Abstract: In a corpus of scientific articles such as a digital library, documents are connected by citations and one document plays two different roles in the corpus: document itself and a citation of other documents. A Bernoulli Process Topic (BPT) model is provided which models the corpus at two levels: document level and citation level. In the BPT model, each document has two different representations in the latent topic space associated with its roles. Moreover, the multi-level hierarchical structure of the citation network is captured by a generative process involving a Bernoulli process. The distribution parameters of the BPT model are estimated by a variational approximation approach.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing an auto-search text box in a content submission system are provided. In example embodiments, a message interface that is used to submit content to a content submission system is provided. The message interface includes a short text field that receives at least one keyword that summarizes the content to be submitted. In response to completion of entry of the at least one keyword in the short text field, a search of a content database for previously submitted content that matches the at least one keyword is automatically performed. Based on the search, a results list is displayed in proximity to the short text field on the message interface. The results list comprises a title and a link for each result in the results lists.

Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus of a playable music library building in a streaming media environment are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of a server device includes, creatin a streamable playlist associated with a user, determining that the streamable playlist is associated with an artist, and determining that a central database includes new tracks of the artist, automatically adding the new tracks to the streamable playlist without charging a consideration to the user. The method may include communicating an alert message to the user when the new tracks may be added to the streamable playlist. The method may create a category playlist associated with the user based on a category of a media content. The method may include determining that the central database may include additional tracks in the category. The method may request that the user to add the additional tracks in the category playlist.

Abstract: Systems and methods for rendering automatic annotation for electronic books with external information provided by an information database. A computer implemented method is used to automatically determine key terms and match the key terms with correct information from external information sources for presentation at an e-book page. The key terms can be detected based on a TF-IDF based content analysis process. The detected key terms can be processed by a disambiguation process to select the pertinent definition for multi-sense terms according to one or more selected information sources. Hyperlinks can be embedded in the key terms for direct and convenient link to the matching external information in response to user interactions.

Abstract: A computing system executes an instant message session between one or more users of the one or more collaborative tools. The computer system further examines information from instant messages in a message window of the instant message session. In addition, the computer system identifies keyword data of the examined information of the instant messages. The computer system queries a first repository for related content data that matches the keyword data. The computer system also generates one or more contextual search results based on the match. The computer system further transmits the generated one or more contextual search results for display on the one or more collaboration tools. The computer system further stores the keyword data and the contextual search results of the keyword data in a collaboration archive of a database, and automatically updates the contextual search results during instant message sessions.

Abstract: An Internet Protocol television (IPTV) system includes a selector module that selects a content item and sends a stream of the content item to a set-top box. The set-top box analyzes content information associated with the content item using a speech interpretation algorithm or a text interpretation algorithm to create an index of the content information and determines to record the content item based upon the index of the content information. A method includes sending a content item from an IPTV network to a set-top box, directing the set-top box to analyze content information associated with the content item using a speech interpretation algorithm or a text interpretation algorithm, and directing the set-top box to record the content item based upon the analysis of the content information.

Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium are disclosed for maintaining persistent links to information stored on a network. Information elements are tagged and their original network location is saved as a hyperlink. The tagged information elements are then acquired at the original network location by a search engine crawler, indexed by a search engine, and stored in an information location index. The tagged information elements are periodically submitted to the search engine to generate search results. Comparison operations are performed to determine the search results comprising the closest-matching information elements and their current network location. The network location stored in the hyperlink is replaced with the current network location if it is not the same.

Abstract: A computing system executes an instant message session between one or more users of the one or more collaborative tools. The computer system further examines information from instant messages in a message window of the instant message session. In addition, the computer system identifies at least one keyword data of the examined information of the instant messages. The computer system queries a first repository for related content data that matches the at least one keyword data. The computer system also generates one or more contextual search results based on the match. Furthermore, the computer system transmits the generated one or more contextual search results for display on the one or more collaboration tools.

Abstract: A method for operating a web service to search one or more data sources, the method including receiving a query directed to a first data source, wherein the first data source defines at least one characteristic of at least one first data object returned by the query, receiving at least one first data object from the first data source in response to querying the first data source, retrieving linked relationships between the at least one first data object and one or more second data objects from a second data source, receiving the one or more second data objects from the second data source in response to querying the second data source, generating a composite data object in response to the received query, the composite data object including the at least one first data object and the one or more second data objects formatted as markup language.

