In some implementation, these detector arrays measure both muon scattering and absorption to enable imaging and characterizing not only the very high-Z fuel materials, but also other materials in the reactor, thereby obtaining a more complete picture of reactor status. When applied to damaged reactors, the disclosed proposed techniques, systems, and devices, through the process of providing an image, can reveal the presence (or absence) of damage to fuel rod assemblies or puddles of molten fuel at the bottom of the containment vessel, thus providing crucial information to guide decisions about remedial actions.

    Abstract: A method for determining a deviation value of a health parameter, in particular a capacity or efficiency parameter, of at least one component of a gas turbine. A pressure value and temperature value at a measuring point of the component is measured. A corrected pressure value is determined based on a predetermined pressure correction factor of the component. A corrected temperature value is determined based on a predetermined temperature correction factor of the component. An estimated actual value of the health parameter of the component is determined based on the corrected pressure value, the corrected temperature value and measured shaft speed. A nominal value of the health parameter of the component which is predicted based on at least one predetermined input parameter is determined. Finally, a deviation value of a health parameter is determined by comparing the estimated actual value and the nominal value.

Sensor data from instrumentation coupled to the gas turbine engine are processed, using a physics-based component level aero-thermal model, to calculate a plurality of engine parameters at a plurality of non-instrumented locations within the gas turbine engine. The plurality of engine parameters are processed to detect when a fault exists and, when a fault does exist, an image is rendered that indicates at least a mostly likely cause for the fault and one or more corrective actions that can be taken to correct the fault. The model is also used to generate projections of engine performance at one or more selected test conditions, and to prognosticate, based on the projections, as to whether the gas turbine engine will actually pass at the one or more selected test conditions.
