  • Patent number: 7849719
Abstract: The locking device contains an axle, a bolt, a positioning plate, and a cylinder. The axle is connected to a thumb-turn knob and, from a circumference of the axle, a lever is extended perpendicularly. The bolt has a vertical trough in a rear section. An end of the lever is embedded in the trough. The positioning plate has an elongated opening inside which the axle is embedded. The cylinder is positioned adjacent to and above the rear section of the bolt. The cylinder has a key hole in the center and an activation bar extended from a circumference of the cylinder. When the thumb-turn knob or a key in the key hole is turned, the positioning plate is moved towards an opposite direction. In turn, the lever of the axle pushes or pulls the bolt in the same directions as the key or the knob is turned.

  • Publication number: 20100307207
Abstract: A lock assembly including a latchbolt that may be effectively lengthened to accommodate varied backset distances for doors. The lock assembly may include a housing, a latchbolt including an attachment member, an extension member, a retractor element, and an operator. The extension member may be mounted to the attachment member to extend from the latchbolt for effective lengthening of the latchbolt. The retractor element, operatively responsive to the operator, is disposed within the housing for linear reciprocating movement to move the latchbolt, and is selectively engageable with the attachment member or with the extension member. The extension member defines a recess adapted to receive the attachment member. A latch case may receive the latchbolt, and a cylindrical sleeve may receive the latch case and the latchbolt when the extension member is in use to increase the backset dimension.

  • Patent number: 6739162
Abstract: The present invention comprises a simple deadbolt assembly for hinged doors. The deadbolt assembly includes a deadbolt slideably mounted between two side plates for movement between an extended position and a retracted position. A cam is rotatably mounted between the side plates and actuates movement of the deadbolt upon rotation of the cam. The cam is mounted through an elongated opening in the deadbolt and includes an actuating arm with a guide. The guide is positioned within a corresponding guide channel formed in the deadbolt. Upon rotation of the cam, the guide is rotated through the guide channel and the force of the cam guide is transferred to the deadbolt causing the deadbolt to move between its extended and retracted positions. Opposing leaf springs are mounted to the deadbolt, along the length of the elongated opening to engage the cam and prevent binding between the cam and deadbolt during actuation of the deadbolt.

  • Patent number: 6393878
Abstract: A mortise lock is provided including a housing for a latch bolt and a deadbolt which are mounted in the housing for movement between a retracted position where the latch bolt and deadbolt are inside the housing and an extended position where a portion of the latch bolt and deadbolt extend from the housing. A key-operated cylinder in the housing operates to move the deadbolt between the retracted and extended positions. A latch operator is also provided for retracting both the latch bolt and the deadbolt. A moveable blocking element in the housing prevents movement of the latch operator in one position of the blocking element. A locking lever operatively connects the deadbolt and the blocking element so that when the deadbolt is extended the blocking element is automatically moved to the position blocking the latch operator. The locking lever comprises an arm member integral with the locking lever.

  • Patent number: 6367294
Abstract: Mailbox locks and mailboxes comprising such locks are disclosed. The lock includes a key lock mechanism and a strike bar that can be mounted on exterior surfaces of a housing and a door that defines an interior volume into which mail is deposited. In an embodiment, the key lock mechanism includes a key lock cover plate defining a slot for mounting the key lock mechanism to the door with screws or other fasteners inserted through the door and into the slot. Sliding the key lock mechanism along the slot permits alignment of the key lock mechanism. The strike bar also defines a respective slot. The strike bar also defines a locking cavity and an opening cavity such that, with the lock in a locked position, a bolt of the key lock mechanism can be captured by the locking cavity so that the door can be opened only by unlocking the lock. Whenever the bolt is engaged in an opening cavity, the door is readily openable without a key.

  • Patent number: 3934435
Abstract: A lockset has a die cast, monolithic body pivotally supporting a lever handle which upon actuation and through fingers engages tabs of a lock bolt assembly for selective linear retraction of the latter. A rotatable knob carried by the body through a spindle and a guide plate mounts a cam plate which acts, upon rotation of the knob in either direction, to retract the bolt assembly. The bolt has opposed U-shaped guides which receive the guide plate and guide the bolt laterally and vertically. A lock has a lock lever which positively engages the bolt assembly to lock the latter in place. A follower lever and the lock lever are pivoted about a common axis. The follower responds to a barrel lock between two positions to lock and unlock the lock lever from the bolt assembly. The lock lever also responds to a latch pin independently of the follower on the opposite side of the lockset from the barrel lock, to lock and unlock the bolt assembly.
