Patent number: 5063765Abstract: A lock protector (1) for the barrel (17) of a key operated lock (2) which comprises a sleeve (3) to fit over the barrel (17). The sleeve (3) has a rotatable keyway protector (7) located adjacent the keyway (6) of the lock (2), the keyway protector (7) having a slot (10) therein which aligns itself with the keyway (6) for use. The width of the slot (10) together with the distance between the external portion of the slot (10) and the keyway (6) prevents objects other than the correct key shank from being inserted within. The lock protector (1) is also provided with a retaining means (4) to prevent longitudinal movement of the barrel (17) within the sleeve (3) once assembled.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1989Date of Patent: November 12, 1991Inventors: Ross D. Patent number: 4939916Abstract: A lock construction including an outer case having a central opening that receives a cylinder. A plurality of plate-type tumblers are mounted for sliding movement within a passage in the cylinder and the tumblers have aligned slots to receive a key. The side wall of the case is provided with a longitudinal opening or window and a pair of shoulders border opposite sides of the opening. A cover encloses the opening and has a pair of side flanges that removably engage the shoulders of the case. In assembling the lock, the tumblers are inserted into the cylinder through the opening in the case and the cylinder is then rotated to effect engagement of the tumblers with the ward in the case, which is spaced 90.degree. from the opening, and the cover is then snap-fitted onto the case. By removal of the cover, the tumblers can be readily removed from the cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1989Date of Patent: July 10, 1990Assignee: Briggs & Stratton CorporationInventors: Bryan E. Patent number: 4590777Abstract: A key operated doorlock, which may incorporate a deadbolt, has a bolt housing that is mounted on the exterior of the door and is held there by being fastened to a spacer disposed within the door and a mounting plate at the interior side of the door. The main bolt is locked in place with a secondary locking apparatus which may include a barrel lock which operates a bolt which cooperates with a keeper opening in still another bolt. The latter engages a keeper opening that forms part of the housing. A lever system is provided which permits operation of the third bolt when permitted by the state of the second mentioned bolt.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1983Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Inventor: Rafael Sierra

Patent number: 4587816Abstract: A lock assembly of the type mounted on a door or like closure structure and including two lock cylinders each at least partially encased and surrounded by a casing structure each of which has reinforcing means formed thereon so as to prevent collapse or destruction of said casing structure upon receiving an extreme force such as a blow with a hammer or the like. An activating structure is interconnected between a bolt element and each of the lock cylinders such that rotation of either lock cylinder, as by a key, causes at least partial rotation of the activating structure and linear movement of the bolt element into either an extended or retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1983Date of Patent: May 13, 1986Inventor: Fidel Garcia

Patent number: 4530223Abstract: A rim cylinder protection unit includes a single flat thick solid hardened steel guard plate counterbored to receive the rim of the cylinder. The cylinder is secured to the plate and prevented from rotation by cooperation with a cylinder retaining plate attached to the backside of the guard plate. The thick solid steel guard plate has heavy mounting studs welded by hardened material to the plate to extend through the door and these studs are protected by hardened steel sleeves to prevent burglars from chiseling through the studs. A replaceable cover conceals the rugged steel guard plate.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1982Date of Patent: July 23, 1985Assignee: Medeco Security Locks, Inc.Inventor: Roy N. Oliver

Patent number: 4369641Abstract: A timelock device comprising a mounting plate fixed at a location where the device is to be used, and a separate housing provided with a channel defining a passageway for the locking bolt of a door vault lock. The housing carries a locking pin, a timer and a mechanism operable by the timer means for moving the locking pin through the channel. Fastening means are used for detachably connecting the housing to the mounting plate. This device is particularly interesting since it allows for easy and accurate replacing of the operational parts of the device by replacement parts when the operational parts must be serviced.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1980Date of Patent: January 25, 1983Inventor: Erich Wallach

Patent number: 4322958Abstract: In a door lock with spring bolt and dead bolt the lock follower body injection molded from thermoplastic synthetic resin is rotatably mounted in the lock case and resilient in itself without bias and without being influenced by any spring force when by radial movement of the lock follower body a plurality of legs extending therefrom bears against retaining pins and develops spring action by bending. The required spring load on the tumbler is effected by the provision of a free leg at the tumbler which rests unbiased against a stop pin and resiliently bends upon actuation by the key. The mounting of a door fitting at the door panel is facilitated by bores through sleeves provided in the lock case. The inexpensive fabrication permitting at the same time a maximum possible degree of dimensional precision is achieved by making both the lock case and the interior parts from thermoplastic synthetic resin containing no plasticizer. Preferably a polyacetal is used for the interior parts.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1980Date of Patent: April 6, 1982Inventor: Willi Eigemeier

Patent number: 4294089Abstract: A latchbolt rim lock of simple sturdy construction with smooth effective operation and long life. A die cast case forms guides for a bolt having a head and draw plate, and has U-shaped ribs on its rear wall to define seats for springs biasing the bolt forward, in which the springs are held by a rear flange on the back plate. A rearward boss on the front wall forms a retraction stop for the bolt and contains a headed holdback plunger which is manually movable into a hole in the bolt where it is latched by its head to hold the bolt retracted. The draw plate contains a cam opening which defines opposite cam faces which are engaged by a crank pin to retract the bolt. The cam opening also has a central pin-passing throat which allows cammed retraction of the latchbolt relative to the crank pin, and defines supplemental cam faces for moving the bolt to release the holdback plunger.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1978Date of Patent: October 13, 1981Assignee: Best Lock CorporationInventors: Walter E. Patent number: 4139999Abstract: A protective door shield and mounting for a lock, particularly a mortise lock or double lock, including a generally U-shaped plate that engages the swingable edge of the door in the region of the lock and a plurality of interchangeable inserts seated in openings provided in opposing side panels of the plate. Apertures in the inserts accommodate door knob shanks, lock cylinders, thumb turns and the like. The shield permits the substitution of a lock having a different arrangement of apertures without replacing the door, while it strengthens the door and provides a convenient push plate. Since the inserts are interchangeable, a standardized shield may be readily adapted for use with a wide variety of locks. The lock face plate is received by a recess in the shield and can be surrounded by a trim plate, if required.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1978Date of Patent: February 20, 1979Assignee: M.A.G.
