Patent number: 9600011Abstract: Various arrangements of controlling a temperature of an enclosure are presented. A setpoint temperature may be received by a thermostat from a user via an energy management device. The setpoint temperature may indicate a desired temperature of the enclosure. The thermostat may be operated in accordance with the setpoint temperature. Energy consumption associated with the thermostat may be monitored. The monitored energy consumption may be compared to an energy usage profile. Based on such a comparison, at least one adjustment to the operation of the thermostat may be determined that will reduce energy consumption associated with the thermostat as compared to the energy consumption associated with operating the thermostat in accordance with the setpoint temperature.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2014Date of Patent: March 21, 2017Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Jason C. Patent number: 9595831Abstract: A network system is provided. The network system includes: at least one component of an energy supply unit supplying energy and an energy management unit managing the energy supply unit. An amount of energy used or energy charge of the energy supply unit is adjustable. An amount of energy used or energy charge when the component is controlled on the basis of information related to at least usage charge may be less than that when the component is controlled not on the basis of the information related to at least usage charge. Also, the energy supply unit has a power saving mode to determine a driving method or a driving time of the energy supply unit on the basis of the information related to energy charge.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2011Date of Patent: March 14, 2017Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Hoonbong Lee, Junho Ahn, Koonseok Lee, Yanghwan Kim, Kangwoon Cheon

Patent number: 9594364Abstract: A method for distributing, during a given time period, electricity flows in a system having at least one production and one consumption element, and provides for measuring the state of charge of each storage element and electrical powers produced and consumed. Initialization steps include defining physical modeling parameters, defining a model, in the form of state representation using the physical parameters, defining optimization parameters, and predefining an optimization problem, over the given time period, for the distribution of the electricity flows using the model. Iterative steps, at successive updating times of the given time period, include measuring a state of charge of each storage element and the electricity production and consumption powers, updating a preview of the behavior of the production and consumption elements for another given time period, defining the formulation of the optimization problem for the other time period, solving the problem, and applying electricity distribution controls.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2013Date of Patent: March 14, 2017Assignee: SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES SASInventors: Caroline Guyon, Patrick Beguery, Mohamed Yacine Lamoudi

Patent number: 9595070Abstract: Apparatus, systems, methods, and related computer program products for managing demand-response programs and events. The systems disclosed include an energy management system in operation with an intelligent, network-connected thermostat located at a structure. The thermostat acquires various information about the residence, such as a thermal retention characteristic of the residence, a capacity of an HVAC associated with the residence to cool or heat the residence, a likelihood of the residence being occupied, a forecasted weather, a real-time weather, and a real-time occupancy. Such information is used to manage the energy consumption of the structure during a demand-response event.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: March 14, 2017Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Yoky Matsuoka, Anthony Michael Fadell, Matthew Lee Roger, David Sloo, Scott A. Patent number: 9588537Abstract: A computer-based electrical power management and allocation system is provided that collects demand for electric power usage and allocates electric power supply in satisfaction thereof. A load control server is used to collect and schedule electrical power start and stop requests according to policies established by either or both of the electric power consumers and electric power suppliers. The energy system collects accumulation messages to reserve electrical power and processes them using the prescribed customer and supplier policies and according to an overall optimization criterion of the energy system. Stop messages are then subsequently issued to cease device operation and the devices are then moved to a reservation pool until the energy system's operational criterion is relaxed or the accumulation messages become obsolete.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2015Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Inventor: Henrik Westergaard