Abstract: An embodiment of the disclosed system provides the user of a computing device with information concerning the expected usefulness of an item, such as a hyperlink, within a network resource, such as a search result webpage, with the expected usefulness information based at least in part on an attribute of the user's computing device. For example, the system may provide the user with information identifying a particular website as poorly suited for the user's device, based on data that the system collected identifying an aggregate bounce-back rate from computing devices with a similar attribute to the user's computing device.

Abstract: Data records are linked across a plurality of datasets. Each dataset contains at least one data record, and each data record is associated with an entity and includes one or more attributes of that entity and a value for each attribute. Values associated with attributes are compared across datasets, and matching attributes having values that satisfy a predetermined similarity threshold are identified. In addition, linkage points between pairs of datasets are identified. Each linkage point links one or more pairs of data records. Each data record in the pair of data records is contained in one of a given pair of datasets, and each pair of data records is associated with a common entity having matching attributes in the given pair of datasets. Data records associated with the common entities are linked across datasets using the identified linkage points.

Abstract: System and method for recommending to a member of a social network an interaction with ones of a plurality of entities. Events related to individual ones of the plurality of entities are obtained. A relevance of ones of the events to the member is determined based on at least one characteristic of ones of the events and a trait of the member. Recommended interactions with ones of the plurality of entities individually related to the ones of the events based on the relevance for each of the events are presented to the user.

Abstract: A system may identify a set of first documents associated with an organization, and identify clusters to which the first documents belong. Each of a number of the identified clusters may include a group of documents that includes one of the first documents and one or more second documents associated with one or more different organizations. The system may determine a quality score for each of the documents in each of the identified clusters, and determine, for each of the number of the identified clusters, whether the quality score of the one of the first documents in the identified cluster is higher than the quality score of the one or more second documents in the identified cluster. The system may generate a proxy pad score based on the determinations, and store the proxy pad score.

Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying and ranking search results and online advertisements based on authenticity are described. A search server includes an authenticity index, which includes authenticity metric values associated with one or more web elements. The authenticity metric values may indicate the relative authority of the web element with respect to a specific category, keyword, search term, phrase, context, filter, etc. Search results may be generated and ranked based on the authenticity metric values.

Abstract: A search engine provides personalized rankings of search results. A user interest profile identifies topics of interest to a user. Each topic is associated with one or more sites, and a boost value, which can be used to augment an information retrieval score of any document from the site. Search results from any search are provided to the user, with a variable control of the ranking of the results. The results can be ranked by their unboosted information retrieval score, thus reflecting no personalization, or by their fully or partially boosted information retrieval scores. This allows the user to selectively control how their interests affect the ranking of the documents.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for identifying search keywords for searching for an online information resource are disclosed. The method involves receiving a request, from a business, for search keywords relating to the content of the business's online information resource. The method further involves generating a post including a link to a search keyword recommendation page; and publishing, using a social network application, the post to a newsfeed in a social network. Additionally, the method involves receiving, from social network users, a plurality of search keywords relating to the online information resource's content. In addition, the method involves ranking the received search keywords; and presenting, to the business, the most popular search keywords.

Abstract: A method includes receiving a concept hierarchy at a computing device. The concept hierarchy identifies concepts associated with a document corpus. An interface based on the concept hierarchy is generated. The interface is operable to navigate and search the concept hierarchy.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a search query is received. Information identifying a bookmark representing the search query is automatically stored in association with a set of bookmarks. Search results corresponding to the search query are automatically obtained and provided, where the search results identify one or more documents. When one of the documents is selected, a link to the selected one of the documents is automatically stored in association with the bookmark.

Abstract: Computer-readable media and methods to provide a toolbar application are described. The toolbar application receives indicators for determining when a context-specific search is executed. The toolbar application monitors uniform resource locator (URL) addresses to which a browser navigates for the inclusion of an indicator. Upon identifying an indicator in a URL the toolbar application presents filters that are associated with the indicator in a toolbar user interface. A user's selection of one or more of the filters is received at the toolbar user interface and the corresponding filters are applied to the context-specific search results by modifying the identified URL with a modifier associated with a selected filter and causing the browser or search engine to re-execute the search query with the selected filters applied. The filtered search results are presented to the user. The toolbar user interface is modified to indicate the application of the selected filters.

The popularity data may also include data mined from sources including search engines and social media sites. An overall recommendation score may be a weighted function of consumption data and popularity data. A customized recommendation score may be a weighted function of the overall recommendation score influenced by regional considerations, demographic considerations, and other considerations. The editorial content may include art and text and may be customized based on regional considerations, demographic considerations, and based on other art or text that will appear at the same time as the editorial content.

