Abstract: Techniques are described to characterize motion patterns of a group of agents engaging in an activity. An analysis system receives input data associated with spatial and temporal information of at least one element of interest associated with the activity, where the object of interest may be a ball, person, animal or any other object in motion. The analysis system partitions the input data into a plurality of spatiotemporal segments and generates one or more representations of one or more sets of segments of the plurality of spatiotemporal segments based on one or more criteria. The analysis system computes a metric, such as an entropy value, for each of the one or more representations. Partial tracing data, such as ball movements in a sporting event, may be created using an inexpensive input device, such as a tablet computer, making the disclosed techniques available for a wide range of events and activities.

Abstract: A selected set of one or more first events that have occurred within current data is received. An episode set of which the selected set is a subset, the episode set including one or more second events that have occurred within historical data related to the current data is identified. One or more third events that occurred within the historical data within a predetermined time horizon after the one or more second events of the episode set occurred within the historical data are identified. The one or more third events are predicted to likely occur within the current data as a result of the one or more first events having occurred within the current data.

Abstract: A system renders at least one content library in an organization region. The content library represents content that is accessible via a policy. The system receives a selection to obtain the content represented by the content library, and renders content information that represents a listing of the content contained within the content library. The content information is displayed within a listing region wherein the content may be accessible via the policy. The system downloads the content for which access has been granted via the policy. The content is downloaded from a content source provider.

Abstract: A semantic-based searching apparatus and method which can search for desired information from various types of media using associative properties of search target objects are provided. The semantic-based searching apparatus stores an associative search structure that previously stores a semantic index. The associative search structure is to obtain a final search object corresponding to an input search query. The semantic index configuration includes feature metadata used to identify a specific object, semantic entity metadata to indicate semantic entities corresponding to the feature metadata, and semantic relation metadata to indicate a relation between the semantic entities. The semantic-based searching apparatus uses semantic metadata stored in conformity with the semantic index configuration, the semantic index, and the associative search structure to generate a search result corresponding to the input search query.

Abstract: Various embodiments for optimizing data migration and recall in a computing storage environment by a processor device are provided. Data stored in the computing storage environment is analyzed over a predetermined period of time to identify a usage pattern of a portion of the data. The portion of the data having the usage pattern is recalled in advance of a usage time, the usage time predicted by the usage pattern for the portion of the data to be accessed.

Abstract: The invention enables music tracks in a playlist to be explored using a unique music genogram data format. The invention further enables a user to map an emotional trajectory on the emotion wheel as a basis for the generation of the playlist with music tracks. The invention provides for a unique visualization of the playlist using the emotional wheel representation. A user will be given the option to specify an initial mood and a destination mood. The trajectory between the initial mood and the destination mood may be steered through the emotions falling in-between. The thus obtained mood trajectory is then populated by music tracks to form a playlist.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a system, method, and program product for managing data sets. According to one aspect of the present invention, a data group of one or more related data sets is reorganized. Utilizing one or more specified criteria, data sets that should be cataloged in the data group are identified and cataloged in the data group such that they are arranged in a chronological order and are named with appropriate generation numbers.

Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide a new way to catalog digital assets derived or otherwise created from an original source such as a video, clip, movie, film, or the like. In one embodiment, time-based metadata, along with technical metadata and business metadata can be captured within a video and collected locally at a client device running media catalog client software. The collected information can be communicated to a media catalog server at the back end. The media catalog server can create a new asset based on the collected information and store the asset in a database. Multiple assets may be created to describe and reference the same video. However, the video itself is not modified and no variation of the video is created in anyway.

Abstract: A method for question/answer creation for a document is described. The method includes importing a document having a set of questions based on content in the document. The method also includes automatically creating a candidate question from the content in the document. The method also includes automatically generating answers for the set of questions and the candidate question using the content in the document. The method also includes presenting the set of questions, the candidate question, and the answers to a content creator for user verification of accuracy. The method also includes storing a verified set of questions in the document. The verified set of questions includes the candidate question.

