeze apparatus includes positive drive of the rubber-surface roll as well as the steel roll to prevent slippage which could strain the warp, and maintains a substantially invariant squeeze loading irrespective of variable tension in the roll drive. The surface speed of the rubber-covered squeeze roll may be slightly less than the surface speed of the steel roll, to reduce the torque required to drive the rubber-covered roll at relatively high squeeze pressures where substantial slippage is encountered. A torque limiter controls maximum axial drive torque supplied to the rubber-surface roll, in response to the magnitude of squeeze loading.

  • Patent number: 4306495
Abstract: An extractor system for commercial laundries includes a wringer roll extractor coupled via a feed conveyor to a shake-out tumbler into which batches of laundry are placed. The laundry is wet and compacted, having been transported from the washers. The wringer roll extractor compresses the laundry pieces with a force of 37,000 pounds between wringer rolls approximately 36 inches in diameter rotating at approximately 3.5 rpm. Under the pressure and time duration developed by this extractor, the laundry pieces give up water to a retention level of approximately 60%. A photocell is mounted on the feed conveyor to monitor the rate at which laundry pieces are fed to the extractor, operating through a speed control mechanism to limit the speed of the shake-out tumbler. A second photocell, also mounted on the feed conveyor, serves to monitor the flow of laundry items to detect the presence of larger clumps which have not been broken up by the shake-out tumbler.
