Abstract: The invention relates to identifying substances in a sample by similarity comparisons between series of ion mobility spectra of the sample and series of ion mobility spectra of reference samples. The collection of series of spectra of reference samples, termed reference library, are divided into classes, with the class assignment of a series of spectra being calculated from the measured values themselves, and limiting the similarity comparisons to series of spectra with the same class assignment. First and second moments of the spectra have proven to be particularly favorable characteristics for the class assignment.

The method includes identifying a first topic within a first document and comparing the first topic to a first set of topics. The method then determines whether an emergence time for the first topic can be identified. The first topic is recognized as a new topic based on the comparison between the first set of topics and the emergence time for the first topic. For example, when the first topic does not exist within the first set of topics and the emergence time for the first topic can be identified, the first topic is recognized as a new topic.

Abstract: An automated hierarchy classification algorithm that searches for a child monitoring device's parent in a utility monitoring system by segmenting the device data measured by a given device pair and calculating a segment correlation coefficient for each data segment. Devices to be placed in the hierarchy are filtered by calculating the variance of their device data and eliminating devices with a low variance. Devices are ranked by computing the sum of squares of their device data and ordering the devices accordingly from highest to lowest. The device data is segmented and segment correlation coefficients are averaged to produce an overall correlation coefficient. Criteria are evaluated to determine whether a device pair is linked. A correlation coefficient is calculated using the complete data series of a device pair, and the solution produced by this approach is compared with the solution produced by segmenting the device data.

One embodiment of the disclosure of this application is related to a computer readable storage medium including a set of instructions that are executable by a processor. The set of instructions being operable to retrieve a profile for an intended fiber, the profile including unique measurement data of the intended fiber, receive from the OFDR further measurement data from a connected fiber within a network, compare the unique measurement data of the intended fiber to the further measurement data of the connected fiber, and confirm an identity of the connected fiber as being the intended fiber when the unique measurement data matches the further measurement data, and trigger an alert when the unique measurement data does not match the further measurement data.

Abstract: A system and method of processing one or more sensor logs includes receiving a sensor log and identifying a set of entries in the sensor log having a predefined sequence of sensor identifiers. The set of entries may define a velocity event. The method can also provide for calculating an in-home gait velocity for the velocity event. In one example, the method also provides for identifying another set of entries in the sensor log having a sensor identifier that corresponds to a dwell sensor mounted in a doorway, wherein the other set of entries define a dwell event. The method may also provide for calculating an in-home dwell time for the dwell event.

Abstract: Systems and methods for aggregating user data and targeting content to users are described. User data is collected through quizzes and users are associated with a particular fictional or nonfictional character profile based on the user-submitted information. The user data associated with each character profile is aggregated to identify and recommend content for the user, such as television shows, news feed, web pages, promotions, advertisements, and the like. The invention can be used in connection with fan sites or other topic-specific sites that are associated with the character of the character profile.

Abstract: According to one embodiment of the invention, software operating as a state machine may be implemented within a digital device to support out-of-ordering processing of events by the state machine. Upon execution of the software by a processor, the following operations are performed. First, a determination is made if an incoming event is a transition, and if so, if the transition is not a transition associated with the current state of the state machine, but rather, is out-of-order from a predetermined order of transitions supported by the state machine. Upon determining that the transition is out-of-order, a determination is made whether the transition is to a reachable state such as a state prior to the current state of the state machine or to a future state from the current state. If so, the transition is allowed to be undertaken.

Abstract: An expertise locator enables user defined correspondences between experts and respective certain objects. Each object inherits from classes in a hierarchy. Using the correspondences, a locator processor routine finds a candidate expert about a particular subject area. The candidate expert may be in a correspondence with a certain object whose class is a subclass of the particular subject area. Output may display an indication of the candidate expert, relevant expertise per candidate and/or a list of experts per certain object. In the case of the certain objects being topics, the hierarchy is an ontology of the topics.

There is included a signature generation component that generates a source signature of all or a portion of the data source and a target signature of all or a corresponding portion of the data target, and a sampling component that obtains a sample of the source data a corresponding sample of the target data. The data signatures and data samples are compared respectively and processed with a processing component to determine the status of the validation process.

Abstract: A computer-implemented sepsis alerting method is disclosed. The method involves automatically extracting with a computer system, from records maintained for a patient under care in a healthcare facility, information from a electronic medical record, and obtaining with the computer system information about real-time status of the patient. The method also involves using the information from the electronic medical record and the information about the real-time status to determine whether the patient is likely to be suffering from dangerous probability of sepsis, using information from the electronic medical record to determine whether treatment for sepsis is already being provided to the patient, and electronically alerting a caregiver over a network if it is determined that a potentially dangerous level of sepsis exists and that treatment for sepsis is not already being provided.
