Abstract: The present invention provides a seamless entry system that comprises a universal session manager. Users connect to the host service provider with a unique username and password. Then, through a series of data exchanges between the universal session manager, a validation database, and the remote service module, the customer may be transparently logged into remote service providers. Internet banking customers utilize a browser system to connect to a host server providing a range of banking services supported by a remote or distinct server. According to the method, the customer first enters a username and password to gain access to the host service provider. The universal session manager transmits data required for login to the remote service provider. The user is thus able to utilize the remote services with his/her web browser system without having entered a username or password particular to the remote service.

Abstract: A method for facilitating the delivery of electronic funds and conveying an explanation of benefits to a service provider is described herein. A claim for payment by a service provider (such as a physician's office) is adjudicated by a third party administrator. An electronic funds transfer (EFT) is generated under a transaction set specification that encodes both payment information as well as an explanation of benefits (EOB). The EOB indicates which charges were approved and/or which were denied. The EOB data is extracted from the EFT and an image is generated containing the text of the EOB. The image is created in a format that is compatible with the online delivery of posted-paper checks. When the service provider logs into its bank to reconcile charges the EFT transaction is noted and the provider clicks on the “view check” link to obtain the EOB information.

  • Patent number: 8600893
Abstract: As banking transactions are processed by a bank teller, all of the relevant information with respect to the transaction (e.g., dollar amount) is captured in an electronic file. Each of the electronic files from the various branches of the bank are forwarded to a central back office processing center where the electronic files are combined into a single Transaction Repository. At the end of the branch day, all of the paper associated with the transactions is forwarded from the branches to the back office processing center. The paper transactions are imaged in the conventional manner and the Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) data is read from the paper. The present invention then automatically correlates the images and MICR data captured from the paper with the complete transaction record contained in the Transaction Repository. Most of the conventional back office processing can now be performed without the need to perform character recognition and without the need for excess human intervention.

  • Patent number: 8589295
Abstract: A financial institution computer maintains a list of account identifiers for accounts enrolled in a prioritized payment program including pre-authorization of certain payment requests by select creditors. The computer estimates a value of prioritized payments and authorizes a sweep payment to the customer account from a stand-in account at a payroll processor, so that the estimated value is held back in the stand-in account. The financial institution computer then receives an incoming ACH file, including an automatic deposit destined for the customer account. The computer generates an outgoing ACH file with both an entry for an automatic deposit destined for the customer account and an entry for a pre-authorized prioritized payment to a select creditor, so that the automatic deposit is credited and relatively instantaneously any prioritized payment is debited from the customer account. The customer account can be, for example, a demand deposit account or a prepaid card account.

Missed check-ins are identified using transaction data resulting from an activity of the member at a check-in location, e.g., when the member purchased an item from a merchant at a check-in location or made a call from the location. Transaction data is sent from a computer that stores the data to the social network computer that manages check-ins. Transaction location is compared with check-in locations to determine whether the member should receive credit for the missed check-in, which may count towards rewards or benefits of the social network even though the member is not currently at the check-in location since the missed check-in is validated by a trusted source of transaction data.

Abstract: A notification about an address change request to a customer may be generated by processing account information. An address change request for an account is received, and account information is compared to threshold information. If balance information exceeds threshold limits, the account holder is notified at the address or telephone number of record. Different threshold limits may be applied to different types of accounts. When the new address for a change request matches on-line banking information or information from a national change of address (NCOA) database, the change request may be excluded from further processing so that a notification is not generated. Only one notification to the account holder may be generated when the account holder has more than one account with a financial institution. Processing parameters may be adjusted based on exclusions and inclusions by modifying threshold limits from previously determined notifications.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatic savings upon event detection. An electronic transfer of funds from one financial account to another financial account is performed in response to selection of a user interface element to a computer software program. For example, a user may initiate the transfer of a fixed, relatively small amount from a checking account to a savings account by selecting a user interface element configured to initiate a funds transfer transaction. Each time the user selects the user interface element, a new funds transfer transaction is generated and transmitted to a financial institution's computer system(s) via a network. Thus, for example, a user may quickly and easily transfer relatively small, fixed amounts of funds from checking into savings without changing the current context of the computer software program.

  • Patent number: 8548886
Abstract: A system that facilitates opening of a bank account by banking personnel for a customer. The account opening system includes an automatic rate determination feature that uses customer information, account information and other criteria to determine an account interest rate. The rate determination system may also mediate rate negotiation between a personal banker and the customer by limiting the increase in rate awarded by the personal banker. An auditing system assigns numbers to a series of profiles, each describing a request to open an account. Profiles to be audited are determined by generating random numbers that fall within the range of assigned profile numbers. Random number generation is repeated until a threshold percentage of profiles have been selected for auditing. The account opening system includes a system for tracking the progress of the account application and for organizing information recorded by the personal banker during interactions with the customer.

Abstract: Coin types of coins with which a user is permitted to pay for a transaction are divided into first and second groups. The coin types of the second group are of lower value than those of the first group. A difference in which a total amount of the transaction is a minuend is determined. Where the difference is positive and can only be exactly paid for by the user using just coins of the coin types of the second group, and where a community escrow has a current balance greater than the difference, the following is performed. In response to the user indicating that the difference should be paid for from the community escrow, the transaction is electronically credited from the community escrow by an amount equal to the difference, and the difference is electronically debited from the community escrow.
