Abstract: A search query is received. Personal information for a user is then determined. A search is performed in a general subdomain of general content using the search query. For example, the general subdomain of general content may be a WWW search. Then, a vertical subdomain is determined based on the personal information. A search is then performed in the vertical subdomain of specialized content using the search query. The search performed in the general subdomain and the search performed in the vertical subdomain generate general search results and vertical search results. The results may be combined and outputted to a client.

Abstract: An electronic processing system for generating a partially personalized electronic data display that contains a combination of recommended and expanded interest items. The system retrieves a first set of data describing an area of user interests and retrieves a first set of items corresponding to the area of user interests. The system retrieves a second set of items in an expanded area of interest that is not directly included in the area of user interest. The first and second set of items are combined and the combined set of recommended and expanded interest items is displayed.

Abstract: A system and method for providing preferred language and/or country ordering of search results is described. A search query describing potentially retrievable information provided in a plurality of search result languages and/or countries is received. A search is executed by evaluating the search query against information characteristics maintained in a searchable data repository. At least one preferred language and/or country applicable to search results generated is dynamically determined responsive to the executed search. At least some of the search results are ordered in consideration of the at least one preferred language and/or country.

Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, processes and interfaces provide for enhancing search results of a group research project. For example, members of a group may be provided with information regarding other group member's search activities and/or be restricted from viewing certain search results (e.g., search results that are most popular with the public for a given search term, that are most popular with the group for the given search term or for the project, and/or search results that are restricted by a group manager).

Abstract: Content and metadata associated with the content may be provided to a number of users. The content may be displayed on a display device while the metadata may be transmitted to a remote device corresponding to a receiving user. The user may further request desired information or metadata pertaining to the content and the requested information or metadata may be transmitted to the user's remote device. Different users may request different information on the same or different objects being displayed or presented on a display device. Each requesting user may receive requested information on the same or different objects via corresponding remote devices.

Abstract: In a method for visualizing query results in stream processing systems, a visualization service receives a query from a client to visualize data in a stream processing application. The query is sent from the visualization service to a query-able operator of the stream processing application. At the query-able operator, an operation is performed using history data in the query-able operator to produce a first result that satisfies the query and the first result is sent to the visualization service. At the query-able operator, another operation is performed using new data received by the query-able operator to produce a second result that satisfies the query and the second result is sent to the visualization service. The first and second results are output from the visualization service to the client.

Abstract: A modular appliance based architecture is disclosed that allows for database consolidation and systems integration. The collaborative data appliance comprises modules designed to collect and combine data which is relevant to the user, uniquely arranging the data into meaningful views which can be later customized into a multitude of reports. The appliance utilizes a customized data code that allows the appliance to span the disparate databases it will consolidate. The appliance also allows a user to share information across systems in a heterogeneous environment by replicating data between different hardware platforms and data sources, without losing the integrity of the data. Further, the appliance comprises a discovery engine that utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI), and that requires User Input (UI).

Abstract: A system for use in storage of advertisements in a personal account at an online service is provided. The online service may be configured to serve data to a client device to cause the client device to display a graphical user interface. The system may include a search interface to receive a search query input by a user and to display search results and one or more advertisements generated from a search engine of the online service in response to the search query, a selector configured to receive a user command to save a selected advertisement in the personal account for later viewing and/or traversal of a hyperlink embedded in the advertisement, and a personal account interface to display a saved advertisement in the personal account.

Abstract: A computer system provides a unified view of data for different organizations of a business. The accessed data may be distributed over different data sources that may include a data warehouse, operational databases (e.g., systems of records supporting different functions), production servers, and external data sources. Access to one or more of the data sources may be restricted based on a user profile. Data may also be accessed by directly tapping into the systems of record of a business to potentially reduce the duplication of data and provide the data in a timelier basis. Data may be obtained from the systems of record by pinging selected systems using an application programming interface and may be stored in a computing cloud that is not constrained to a particular physical asset of the business. In addition, the accessed data may be analyzed and presented differently based on the different lines of business.

Abstract: A system and method for identifying users relevant to a topic of interest is provided. A query comprising one or more topics is executed against a corpus of messages. Voting users associated with the messages matching the query are identified. A set of candidate users comprising users connected to the voting users is generated. A relevancy score is computed for each candidate user. The candidate users are ranked by their respective relevancy score.

Abstract: A social network service provides trusted, timely and managed communications between a querying individual and an informed individual by optimizing distribution of queries to reflect a requisite amount of expertise necessary (i.e., interest, background, education, demographic attribute, etc.). Those candidate recipients with a rare level of expertise or specialization can specify a desired level of participation, which is respected. In order not to exhaust their availability, those who are less qualified or part of a larger demographic category appropriate for the query are selected to handle queries of lesser difficulty or less specialization. Anonymity if desired by the recipient party can be supported by increasing the pool of candidate recipients so that the querying party cannot reasonably ascertain who is responding. Timeliness of response, as well as satisfaction in the response, is tracked in order to affect redirection of a query.

