  • Patent number: 9702716
Abstract: A computing device may execute a routing application to perform operations including identifying a contextual parameter indicative of a quality preference for routing over segments of geographic mapping data, weighing the segments of geographic mapping data according to traffic score information indicative of the presence of the contextual parameter over the respective segments determined based at least in part on vehicle diagnostic data, and determining a suggested route for a vehicle from a current location to a destination location over the weighed segments of geographic mapping data based on the contextual parameter. The device may be further configured to receive a route request including the destination location for the vehicle; and display the route for the vehicle on a map including indications of the quality of the segments along the suggested route. To improve the routing, learning heuristics identify what diagnostic data variables correlate with presence of which contextual parameters.

  • Patent number: 9689689
Abstract: A navigation device is provided, which includes a retrieval section that retrieves a route to a destination, and a storage device that stores a traveled road as a recognized road and stores an extension road as a recognized road. The traveled road is a road actually traveled by a vehicle. The extension road is a road continuous with the traveled road. The retrieval section includes a selection section. When multiple routes each to the destination are retrieved, the selection section selects a route from among the multiple routes based on a distance of an unrecognized road, a travel time taken to travel the unrecognized road, or a connection condition of the unrecognized road. The unrecognized road is a road other than the recognized road stored in the storage device.

  • Patent number: 9672740
Abstract: A method and system that provides detouring services to passengers and transportation operators. Transportation operators send data indicating prior uses of the operator to the passengers' mobile device and the system on the mobile device compiles the data to form travel patterns of the passenger. The travel patterns are assigned a probability indicating the frequency the travel pattern is used by the passenger. When a disruption of a service of an operator occurs, a detouring service provides detour suggestions to the passengers and travel demand changes to the operators. In another approach, an in-station display displays suggested detour routes based on the top destinations of stranded passengers and the passenger's mobile phones are not used to display or perform detouring.

Abstract: A communication device has an information transmission setting process that obtains state information indicative of a self-vehicle state, and determines whether the state information satisfies a transmission stop condition for stopping a transmission of position information. Further, based on the obtained state information, the process determines whether the self-vehicle is in an abnormal state indicative of an abnormality of the self-vehicle. Then, if the preset transmission stop condition is satisfied and the abnormal state is not detected, the process stops the transmission of the position information. If the preset transmission stop condition is satisfied and the abnormal state is already detected, the process allows a periodic transmission of the position information.

Abstract: A map preparation apparatus includes a position information acquisition section, an input information acquisition section, and a selection section. The position information acquisition section acquires position information of a user who is moving. The input information acquisition section acquires input information including a date and time when the user starts moving and a date and time when the user finishes moving. The selection section selects map information from preregistered map information on the basis of the position information acquired by the position information acquisition section and on the basis of the input information acquired by the input information acquisition section. The selected map information includes a route in a ratio equal to or larger than a predetermined ratio. The route is taken from the date and time when the user starts moving to the date and time when the user finishes moving.

  • Patent number: 8862385
Abstract: Providing machine-generated travel directions with customized augmentations to enhance the navigation process. To provide machine-generated travel directions, a user submitted starting location, destination location, and meta-data associated with the user is used to generate a route between the starting location and destination location Annotations to the route are derived based on the meta-data associated with the user or characteristics associated with the route. The annotations are then ranked according to a determined priority. The route generated between the starting location and the destination location, and augmented with the ranked annotations, is displayed to the user.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods, computer software products, server and system for mapping road conditions, especially friction. In the method according to the invention the acceleration of the vehicle is measured by means of an acceleration sensor, the position of the vehicle is monitored by means of positioning means and the measured acceleration value is combined with the position data of the measurement location. The method compares whether the measured position-specific acceleration value exceeds the value on the server for the said area and in case the value is exceeded, a measured position-specific acceleration value is sent to the server.

  • Patent number: 8799461
Abstract: When individual persons or vehicles move through a transportation network, they are likely to be both actively and passively creating information that reflects their location and current behavior. In this patent, we propose a system that makes complete use of this information. First, through a broad web of sensors, our system collects and stores the full range of information generated by travelers. Next, through the use of previously-stored data and active computational analysis, our system deduces the identity of individual travelers. Finally, using advanced data-mining technology, our system selects useful information and transmits it back to the individual, as well as to third-party users; in short, it forms the backbone for a variety of useful location-related end-user applications.

Abstract: A driving characteristics detector includes: a driving information obtaining element for obtaining driving information, which relates to a driving condition of a vehicle; and a driving characteristics determining element for determining driving characteristics of a driver of the vehicle based on the driving information. The driving information includes vehicle speed relating information, which relates to at least one of a vehicle speed, acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle. A driving unit section is defined as a section from the vehicle starts to go until the vehicle stops. The driving characteristics determining element determines the driving characteristics based on the vehicle speed relating information in each driving unit section.

Abstract: A method and system for determining energy efficient routes is described. Map data represents road segments. Energy consumption data is obtained while a vehicle travels on a first road segment. Energy consumption data associated with the first road segment can be used to predict the expected energy consumption when traveling on a second road segment that has similar physical attributes to those of the first road segment. The predicted energy consumption data may be used to determine whether the second road segment is part of a most energy efficient route.
