  • Patent number: 8977371
Abstract: A controller, method and system, for controlling lighting responsive to ambient lighting conditions are described. In particular, disclosed is illumination controller (110) for controlling illumination of a workspace near a display (253). The illumination controller includes a memory device (113) storing a user's preference for illumination of the workspace; a processor (111) accessing the user's preference in the memory device; and an interface (112) between the processor and an electronic sensor (231) located proximate to the display, which collects a reading from the electronic sensor. The processor compares the reading with the user's preference, and sends a command to at least one luminaire (241) to adjust the illumination of the workspace. The electronic sensor can be, for example, a photosensor, an occupancy sensor, an orientation sensor, or a location sensor. In some embodiments, the interface collects the reading from the electronic sensor via a wireless communication link.

  • Patent number: 8965549
Abstract: A method for continuous production planning includes identifying a forbidden transition associated with production of first and second end products. The forbidden transition indicates that a manufacturer should not produce the first and second end products consecutively. The method also includes identifying a bridge product associated with the forbidden transition. The bridge product represents a product that the manufacturer could produce between production of the first and second end products. The method further includes determining a quantity of the bridge product that could be produced by the manufacturer. In addition, the method includes scheduling production of the first and second end products and the bridge product. At least a portion of the quantity of the bridge product is scheduled for production between the production of the first and second end products.

  • Patent number: 8958899
Abstract: Provided is a single-pegging-based product supply chain management system, which manages a supply chain of products with respect to the demand for end products in a continuous process of supplying products to produce other products, represents the supply chain of each product as a node, and converts a multi-pegging process comprising a plurality of nodes in each stage into single-pegging graphs each comprising a single node in each stage by division. The system extracts a certain single-pegging graph from a multi-pegging graph in each stage, excludes the supply amount of the single-pegging graph extracted from the multi-pegging graph, and repeats the process of extracting another single-pegging graph, thus generating a group of single-pegging graphs. According to the system, since the supply chain is represented through only one correlation, it is possible to intuitively show the supply planning to allow a user to easily establish production planning and increase its accuracy.

Abstract: An emitter for an LED-based lighting device has multiple groups of LEDs that are independently addressable, allowing the emitter to be tuned to a desired color bin (e.g., a specific white color) by adjusting the relative current supplied to different groups. The LED dies for the groups and a phosphor chip for each LED die are individually selected such that each LED-die/phosphor-chip combination produces light in a desired source region associated with the group to which the LED belongs. Robotic pick-and-place systems can be used to automate assembly of the emitters by selecting LED dies from a bin based on based on spectral characteristics and phosphor chips from a number of distinct phosphor chip types.

  • Patent number: 8594821
Abstract: A system, a method and a computer program product for identifying incompatible manufacturing tools. The system receives measurements of products that were subject to a manufacturing process involving a plurality of manufacturing tools. The measurements pertain to a performance characteristic of each product. The system evaluates whether each manufacturing tool implemented in a sequential manufacturing process individually performs normally based on the received measurements. In response to evaluating each manufacturing tool implemented in said manufacturing process individually performs normally, the system evaluates whether a first combination of the manufacturing tools together in sequential manufacturing process perform normally based on the received measurements.

  • Patent number: 8583433
Abstract: A system and method for efficiently transcribing verbal messages to text is provided. Verbal messages are received and at least one of the verbal messages is divided into segments. Automatically recognized text is determined for each of the segments by performing speech recognition and a confidence rating is assigned to the automatically recognized text for each segment. A threshold is applied to the confidence ratings and those segments with confidence ratings that fall below the threshold are identified. The segments that fall below the threshold are assigned to one or more human agents starting with those segments that have the lowest confidence ratings. Transcription from the human agents is received for the segments assigned to that agent. The transcription is assembled with the automatically recognized text of the segments not assigned to the human agents as a text message for the at least one verbal message.

  • Patent number: 8560108
Abstract: Even when a module constituting a multi-module becomes an unavailable module, transfer of substrates can be promptly performed, while restricting generation of inferior products. When a destination module of a multi-module becomes unavailable before a substrate is transferred to the destination module, a destination of the substrate is changed to a module to which a substrate subsequent to the substrate is to be loaded. Upon generation of an unavailable module, before the transfer unit accesses the module on an upstream end of the transfer cycle, the transfer cycle proceeds until a precedent substrate becomes ready to be unloaded from the changed destination module. Alternatively, upon generation of an unavailable module, when the transfer unit is located on an upstream side of the unavailable module in the transfer cycle, the transfer operation of the transfer unit is made standby until a precedent substrate becomes ready to be unloaded in the changed destination module.

The MES system is provided with a catalogue of a tool model, the catalogue of the tool model contains tool entities and tool methods on the tool entities. The tool entities contain engineering-time tool entities and run-time tool entities and the tool methods contain engineering-time tool methods and run-time tool methods. At engineering time or at run time, via a tool manager, the tool model catalogue is exposed and information on the tool model data is stored in a database. At engineering time, the specific engineering-time tool entities are defined by invoking engineering-time tool methods. At run time the specific tool entities are instantiated into run-time tool objects and the manufacturing process is controlled relative to physical plant tools by invoking the run-time tool methods on the run-time tool objects.

Abstract: First inter-organizational tracking & tracing systems facilitate timely identification and handling of disruptions along the supply chain. However, these systems typically operate at supply chain management (SCM) and enterprise resource planning system (ERP) level and therefore lack knowledge and control over production processes. The idea is to bridge the gap between logistics and production IT by proposing a novel architecture for coupling the manufacturing operations as defined in IEC 62264 with an EPCIS-compliant real-time tracking & tracing system. The system leverages logic-based complex event processing for detecting critical disruptions in the supply chain and initiates rescheduling of production. It is shown that in the presence of unexpected events the rescheduling algorithm minimizes delays and inventory costs while avoiding <<nervous schedules>> caused by frequent changes.
