Visual Guidance Having Enhanced Realism (e.g., 3 Dimensional, Etc.) Patents (Class 701/436)
  • Patent number: 10235804
Abstract: A display system, method, and computer readable storage to provide a visual representation of an environment. A marker is placed by a user tagging a physical location in the environment. When the user looks at the environment using different viewpoints, the visual representation can automatically be adjusted via a programmed processing unit so that the marker would appear in the same physical location in the window each time the viewpoint is changed. For example, if the marker is placed to tag a real world boat in a visual representation, changing the viewpoint would maintain the marker in the same position in the visual representation in the window. By changing viewpoints, an object marked by a marker would remain in the same position in the window while other aspects of the visual representation would automatically change including zoom, rotation, pan, to accommodate the static position of the marker.

  • Patent number: 8781732
Abstract: An apparatus for recognizing a position of a moving object includes a sensor information collector to collect sensor information associated with movement of the moving object, a camera to capture a front image based on the movement of the moving object, and a GPS receiver configured to receive a GPS position of the moving object. Further, the apparatus includes a location recognizer to display N number of particles, each of which indicates a candidate position of the moving object, in a certain region about a GPS location of the moving object on a map. The location recognizer then updates a location of the particles based on the movement of the moving object, and progressively reduces number of particles on the basis of accuracy of the position-updated particles, thereby recognizing the position of the moving object.

  • Patent number: 8762036
Abstract: Future travel times along links are predicted using training and prediction phases. During training, seasonal intervals, a seasonal component of the training inflows are learned. The seasonal component is subtracted from the training inflows to obtain training deviations from the training inflows to yield statistics, which along with the seasonal components form a model of traffic flow on the link. During prediction, current travel times on the link are collected for current seasonal intervals to determine current inflows. A most recent travel time is subtracted from a most recent inflow to obtain a current deviation. For a future time, a predicted deviation is estimated using the statistics. The seasonal component is added to the predicted deviation to obtain a predicted inflow from which the future travel time is predicted.

Abstract: A method and system for creating geometry for ADAS are described. Link chains, which are a sequence of segments, are created. The link chains are used to create 2D splines. The link chains, the 2D splines, and height data are used to create 3D splines. The 3D splines and possibly the 2D splines are converted to Bezier curves, which can be used to create a 2D polyline. ADAS applications can use the Bezier curves and the 2D polylines to provide ADAS functions.

  • Patent number: 8756005
Abstract: A system for providing an externally visible signal regarding a navigational instruction at a vehicle includes a navigation system, a navigation message sender, a navigation message receiver, and a display system. The navigation system generates and outputs turn-by-turn navigational directions within the vehicle to assist a driver of the vehicle in reaching a given destination location. The navigation message sender receives the turn-by-turn navigational directions and transmits them to the navigation message receiver. The navigation message receiver provides a navigational message to the display system for display in a manner visible outside the vehicle.

Abstract: Present novel and non-trivial system, device, and method for generating location information presented to a pilot are disclosed. A processing unit is configured to receive manual input data representative of one or more selected image location(s) on a first image data set; determine a selected geographic location for each selected image location; and update the second image data set to include location pointer data. As embodied herein, first and second images represented in the first and second image data sets, respectively, could be displayed simultaneously on the same display unit or separately on different display units. Also, the first image and second image could correspond to an egocentric view and a plan view, respectively, or vice-versa. Additionally, the first image data set and/or second image data set could be updated include first and/or second location pointer data, respectively.

Abstract: The invention relates to system and method for generating a 3-dimensional representation of a tunnel. Road network data is provided having a plurality of road segments, at least one road segment being a tunnel road segment, including the information that said at least one road segment is a road segment located in a tunnel. The tunnel segment in the road network is identified, providing a geographical elevation map including elevation data of the geographical region in which the tunnel road segment is located, providing predefined patterns representing predefined parts of a 3-dimensional tunnel body, generating the 3-dimensional representation of the tunnel based on the tunnel road segment, the elevation map and the predefined patterns, and storing the 3-dimensional representation of the tunnel in connection with the road network as a 3-dimensional object which is located at the geographical position of the tunnel road segment.

  • Patent number: 8694246
Abstract: Embodiment methods and systems enable personal navigation devices to warn drivers during turn-by-turn navigation directions when they are approaching a difficult turn. Personal navigation devices may report to a server when a turn is missed during turn-by-turn directions, including identifying the turn and situation information. The server may aggregate missed turn reports from many personal navigation devices to generate a difficult turn database. Personal navigation devices may access the difficult turn database when generating turn-by-turn directions to identify turns requiring enhanced directions. The difficult turn database may be stored on personal navigation devices, and/or may be maintained on the server. Personal navigation devices may be configured to recognize when turns are intentionally missed, and only report missed turns when they determined that the turn was missed unintentionally.

  • Patent number: 8660795
Abstract: A navigation apparatus has a road learning function. When a new road is learned and a new road link is connected to one of a map road link present in a ready-made map data and a previously-learned road link, the navigation apparatus designates the one of the map road link and the learned road link as a base link and generates a supplement link that extends along the base link from a base-link-side end point of the new road link to an end point of the base link. The navigation apparatus specifies an entrance link and an exit link connected to a process target point on the guidance route, and determines content of the route guidance by using the base link corresponding to the supplement link when the entrance link or the exit link is the supplement link.
