Including Route Searching Or Determining Patents (Class 701/410)
  • Patent number: 11041734
Abstract: This disclosure is generally directed to systems and methods for optimizing a travel route of a hybrid-electric vehicle inside an emissions-free zone. In one exemplary embodiment, a travel route optimization system can be used to determine a charge level of a battery in the hybrid-electric vehicle and to locate charging stations inside and/or outside the emissions-free zone. The charge level provides an indication of a distance that the hybrid-electric vehicle can travel before a gasoline engine is started. The system can use factors such as the location of the charging stations and the charge level of the battery to generate an optimized travel route for the hybrid-electric vehicle that eliminates starting of the gasoline engine inside the emissions-free zone. The optimized travel route may be updated in real-time so as to allow recharging of the battery on an as-needed basis at a charging station inside or outside the emissions-free zone.

Abstract: Techniques are discussed for using multi-resolution maps, for example, for localizing a vehicle. Map data of an environment can be represented by discrete map tiles. In some cases, a set of map tiles can be precomputed as contributing to localizing the vehicle in the environment, and accordingly, the set of map tiles can be loaded into memory when the vehicle is at a particular location in the environment. Further, a level of detail represented by the map tiles can be based at least in part on a distance between a location associated with the vehicle and a location associated with a respective region in the environment. The level of detail can also be based on a speed of the vehicle in the environment. The vehicle can determine its location in the environment based on the map tiles and/or the vehicle can generate a trajectory based on the map tiles.

  • Patent number: 10845820
Abstract: A system generates a high definition map for an autonomous vehicle to travel from a source location to a destination location. The system determines a low resolution route and receives high definition map data for a set of geographical regions overlaying the low resolution route. The system uses lane elements within the geographical regions to form a set of potential partial routes. The system calculates the error between the potential partial route and the low resolution route and removes potential partial routes with errors above the threshold. Once completed, the system selects a final route and sends signals to the controls of the autonomous vehicle to follow the final route. The system determines whether surface areas adjacent to a lane that are not part of the road are safe for the vehicle to drive in case of emergency. The system stores information describing navigable surface areas with representations of lanes.

In some examples, a system includes one or more computers configured to schedule jobs based on travel from a geographic origin to a respective geographic job location for each job. The system also includes a one-to-many path searcher implemented on the one or more computers. The one-to-many path searcher searches for paths along edges of a graph from an origin node to destination nodes by traversing intermediate nodes between the origin node and the destination nodes using travel costs, including determining heuristic travel costs based on a geographic distance between an intermediate geographic location corresponding to the intermediate node and a boundary that initially surrounds the geographic job locations.

  • Patent number: 10724870
Abstract: The present invention combines the geographical coverage possible with fixed, pre-defined route segment costs (e.g. the legal speed limit) with, wherever possible, richer time dependent costs. A user of, for example, a portable navigation device, can therefore continue route planning as before to virtually any destination in a country covered by the stored map database, but wherever possible, can also use traffic data with time-dependent costs, so that the effect of congestion with any time predictability can be accurately taken into account as an automatic, background process. It leaves the user to simply carry on driving, following the guidance offered by the navigation device, without needing to be concerned about congestion that exists now, and whether it will impact his journey.

Abstract: To make it possible to execute processing taking into account the fact that a plurality of lanes are provided in a road. An automatic driving support device 500 includes a map database 541 including lane information concerning lanes of a road, a position specifying section 173 that specifies a present position of a vehicle, and a recommended-lane selecting section 171 that calculates, on the basis of the lane information, a recommendation degree of each of lanes of a road on which the vehicle is traveling and selects, on the basis of the calculated recommendation degree, a lane in which the vehicle travels. Therefore, it is possible to select a recommended lane taking into account the fact that a plurality of lanes are provided in a road.

In these implementations, a reference signal is obtained, where the reference signal includes time series data collected by at least one environment sensor along a reference path from a start point to a destination. Then, a navigation trace is created for the reference path based on the obtained reference signal, where magnitudes at locations of the navigation trace reflect measurements collected by the at least one environment sensor at respective time points of the reference signal. In accordance with implementations of the subject matter described herein, a new approach for generating a navigation instruction from a navigation trace.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating return journey notifications include obtaining a request for navigational directions to a target destination. An outbound journey route from an initial location to the target destination can be determined, wherein the outbound journey route includes an estimated outbound journey time. A return journey route from the target destination to a return destination can be determined, wherein the return journey route includes an estimated return journey time. The outbound journey route and/or return journey route can be determined at least in part from one or more of current traffic conditions or historical traffic conditions. One or more notifications regarding the return journey route can be generated when comparing the estimated outbound journey time to the estimated return journey time results in a determination that one or more predetermined criteria are met.

  • Patent number: 10638264
Abstract: Embodiments provide techniques, including systems and methods, for determining an estimated target pickup location for a corresponding transport request at a particular location, such as associated with a particular geohash. A requestor may send a request that is associated with a location that does not reflect the requestor's intent regarding where they would like to be met by the provider (i.e., “picked up”). GPS inaccuracies may cause the request location to inaccurately indicate where the requestor will be; for example, the request location may be inside a building while the requestor is waiting on a curb around a far side of the building. The target pickup location allows for a requestor and a provider to meet more efficiently, reducing delay for the provider and improving the efficiency of the system by preventing provider system resources from being taken from other service areas and decreasing provider downtime upon matching.