Abstract: A method comprises receiving a search request to search a bookmark package database storing bookmarks and tag information, e.g., user-generated keywords; using the search request to search the tag information in the bookmark package database to locate relevant bookmarks and to generate search results; and presenting the search results to a user. The search results may identify user-specific relevant bookmarks, and/or relevant bookmarks regardless of the creator. The method may include determining related terms and enabling selection of the related terms to initiate additional searching. The method may include generating a relevance value based on keyword order, meta-information type, number of bookmarks to a given content item, number of hits on a given bookmark, time of last bookmarking to a given content item, and/or content analysis. Search result organization may be based on the relevance values. The bookmark package database may further store automatically generated and user-generated meta-information.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for ranking a result set. The method according to one embodiment comprises selecting an item from the result set, selecting a user profile from one or more user profiles and selecting one or more items of personalized information from the selected user profile. A rank is calculated for the item on the basis of the selected one or more items of personalized information and the selected item in the result set is ranked in accordance with the calculated rank.

Abstract: A search engine provides personalized rankings of search results. A user interest profile identifies topics of interest to a user. Each topic is associated with one or more sites, and a boost value, which can be used to augment an information retrieval score of any document from the site. Search results from any search are provided to the user, with a variable control of the ranking of the results. The results can be ranked by their unboosted information retrieval score, thus reflecting no personalization, or by their fully or partially boosted information retrieval scores. This allows the user to selectively control how their interests affect the ranking of the documents.

Abstract: Examples of the present invention include profiling systems that store, manage, and utilize profile information to take predictive or deterministic action. Embodiments of the invention allow the profiling system to be used as a trusted intermediary where the profile owning entity controls access to their profile information across their network of devices and services.

Abstract: A method to access trusted user generated content (UGC) is provided. User registration information containing one or more identities is obtained. Each identity corresponds to an internet social network that is facilitated by one of a plurality of social network sites. The social relationships are collected using the provided user identities at the different social network sites and user extended social networks are created for each user by joining the social relationships collected. Then, UGC is collected from the plurality of social network sites and the collected UGC is correlated with the extended social networks. The correlated UGC is filtered according to the user configuration of a user making a request, and then the results are presented to the requesting user. A search function is provided to obtain information on demand, or alternatively, a user receives feeds of information according to configured information regarding the user's extended social network.

Abstract: A music recommendation method and a computer readable recording medium storing a computer program performing the method are provided. In the music recommendation method, music items and rating data matrix comprising ratings and user IDs are first provided. Then, the ratings of each music item are classified into positive ratings and negative ratings. Thereafter, a pre-processing phase comprising a frame-based clustering step and a sequence-based clustering step is performed to transform the music items into perceptual patterns. Then, a prediction phase is performed to determine an interest value of a plurality of target music items for an active user. Thereafter, the target music items arranged into a music recommendation list in accordance with the first interest value and the second interest values, wherein the music recommendation list is a reference for the active user to select one of the target items.

Abstract: An improved method for information retrieval in web query and recommendation systems, where items that are likely unfamiliar to the users of the system, but potentially relevant, are recommended. In a recommendation system having ratings by a plurality of users for a plurality of items, items are assigned to one or more data regions based on item attributes or user activity. Source regions are identified for each of the data regions. For a given user, data regions with which both the user and the user's social network are unfamiliar are identified. Within a given data region, the relevance of items to the user within such regions is evaluated using ratings provided by other users who have entered ratings similar to the user in source regions for the data region. Items receiving the highest relevance score are recommended to the user.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide for various methods and apparatuses for searching bodies of knowledge, such as previously indexed source documents reachable over a network, search results from previous searches, and results from performing meta-searches. Search criteria is received from a client, and the bodies of knowledge are searched based on the search criteria, and search results provided responsive to said searching. Search results may be configured to have associated distillation triggers, where selecting a trigger causes its associated search result to be distilled in real-time. Abstract: Systems and techniques to develop an enterprise management consolidation system are described including a cross-functional application to provide communication between at least one of an object modeling tool, a process modeling tool and a user interface tool. The user interface tool is configured to find resources having desired characteristics. In general, in one implementation, the technique includes receiving characteristics of a resource desired by a user and searching a data source of resource profiles to locate profiles having one or more of the characteristics. The located profiles are provided to the user in a hit-list, which may then be narrowed by receiving from the user refinements or segment filters.

Abstract: It is provided a method of matching pairs of persons. The method includes receiving from the persons personal opinions on other persons, and based on a collaborative filtering algorithm, calculating from the personal opinions a first estimated opinion of a first person on a second person and a second estimated opinion of the second person on the first person. The method also includes matching the two persons in accordance with the estimated opinions and connecting them for a predetermined time duration. The first estimated opinions may be the estimated probability that the first person wants to be matched to the second person. The matching of the two persons is done in accordance with the product of the probabilities. Matching order is determined by a difference between a highest and a second highest product of a person in two different pairs.

Abstract: Apparatuses, methods, and systems for information querying and serving on the internet based on profiles. Information and/or advertisement providers may use a code triggered information server to serve context, demographic, and behavior targeted information to users on the internet. Users trigger the provision of information by scanning or observing codes or information, or by selecting web links. The triggers, together with geographic, temporal, and user-specific information, are obtained by the server that receives, processes, and records the message. Based on these messages and a user profile the server selects information to serve to a user on the internet from an information base. In one embodiment, information may also be served to users without any initiating trigger. This is based on user trajectories or web-surfing habits deduced from the accumulated history of triggers.
