  • Patent number: 6606889
Abstract: A lever latch, for releasably latching a door to a corresponding door frame, includes a housing having a handle pivotally mounted therein and rotatable between opened and closed positions. In the handle closed position, a bolt mounted to the handle engages the door frame, and in the handle opened position, the bolt is disengaged from the door frame. The housing includes a trigger pivotally mounted therein, and pivotable between a first position to retain the handle in the closed position and a second position to release the handle to the opened position. A pawl is rotatably mounted to a lock cylinder on the housing and rotatable between locked and unlocked positions to allow the trigger to pivot to the second position and to prevent the trigger from being pivoted to the second position, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6502872
Abstract: A latching assembly that requires three distinct operations must be performed with two hands to allow the handle of the latch assembly to be rotated to unlock a door from a door frame. The assembly provides substantial flexibilities in installation. A base portion having a sleeve which defines an aperture is secured to a door and receives a handle portion with a shaft attached, the shaft extending through the aperture defined by the sleeve. Cooperative rotation restriction portions on the handle and on the base portion restrict the motion of the handle to a limited rotation range. The limited rotation range may be altered by selectively positioning a key guide in one of the cooperative rotation restriction portions. A first release mechanism comprising a trigger portion which extends from the handle and a detent which engages a detent opening in the base portion requires depression of the trigger portion before rotation of the handle to an unlatched position.

Abstract: A rotary latch system where a rotary latch has a trip pawl and a latch jaw which engages a striker. When a T-handle is turned, rotation is translated via a rotating member to an actuating lever. Movement of the lever triggers the pawl which releases the latch jaw. Linkages to other latches can be easily made by connecting to pins upon the rotating member. The latch can then act as a master latch which operates a group of latches. T-handle is spring biased to return to its starting position on release. Abstract: A latch handle (20) includes a grip portion (22) and a housing portion (24) with a spindle (28) extending therefrom to actuate a latch. The handle (20) rotates about an escutcheon (26) and is configured for receiving two or more padlocks. The handle grip portion (22) includes a padlock receiving portion (32) while the escutcheon (26) has a raised portion (34) aligning with the lock receiving portion (32). The escutcheon (26) takes on a second embodiment (126) for rotation in an opposite direction. A defeater device (30) includes a retainer (40) coupled to a plunger member (50). The plunger member (50) slides axially within a bore (70) and rotates relative to an insert (60). The insert includes a cammed surface (62) which receives tabs (52) of the plunger member (50). The plunger member (50) is biased by compression spring (48) and torsion spring (56) to urge the tabs (52) against the cammed surface (62) so that the plunger member (50) moves axially as the retainer (40) is rotated.

Abstract: A locking handle includes a base and a handle rotatably mounted to the base. A well is formed in the handle, and this well communicates with a key opening in a front portion of the handle and a loading opening in a rear portion of the handle. A shaft is mounted in the well via the loading opening to rotate with the handle, and this shaft forms a recess adjacent the key opening. A lock cylinder including a key receiving slot and a locking element is positioned in the recess to rotate in unison with the handle, with the key slot aligned with the key opening. The lock is dimensioned to pass through the loading opening, and the locking element passes outside of the shaft to releasably engage the base and thereby selectably lock the handle against rotation with respect to the base.

Abstract: A lock assembly for locking a door to a frame element, comprising a rotatable locking element and a locking rod connected to the rotatable locking element. Rotation of the locking element in one sense results in the locking rod moving toward a first side of the frame element and rotation in the other sense results in the locking rod moving away from the first side of the frame element. The lock assembly also comprises a pin having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end selectively engages the rotatable locking element at an engagement position so that the locking element is prevented from rotating.