Abstract: Described herein are methods, systems, apparatuses and products for automated information discovery and traceability for evidence generation. An aspect provides for accessing a mapping of a plurality of connected nodes stored in a memory device, said mapping being discovered via a network scan based on a seed set, said plurality of connected nodes storing a plurality of archived healthcare records; accessing content stored in a memory device and ingested from said plurality of connected nodes; and determining a longitudinal healthcare record from the mapping and the content ingested from said plurality of connected nodes. Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for evaluating image similarity. In one aspect, a method includes receiving, by a data processing apparatus, image search data for different search sessions, a search session being a pre-specified period, the image search data for a search session including: search query data specifying search queries that were received during the search session; responsive image data specifying images that were identified in response to the search queries; and interaction data specifying images referenced by search results with which a user interacted. Sets of learning images are identified based on the image search data. The sets of learning images include co-selected images for the search sessions. A query-dependent image profile for a particular image is determined based in part on the co-selected images that were identified in response to the particular query.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods and computer program products for generating search results comprising web documents with associated expert information. One embodiment of a method for generating such search results includes receiving one or more search queries, selecting one of the one or more search queries, determining one or more categories of web documents responsive to the selected search query and crawling a web graph of linked web documents to identify one or more web documents tagged as within the one or more categories responsive to the selected search query. The method further includes generating a result set of the one or more web documents identified as within the one or more categories responsive to the selected search query, ranking the result set and generating a list of ranked search results responsive to the selected search.

Responsive to receiving the user selection of the link: the copy of the first webpage stored in the cache memory is modified at the local client machine to include metadata associated with the user selection of the link on the first webpage; and a second webpage associated with the link is presented. A request to reload the first webpage is received. Responsive to receiving the request to reload the first webpage: the metadata from the first webpage stored in the cache memory is obtained; a third webpage based on the metadata is obtained; and the third webpage is displayed.

Abstract: An approach is provided that visually distinguishes between entity types in a communication system. A Data store with entities is queried, with entities connected to one another as senders and receivers, resulting in a query result. A node data structure corresponding to each of the entities is created and an edge data structure corresponding to each of the connections between the entities is also created. Nodes corresponding to the node data structures are displayed, along with edges (e.g., connection lines) corresponding to the edge data structures. A user selects one of the nodes that is displayed, and the selected node is visually highlighted. Different types of non-selected nodes are identified based on the selected node. Types of nodes may include sender type nodes, receiver type nodes, and sender/receiver type nodes. The types of identified nodes are highlighted in a manner that visually distinguishes each type from the other types.

Abstract: A system and a method for the management of addressable network resources (e.g., Web pages, electronic documents accessed via a Uniform Resource Identifier, etc.) within a network are provided. Specifically, embodiments of addressable network resource selection systems and methods are disclosed for managing the analysis and identification of optimal links between addressable network resources. A resource selection component enables pruning of undesirable pages on the basis of various usage metrics, including user depart rate. The resource selection component may then identify optimal linking strategies by determining one or more linking scores for remaining pages based on any of a number of different page usage metrics. In other embodiments, addressable network resource selection systems and methods may weight linking scores to emphasize desired outcomes, such as encouraging exploration of a network-based site or encouraging high aggregate sales figures.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for using scientific papers in web search are described. A web search system can rank scientific content highly in search results of a query, when the scientific content has been popular in the past but is obscure at query time. The web search system can augment a search query by providing additional search terms when terms in the search query and the additional search terms appeared together in news stories frequently in the past but appear together infrequently at query time.

Abstract: In this invention, systems and methods for providing keywords for advertising are provided. After a user searches for another user in a social network, the webpage or blog of the queried user is retrieved, and keywords are extracted from this webpage. The keywords may be extracted from the user's profile on the social network (e.g., favorite sports, music artists, etc.), or keywords may be extracted from the text of the webpage (e.g., comments that comprise the blog entries). Once extracted, these keywords may then be used by an advertising system to provide targeted advertisements to the user.

Abstract: A method of suggesting replacements for unavailable web pages is performed at a server system separate from a client system. A web page is identified. For documents in a collection of web pages, respective overlaps of content in the web page and the documents are determined based on stored information about content in the web page and the documents. One or more of the documents that have overlaps that satisfy a first criterion are selected. A request for a replacement for the web page is received from the client system and replacement web page information is provided to the client system. The replacement web page information is selected from the set consisting of A) one or more links to the one or more selected documents, B) a redirect to one of the one or more selected documents, and C) one of the one or more selected documents.

