Patent number: 7823425Abstract: A latch assembly for preventing access into a door or drawer is provided. The latch assembly includes a housing configured to mount on a door or drawer, and at least one dog is slidably mounted in the housing for movement between a locked position and an unlocked position. The latch assembly include actuators operatively connected to the dog for moving the dog to the unlocked position. A key is insertable into a key slot on a side of the housing to move the actuators. The latch assembly may be used in combination with a catch assembly configured to mount on a door or drawer frame. The catch assembly is constructed to engage at least a portion of the dog in the locked position. The catch assembly may include a spring to move the latch assembly relative to the catch assembly such that the door or drawer may open slightly while in the locked position enabling a key to be inserted into the key slot to move the dog to the unlocked position.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2007Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: Elbee Pty Ltd.Inventor: David W. Publication number: 20100089107Abstract: A locking assembly for a swinging door of a container. The locking assembly includes an axially elongated lock rod having cam structure at opposed ends thereof. The lock rod is provided, toward each end thereof, with axially spaced radial projections which are axially fixed relative to the lock rod and define a channel therebetween. The locking assembly further includes a pair of guide plates; with each guide plate rotatably accommodating a lengthwise portion of the lock rod between the plate and the door. Each guide plate further includes structure for allowing each plate to be fastened to the door. After each guide plate is fastened to the door, a portion of each plate is entrapped between the axially spaced radial projections on the lock rod whereby inhibiting axial shifting movements of the lock rod.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2008Publication date: April 15, 2010Inventor: Brian A. Patent number: 6374650Abstract: The invention is concerned with a lock mechanism of the kind having a deadbolt (9) which is operable by either an inside actuator or an outside actuator. The inside actuator usually includes a turn knob or the like, and the outside actuator usually includes a key operated lock. The lock mechanism includes a gear train (8) through which each of the two actuators is drivably connected to the deadbolt (9). The gear train includes two drive gears (13, 14) which are independently rotatable about a common axis of rotation, and each is connected to a respective one of the two actuators so as to rotate in response to operation of that actuator. The gear train (8) also includes two driven gear (17, 18) which are united to form a single piece composite gear (16), and each driven gear (17, 18) is cooperable with a respective one of the two drive gears (13, 14).Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1999Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Lockwood Australia Pty Ltd.Inventor: Donald John Newman

Patent number: 6042160Abstract: A vehicle back door latch device has a striker fixed to a vehicle body, and a latch assembly fixed to a vehicle back door. The latch assembly comprises a main metal plate having a vessel-shaped storing portion for storing a latch, a sub metal plate fixed to the main metal plate so as to cover an upper opening of the storing portion. The storing portion is defined by a bottom wall, a front wall, a rear wall, a right-hand wall and a left-hand wall. A main notch portion and a sub notch portion are respectively formed in the bottom wall and the front wall for receiving the striker when the back door is closed. The rear wall is formed into an arc shape swelling backward. Engaging portions are respectively formed on both sides of the sub notch portion of the front wall, and studs which are engaged with the engaging portions when the back door is closed are fixed to the striker.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Mitsui Kinzoku Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yoshikazu Hamada, Yuji Yoda

Patent number: 5765411Abstract: A security bar that can be retrofitted onto a gate used in a typical fence construction to prevent unauthorized tampering with or opening of the gate. The device includes a rigid locking bar that is firmly mounted to the gate, a T-shaped strike plate, and a key-actuated latchbolt mechanism mounted within the inside of the rigid locking bar so that the latchbolt and strike plate cannot be accessed for tampering. The strike plate is mounted to a conventional fence post with fasteners that are not accessible when the gate is closed. Using the present device, which can be retrofitted to any type of outdoor gate, a positive locking action insures that the gate is locked at all times and cannot be jimmied or pulled upward to a position that would allow it to be opened. The locking mechanism allows access from either side of the gate for actuation.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1996Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Inventor: William Rowan

Patent number: 5044181Abstract: A dropbolt lock having a pair of dropbolts movable between knuckles is assembled on a formed steel assembly plate which is attached to a base plate, the assembly plate providing the spaced knuckles. A cam operator operates the dropbolts between true dead lock positions. On the inside of the lock, a cylinder lock or a thumb turn may be assembled by a single screw. The cover is provided with attachment screws which are concealed by the locking bolt when in locked position.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1990Date of Patent: September 3, 1991Assignee: Medeco Security Locks, Inc.Inventors: Stevie C. Patent number: 4719774Abstract: A deadbolt assembly of the kind in which a deadbolt is mounted on a housing for linear movement between inoperative and inoperative positions in which the deadbolt engages with and does not engage respectively, a strike. An actuator is rotatably mounted on the housing and is drivably connected to the actuator through a drive plate which rotates in response to operation of the actuator, and a drive pin is secured to the plate at a position radially outwards of the rotational axis of the plate. The pin locates within a non-circular hole provided in the deadbolt and reacts against edges of that hole to cause the deadbolt movement. The pin moves along an arcuate path between each of its two extreme positions, and at each of those positions the pin lies on a straight line which extends substantially parallel to the direction of movement of the deadbolt and which substantially intersects the rotational axis of the drive plate. Both the deadbolt and the strike can be made from steel or other strong metal.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1986Date of Patent: January 19, 1988Assignee: Ogden Industries Pty. Patent number: 4414828Abstract: A locking apparatus for a compartment door operated by a key comprises an outer cylinder fixed in the compartment door, a rotor inserted into the cylinder, a plurality of locking plates inserted into the rotor radially slidably to engage with the cylinder, one or more engaging plates inserted into the rotor radially slidably, a ring surrounding the rotor independently rotatable with respect to the rotor, a lip projected from the ring engageable with the engaging plates, operating means to rotate the ring, and engaging means maintains the door closed and releasable by the rotor. In door-opening operation, the rotor is rotated by the key from a locking position to an releasing position, then the key is removed to engage the ring with rotor. This engagement enables the operating means to rotate the rotor through the ring.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1981Date of Patent: November 15, 1983Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha Tokai-Rika-Denki-SeisakushoInventors: Toshikazu Takinami, Masao Horaguchi, Keizo Suzuki
