  • Patent number: 8952782
Abstract: A door usable for after market installation of remotely actuatable locking systems is provided with a spacer element within its interior. The spacer element includes an orifice sized for accommodating a motor and locking mechanism. A tubular element is also provided through the interior of the door body adjacent to the first orifice, the tubular element being usable to accommodate wiring. A motor disposed within the first orifice can be placed in communication with a power source and/or receiver using wiring extending through the tubular element, while a lock assembly can be installed within the first orifice in operative engagement with the motor. Receipt of a remote signal by the receiver causes actuation of the motor, which then actuates the lock assembly. Use of the spacer and tubular elements enables all primary components of the remotely actuatable locking system to be installed within the interior of the door, after market.

Abstract: A locking system enabling selective handle turning direction to operate an unlocking mechanism is provided. The system comprises a handle, a gear rack driven linearly by rotation of the handle, and a plate removably coupled to the gear rack by a coupling means, wherein the plate moves in a first linear direction in response to handle rotation. When the coupling means is in a first position to couple the plate to the gear rack, a clockwise rotation of the handle displaces the plate in the first linear direction. When the coupling means is in a second position to couple the plate to the gear rack, a counter-clockwise rotation of the handle displaces the plate in the first linear direction. Movement of the plate in the first direction operates the unlocking mechanism.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a latch assembly that includes a pawl assembly, a lever assembly and a lock assembly. The pawl assembly is actuated from an open position to a closed assembly by the lever assembly. The lever assembly includes a drive lever having a slot and a driven lever having a slot that is open on one end. The lock assembly has an engagement member that moves along the slot of the drive lever between an engaged position and a disengaged position. When in the engaged position, the engagement member is received within the slot of the driven lever. When in the disengaged position, the engagement member is outside of the slot of the driven lever.
