Abstract: Many biological data analysis problems require matching data points from different data sets. For example, high-throughput protein expression liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC/MS) protocols developed generate 2-dimensional feature sets that require matching on a point-by-point basis. In these protocols, it can be useful to perform all data collection sequentially and analyze the data subsequent to lab work. This avoids the need to identify all of the components in a sample before comparing it to other samples, thus saving effort and avoiding the potential problem of missing an important component due to problems in the identification stage. Such methods can involve identifying, grouping and measuring sets of characteristic peaks in order to identify and quantify shared peptides. The present teachings provide, among other things, a method for comparing and associating multiple data sets. These methods, can be used, for example, for analyzing LC/MS runs, gel images etc.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel prognostic and health management method for natural aging systems. This prognostic and health management method can detect anomalies in a system in advance, and can determine whether the detected anomalies are due to natural aging or other aging processes. In this prognostic method, a moving window method for improving the performance of the conventional data-driven prognostic methods is described. This prognostic and health management method combines with the detections by the data-driven prognostic method based on the conventional training and moving window methods to determine whether the detected anomalies are due to natural aging or other aging processes and in so doing can reduce the number of false alarms; reduce cost of a system by decreasing the unnecessary maintenance, downtime, and inventory; can extend the life of systems; and can assist in the design and qualification of future systems to improve their reliability.

Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) motion identifying method and system are used for identifying a motion of an object in a 3D space. First, the method provides a database recording sets of predetermined inertial information, and each of the sets of predetermined inertial information is an inertial movement of a specific motion in the 3D space. Then, inertial information of the object in moving is retrieved via a motion sensor in the object, and the inertial information is compared with all predetermined inertial information in the database to determine similarities therebetween. Finally, whether the motion of the object is the same as any predetermined inertial information or not is determined according to a degree of the similarity. As a result, more complicated motions of the object can be directly identified via the comparison with the database.

In some embodiments, the criticality vector and vulnerability vector may be used to represent a site's overall risk and/or prioritization and ranking relative to other sites.

Abstract: A method and system for discovering a control event from electronically published documents is provided, in which a control program on a computer identifies electronically published documents stored in a plurality of network servers which potentially contain control events relevant to the control of goods and/or services, the control events being identified by reference to a user interest database containing user interest identifiers. Identified documents are analyzed by a classification program to determine whether control events are present, referring to a control event database. A control event classification is assigned to documents determined to contain at least one discovered control event, the assigned control event classification and information identifying the associated document is stored in a classification database, and a report of discovery of documents containing control events is be provided to a user.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and system for predicting the availability of hot water for bathing. One or more parameters corresponding to the operation of a water heater are monitored over time and/or a temperature distribution of water in a hot water tank measured. Data corresponding to the monitored parameters and/or temperature distribution are processed to determine a rate at which hot water is being consumed by filling a bath and/or due to other hot water consumers and/or to determine a current hot water availability condition. Based on a hot water consumption rate and/or determination of a current hot water availability condition, a projection is made to whether there will be adequate hot water to fill the bathtub to a desired level or volume at a desired temperature.

Abstract: An Enhanced Relationship Prediction System for providing a relationship prediction based on the correlation of personal characteristics and the analysis of genetic characteristics is disclosed. In one embodiment, a first person supplies descriptions of their own personal characteristics, as well as descriptions of the personal characteristics of their ideal match, to a website. The first person also furnishes an odor, tissue or fluid sample to a test facility, where genetic characteristics are analyzed and determined. A relationship match is then generated based on both a combination of both a positive correlation of the personal characteristics of the first person and second person, and a measured dissimilarity between the sequence of genetic characteristics of the first person and second person. In an alternative embodiment, the hormonal birth control status of the participants is used in the matching process.

Abstract: Methods and systems to model and acquire data from a variety of data and information sources, to integrate the data into a structured database, and to manage the continuing reintegration of updated data from those sources over time. For any given domain, a variety of individual information and data sources that contain information relevant to the schema can be identified. Data elements associated with a schema may be identified in a training source, such as by user tagging. A formal grammar may be induced appropriate to the schema and layout of the training source. A Hidden Markov Model (HMM) corresponding to the grammar may learn where in the sources the elements can be found. The system can automatically mutate its schema into a grammar matching the structure of the source documents. By following an inverse transformation sequence, data that is parsed by the mutated grammar can be fit back into the original grammar structure, matching the original data schema defined through domain modeling.