Abstract: A method and system for supporting interaction with a back end server application through a messaging environment. Specifically, the method determines when an event occurs. The event allows for an action, in response to the event, to be taken by a user within the back end server application. A notification message is generated informing the user of the event. The notification message is rendered to comply with a format supporting the messaging environment. The notification message that is rendered enables the user to take the action within the back end application without having the user directly open the back end server application. The rendered notification message is sent to an electronic device associated with the user to facilitate interfacing between the user and the back end server application.

Abstract: System for providing hierarchical services in a data network. A method is provided for inserting content into a content stream for rendering on a device. The method includes obtaining one or more annotation parameters that comprise a content identifier, and determining an insertion point indicator that indicates a location in the content stream. The method also includes retrieving the content based on the content identifier, and inserting the content in the content stream at a location indicated by the insertion point indicator.

Abstract: Improved systems and methods for navigating and interacting in virtual communication environments are described. At least some of these systems and methods provide a framework that includes one or more virtual areas and supports realtime communications between the communicants. At least some of these systems and methods provide an interface that includes navigation controls that enable a user to navigate virtual areas and interaction controls that enable the user to interact with other communicants in the one or more virtual areas.

Abstract: A method assigns importance ranks to nodes in a linked database, such as any database of documents containing citations, the world wide web or any other hypermedia database. The rank assigned to a document is calculated from the ranks of documents citing it. In addition, the rank of a document is calculated from a constant representing the probability that a browser through the database will randomly jump to the document. The method is particularly useful in enhancing the performance of search engine results for hypermedia databases, such as the world wide web, whose documents have a large variation in quality.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a storage subsystem comprising a non-volatile solid-state memory array and a system operation module for managing memory operations. The system operation module is configured to store system operation data in a data structure that includes linked lists for storing system operation data, with at least some lists including entries referencing blocks in the solid-state memory array belonging to a category. The system operation module is further configured to (1) move a particular entry from a first linked list to a second linked list when a block referenced by the particular entry in the first linked list has met a condition for being classified in a new category that is different from that of the blocks referenced by entries in the first linked list, and (2) update entries within the first and second linked lists so that the dependencies in the linked lists are maintained.

Abstract: Determining the relevance of a web node is disclosed. A seed score value of a first type is assigned to a seed set of nodes. A score value of a second type is derived for the web node based on a mapping of a reachability relationship between one or more seed nodes and the web node. A score value of the first type is derived for the web node based on a mapping of a reachability relationship between the web node and one or more evaluation nodes having derived weight values of the second type. Topic diffusion is mitigated.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for modeling costed entities and performing a value chain analysis. In one implementation, methods and systems may implement a costing platform. The costing platform may be adapted for modeling any set of costed entities and processing value chains. Value chains may be modeled by a user via the costing platform, so that networks comprised of objects and edges, and costed entities located at the objects can be modeled and functions can be added to determine key figures.

Abstract: An “asset-based” user interface can be provided based on consulting metadata with an asset and presenting an interface to allow selection of actions associated with that particular asset. By presenting a listing of actions in response to a single command, the user can be spared the need to navigate through contextual menus to determine available services. The interface can be presented in a file selection interface provided by an operating system, e.g., in response to an “open” command in a folder. A method can comprise identifying a command referencing an asset and accessing metadata associated with the asset. The accessed metadata can comprise a unique metadata record for the asset available locally and/or accessible from a remote computing system. The method may further comprise determining one or more actions available for use with the referenced asset and providing an interface for selecting one or more of the determined actions.

Abstract: A facility for tracking the sharing of distinguished content is described. When a user seeks to access the distinguished content from a client computer system using a URL associated with the distinguished content, the facility determines whether a user identifier is represented in the URL. If a user identifier is represented in the URL that is different from a user identifier that is persistently stored by the client computer system, the facility determines that the distinguished content has been shared with a user identified by the user identifier that is persistently stored by the client computer system by a user identified by the identifier represented in the URL.

Abstract: Exemplary methods, apparatuses, and systems receive a search input, select a first cell related to the search input, and display data of the first cell and selectable objects in response to the search input. Each cell defines a way to display a portion of searchable data within a first contextual relationship and a way to display a portion of the searchable data within a second, different contextual relationship. Selection of a first selectable object results in displaying a first portion of the data of the first cell with a first set of other data related to the first portion based upon the first contextual relationship.
