  • Patent number: 11851062
Abstract: A method includes identifying, based on grade data of a route of an autonomous vehicle (AV), a segment of the route that has a grade value that meets a threshold grade value. Responsive to identifying the segment, the method further includes generating, based on the grade data and physical vehicle data of the AV, driving constraint data for the segment of the route. The method further includes causing a routing module of the AV to generate, based on the driving constraint data for the segment of the route, short time horizon routing data corresponding to a portion of the segment. The AV is to travel the portion of the segment of the route based on the short time horizon routing data.

  • Patent number: 11704998
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to using anomaly data detected in traffic data to efficiently initiate remote assistance sessions. In particular, a computing system can receive, from a computing device associated with a human-driven vehicle, travel data for the human-driven vehicle. The computer system can identify a navigation anomaly associated with the human-driven vehicle based on the travel data. The computer system can generate, based on the identified navigation anomaly, an anomaly entry for storage in an anomaly database, the anomaly entry comprising geofence data describing a geographic area associated with the navigation anomaly. The computer system can determine, based on location data received from an autonomous vehicle and the geofence data, that the autonomous vehicle is entering the geographic area associated with the navigation anomaly. The computer system can initiate a remote assistance session with the autonomous vehicle.

Abstract: To support the independence and mobility of blind pedestrians, the present inventors devised, among other things, free systems, methods, and software for providing narrative blind-ready wayfinding information. One exemplary system receives user input identifying a starting landmark and ending landmark in a particular selected geographic region, such as a city, university campus, government building, shopping mall, or airport. The system then searches a database for the corresponding narrative wayfinding instructions, and outputs them in the form of text or audio to guide a blind pedestrian from the starting landmark to the ending landmark. In the exemplary system, blind users select the geographic region as well as the starting and ending landmark from a voice-driven telephonic menu system and receive audible wayfinding instruction via mobile telephone. In some embodiments, the system also provides access to voice-driven restaurant menus.

Abstract: A method for producing an itinerary may include receiving a request for an itinerary from a remote device. The request includes points of interest to be included in the itinerary and a time or time range. The method includes communicating with remote systems to obtain information related to the points of interest. An itinerary is produced that includes the points of interest and is organized based on the information and the time. A suggested transit route is provided having directions to the points of interest. The itinerary may be provided to the remote device. A subsequent itinerary may be produced based on the information. Data from a plurality of itineraries is aggregated and includes a date of a visit, a time of the visit, or an estimated number of people for the visit. A portion of the data may be provided to a point of interest.

Abstract: When a navigation device receives an input of speech from a user, it transmits data of inputted speech to a server and receives a speech recognition result. If a guide route includes a communication impossible area, the navigation device obtains terminal-use speech recognition data necessary for the navigation device to perform speech recognition from the server before reaching the communication impossible area. Thus, even if the speech is inputted by the user while traveling the communication impossible area, the navigation device can perform the speech recognition by itself by using the terminal-use speech recognition data.

Abstract: A system and method synthesizing images of a locale to generate a composite image that provide a panoramic view of the locale. A video camera moves along a street recording images of objects along the street. A GPS receiver and inertial navigation system provide the position of the camera as the images are being recorded. The images are indexed with the position data provided by the GPS receiver and inertial navigation system. The composite image is created on a column-by-column basis by determining which of the acquired images contains the desired pixel column, extracting the pixels associated with the column, and stacking the columns side by side. The composite images are stored in an image database and associated with a street name and number range of the street being depicted in the image. The image database covers a substantial amount of a geographic area allowing a user to visually navigate the area from a user terminal.
