  • Patent number: 10361681
Abstract: Differing from the fact that the amount of register units and adder units arranged in conventional moving average filter must be increased for processing more number of reference input signals, the present invention particularly discloses a moving average low-pass filtering device. The moving average low-pass filtering device comprises a register unit and a filtering and processing unit, and is able to use identical circuit architecture to successfully treat reference input signals with a filtering process even if the number of the reference input signals is alternatively increased. Moreover, after finishing a verification experiment by a simulator, simulation results have proved that, this novel moving average low-pass filtering device still can use identical circuit architecture to complete the filtering process under nearly the same calculation efficiency even though the number of the reference input signals is alternatively increased.

Abstract: Optical metrology is used to calibrate the plane-of-incidence (POI) azimuth error by determining and correcting an azimuth angle offset. The azimuth angle offset may be determined by measuring at least a partial Mueller matrix from a calibration grating on a sample held on a stage for a plurality of POI azimuth angles. An axis of symmetry is determined for a curve describing a value of a Mueller matrix element with respect to POI azimuth angle, for each desired wavelength and each desired Mueller matrix element. • Patent number: 8676543
Abstract: Mechanical oscillators employ the use of resonance parameters, frequency and the quality factor Q, for the measurement of corrosion or deposition. The ability of a mechanical oscillator to measure small amounts of metal loss or deposition is not only dependent upon the mechanical design but is limited by the precision in determining the resonance frequency and Q. Methods for measuring these resonance parameters with a high precision in the presence of noise are provided. The increased degree of precision improves the utility of these devices as sensitive probes for corrosion and deposition (fouling) measurement. The increased degree of precision is enabled in part by employing curve fitting consistent with modeling the mechanical oscillator as a simple harmonic oscillator. This curve fitting procedure, combined with averaging and utilizing signal processing parameters to mitigate noise effects, adds precision in measuring resonance parameters.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a disk protrusion detection/flatness measurement circuit and a disk glide tester, in which protrusion detection and average value calculation can be performed without switching signal processing circuits of two systems, one for the protrusion detection of a disk and the other for the average value calculation with respect to a track or a sector of the disk. This also makes it possible to reduce the size of the measurement circuit. In the protrusion detection/flatness measurement circuit, a signal from a protrusion detection sensor is amplified and converted from an analog signal to a digital signal. The signal passes through a band-pass filter to obtain a digital signal with a predetermined bandwidth. Then, peak detection and average value calculation processes are applied in parallel to the obtained digital signal. Thus, pass/fail decision of the disk can be made based on the detected peak and average values.

The process includes the steps of: (a) obtaining a set of data points representing estimates of a given parameter; (b) using a computer to process said data points with an unsupervised clustering algorithm to select data points for use in making a preferred estimate of the given parameter; and (c) using the selected data points to make a preferred estimate of the given parameter.

  • Patent number: 8165850
Abstract: A system for measuring signals received by an apparatus. An antenna system in the apparatus may include two or more antennas. A receiver in the apparatus may be configured to measure signal response induced in the antenna system in accordance with a pattern. After the signal response for the antenna system is measured at least once, the pattern may be altered and the signal response for the antenna system may be measured again in accordance with the altered pattern. The signal response in the antenna system measured for the pattern may then be averaged with the signal response in the antenna system measured for the altered pattern, and the average may be utilized as input to, for example, a directional determination process.

  • Patent number: 8165843
Abstract: Time-course data that has been obtained by measuring, in time series, a change in the density of a sample material by a color reaction thereof is input. A regression curve generation unit generates a regression curve that approximates the time-course data. A standard deviation obtainment unit obtains the value of a standard deviation representing the distribution of the approximation error of the regression curve with respect to the time-course data. A standard deviation comparison judgment unit compares the value of the standard deviation and a predetermined threshold value that is stored in a standard deviation storage unit with each other. When the value of the standard deviation is greater than the threshold value, the standard deviation comparison judgment unit judges that a position shift of the sample material with respect to a sample table is present and outputs the result of the judgment.

  • Patent number: 8082103
Abstract: Hourly CO2 concentration, amount of solar radiation, and plant distribution information are calculated through observation from predetermined satellites. A concentration of CO2 absorbed by plant-chlorophyll per each time unit is calculated. By adding up the CO2 concentration on the earth and the concentration of CO2 absorbed by the plant-chlorophyll, a CO2 concentration obtained provided that no plant-chlorophyll exist is calculated for a certain period. Thereafter, a mean concentration of CO2 that is absorbed according to changes in the distribution of plant-chlorophyll is calculated on the basis of a monthly mean solar radiation amount and plant-chlorophyll distribution information. By subtracting the CO2 concentration, which is a mean, from the total CO2 concentration, a CO2 concentration, which is a normal, is calculated.

  • Patent number: 8046181
Abstract: An apparatus estimates SOH of a battery based on a battery voltage variation pattern. A data storing unit obtains and stores battery voltage, current and temperature data from sensors, at each SOH estimation. A first SOC estimating unit estimates first SOC by current integration using the battery current data. A second SOC estimating unit estimates open-circuit voltage from the voltage variation pattern, and calculates and stores second SOC corresponding to the open-circuit voltage and temperature using correlations between the open-circuit voltage/temperature and SOC. A weighted mean convergence calculating unit calculates and stores convergence value for weighted mean value of ratio of the second SOC variation to the first SOC variation. A SOH estimating unit estimates capacity corresponding to the weighted mean convergence value using correlation between the weighted mean convergence value and the capacity, estimates relative ratio of the estimated capacity to an initial capacity, and stores it as SOH.

  • Patent number: 7860689
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a computer programme for detecting the stationary state of a roller bearing, comprising z rolling bodies, where z is a whole number, preferably an even number, to which a sensor arrangement is fixed, delivering a sinusoidal signal, dependent on the rotational position of the bearing on the rotation of the roller bearing. Said sinusoidal signal is sampled, whereupon sampled values are determined. According to the invention, a first average value (MW1) of the sampled values of a first time interval (J1) is determined (S120), whereupon the corresponding average value (MW2, MW3) of other time intervals (J2, J3) is determined (S132).

  • Patent number: 7844414
Abstract: A method of calibrating an individual sensor of a particular sensor type whose output varies non-linearly with at least one measured quantity and at least one operating condition. The first step includes producing a set of calibration curves for each sample sensor of the particular sensor type. The resulting sets of calibration curves are then averaged and the results used to produce a generic calibration surface for the particular sensor type showing its variation. Individual calibration measurements are then taken for a number of different values of the measured quantity at a small number of discrete values. The individual calibration readings are then used to map the generic calibration surface to the individual calibration measurements of the individual sensor.
