Patent number: 12152322Abstract: Methods for fabrication of articles, in particular knitted articles, using computer-controlled machines. A 3D model of the article is characterized by a 3D polygonal mesh defining a surface of the 3D model. A streamline is drawn on the 3D model, and used to define a set of isolines over the surface described by the 3D polygonal mesh. The isolines are quantized into equidistant points along their respective lengths and a cut line traversing each of the isolines is defined. Courses are defined by connecting quantization points of the isolines based on knitting rules to produce a 2D knitting map containing apexes. Apex attraction may be performed on a first portion of the 2D knitting map by decreasing a spatial distance between respective ones of the apexes. The 2D knitting map is subsequently converted to knitting instructions for a computer-controlled knitting machine.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2023Date of Patent: November 26, 2024Assignee: Global Apparel Partners Inc.Inventors: William Samosir, Lawrence Panozzo, Spencer Sherk, Garrett Li Gerson

Patent number: 8958902Abstract: A method for reducing the occurrence of float threads on the surface of a machine-knitted fabric. Beginning with an initial programmed pattern describing yarn used at each stitch in a knitting pattern, the present method identifies stitches that will create float threads, sorts the identified float threads, giving priority to those float threads that would most limit stretch in a knitted garment, taking into account factors such as float thread length, location in a garment and yarn stretch. Then, in order of the sorted float thread list, the present method assigns additional yarns of the same characteristics as the original yarns to available yarn feeds to minimize the eventual creation of float threads in the knitted fabric. Multiple passes are made through the programmed pattern until no additional floats can be mitigated, or until a predetermined number of passes has been completed.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2014Date of Patent: February 17, 2015Assignee: XOAB LLCInventors: Fredrick Ellis Levine, Neil Seth Levine

Publication number: 20090082898Abstract: The presence or absence of putting round of a yarn is detected according to whether carriers are positioned on a near side or a far side and according to the relationship of connection between loops, and the result is displayed on a monitor. On the monitor, for example, the degree of the deformation of the yarn is changed according to the presence or absence of putting round when the yarn is touched, or a color is changed according to the presence or absence of putting round. The presence or absence of putting round of the yarn can be detected and then displayed to a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2006Publication date: March 26, 2009Applicant: Shima Seiki Manufacturing, Ltd.Inventors: Koichi Terai, Tetsuya Fukuda

Patent number: 7493188Abstract: An object of at least one embodiment of the present invention is to stably feed a yarn by suppressing the effect of inertia in a buffer mechanism provided in a yarn feeding path. In at least one embodiment, a yarn feeder of the weft knitting machine feeds a knitting yarn from either of ends of a needle bed through a yarn feeding member to a knitting needle which carries out knitting motion based on knitting data while reciprocating the yarn feeding member in a longitudinal direction of the needle bed. A buffer rod is provided in the feeding path for the knitting yarn. Before the yarn feeding member starts to feed the knitting yarn to the knitting needle. a yarn feed controller carries out control to feed out the yarn to the buffer rod beforehand in a moving direction in which the feeding path is extended and to pull back the yarn stored in the buffer rod in a moving direction in which the feeding path is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2005Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: Shima Seiki Manufacturing LimitedInventors: Katsuji Minakata, Hirokazu Nishitani, Yoshiyuki Komura

Patent number: 7493245Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a simulation method and a simulation apparatus of the image of a twisted yarn capable of forming an image close to the actuality. When the images of twisted threads (1, 2) are inputted, abstracted models (3, 4) of the twisted yarns having a constant elliptical cross-section are obtained as shown in (b). A projected image (6) of the twisted yarns as shown in (c) is obtained when the models shown in (b) are viewed from the right side and one of two abstracted models (3, 4) located on the left side is concealed. The projected image (6) of the twisted yarns is formed by copying the images of the twisted yarns (1, 2) on to parts corresponding to the abstracted models (3, 4) of respective twisted yarns.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2003Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: Shima Seiki Manufacturing LimitedInventor: Noriyuki Suzuki

Patent number: 7460927Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of manufacturing knitted fabrics, more particularly a method of skillfully transferring a painting artwork onto a knitted fabrics to show the artistic verve of the painting. The manufacturing method includes the steps of: inputting an original drawing into a computer for digitization; editing and designing the digitized original drawing on a knitted fabric; outputting a knitting square plot after a graphic software performs a color processing; introducing graphic file information analyzed and processed by a knitting software to a knitting machine; and operators following a lamp signal of the knitting machine and the knitting square plot to knit to shape a knit piece, so as to complete a fashioned fine-art knitted fabric.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2007Date of Patent: December 2, 2008Assignee: Freeman Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventor: Henry Lai

Publication number: 20080167749Abstract: A decision is made as to whether a fabric to be knitted is tubular or flat, and density is corrected such that knitting-start density is smaller and knitting-end density is larger for a tubular fabric. Knitting-start density is larger and knitting-end density is smaller for a flat fabric. A variable density section is provided between the end part and the central part of the fabric thus correcting the density gradually. Stitches at the end part of the fabric are prevented from becoming uneven as compared with the stitches in the central part without requiring additional hardware.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2005Publication date: July 10, 2008Applicant: SHIMA SEIKI MANUFACTURING, LTD.Inventors: Koji Takeda, Masaaki Yoshimura

Patent number: 7386360Abstract: A movement amount is determined for each of a plurality of stitches on a knitting fabric on the basis of relative positions between a stitch and stitches on the upper, lower, left, and right sides thereof in accordance with predetermined rules, and the stitch is moved. Movement of the stitch is repeated until the position of the stitch is converged. The stitch is then positioned at the converged value of the stitch position and displayed.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2004Date of Patent: June 10, 2008Assignee: Shima Seiki Manufacturing, Ltd.Inventor: Suzuki Noriyuki

Patent number: 7363101Abstract: A knitting machine, a method of working yarn by the knitting machine, and a controller for working yarn by the knitting machine and its program. In the method, a carriage is controllably stopped at a point where a yarn passage length between a yarn working device and a knitting needle obtained by assuming that a buffer length on a tension arm is maximum matches a residual knitting length left before knitting at a point where yarn working is performed. When the carriage is stopped, the buffer length of a first arm is measured, a yarn is delivered from the yarn working device by an amount of difference between the buffer length and the maximum value thereof, and the yarn is worked in synchronism with the application of a tension to the yarn by releasing a second arm. Thus, the yarn can be worked at specified positions.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2005Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: Shima Seiki Manufacturing, Ltd.Inventors: Hirokazu Nishitani, Takeshi Okamuro, Mitsuo Kubo