Abstract: A recommender system for recommending items to a user based on geo-Tagged information related to him, in which items associated with a GeoTag are stored in a database. Feedback regarding the various items is obtained from the user and the provided rating of items is propagated to closely located items based on their associated GeoTags. A user-to-user similarity matrix is calculated and a predicted score is assigned for each user and item, using a recommendation server. All the items in the catalog of items are sorted according to their predicted scores as calculated for the user, and all items that have been already rated by the user are filtered out. Then, items from the catalog of items are presented to the user, according to their scores.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed wherein a data collection server performs a database dump to a network server. The dumped database provides some item subject identification data, such as place and date, but need not contain any. A scanning program checks through the dumped database items seeking for other filtering information and saving that information with the database item in association with which it was discovered to provide an improved database. A user can select one or more subject categories from the improved database and select filters to refine down what Items are displayed in a timeline 94 according to filter categorized. The user can manipulate, introduce and change items within a timeline to the user's choice. The user can communicate their selection to others.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for generating address component synonyms. In one aspect, a method includes determining that a plurality of addresses cannot be geocoded by a geocoding system. Variants of the addresses that can be geocoded by the geocoding system are generated, wherein each variant of a respective address lacks a removed term. Name terms for each variant are provided by the geocoding system. Each removed term is associated with name terms received for all variants that lack the removed term, including determining, for each associated name term of each removed term, a count of the number of variants for which the geocoding system provided the name term. Whether a name term is an address term synonym for a removed term is determined based at least in part on the count of the number of variants.

Abstract: Tagging of content items and entities identified therein may include a matching process, a classification process and a disambiguation process. Matching may include the identification of potential matching candidate entities in a content item whereas the classification process may categorize or group identified candidate entities according to known entities to which they are likely a match. In some instances, a candidate entity may be categorized with multiple known entities. Accordingly, a disambiguation process may be used to reduce the potential matches to a single known entity. In one example, the disambiguation process may include ranking potentially matching known entities according to a hierarchy of criteria.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for categorizing search terms. The system accesses search history for the search terms. The system also categorizes each of the search terms based on the number of times that the respective search term appears in the search history. If the number of times the search term appears in the search history exceeds a first threshold, a search result of the search term is determined and the search term is categorized as a type that is provided for registration to a user with recognized association with the search term or a type that is excluded from registration, where the categorizing based on a ratio of a number of times the search result was selected subsequent to receiving the search term to the number of times that the search term appears in the search history.

Abstract: An illustrative embodiment of a computer-implemented method to identify expertise using interaction metrics receives a user identity to form an identified user, receives usage information associated with the identified user to form received information and identifies usage patterns in the received information to form identified usage patterns. The computer-implemented method further applies assessment factors to the identified usage patterns and received information, calculates a ranking for the identified user to form a calculated ranking and assigns the calculated ranking to the identified user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for providing data from a plurality of databases stored on a plurality of disparate servers. A query is received for data from a plurality of databases stored on a plurality of disparate servers. An address for a first server is resolved that stores a first database identified by the catalog field in the query using a logical name-to-connection metadata map. A first sub-query is transmitted to the first server based on the received query, and a first sub-query response is received from the first server. The resolving, transmitting, and receiving are repeated for a second server. The first sub-query response and the second sub-query response are combined to generate a query response according to the received query, and the query response is transmitted.

Abstract: A computer implemented system and method are provided for refining category scores for pages of a sequence of document pages that potentially includes document boundaries. The method uses initial category scores provided by a categorizer that considers one page at a time or concatenated pairs of pages (called bipages). The category scores represent the probability that a page belongs to a particular category. The method uses anisotropic diffusion to refine the initial page category scores using the scores of neighboring pages as a function of the probability that there is a boundary between the pages. The method may be performed iteratively.

Abstract: A software and/or hardware facility is described that enables searches for transient multimedia resources that are contained in real-time multimedia streams. Because real-time data streams are not archived for subsequent access, transient resources contained in the streams are preferably quickly identified, characterized in a database, and indexed so that the facility can locate transient resources that are responsive to search queries. Stream listeners are disclosed that are configured to monitor data streams and identify transient resources within the streams based on associated metadata. Various techniques are disclosed to optimize the operation of the stream listeners. In response to a search query, search results are generated by the facility that include transient multimedia resources that are accessible via a network at the time that the search query is received.

Abstract: File management machines, computer readable media, and methods of file management, are provided. An exemplary file management machine includes a file management server configured to receive or retrieve user files through an electronic communication/computer network to provide categorical organization and establishment of albums. The file management server can also function to create member user and visitor accounts. The visitor accounts can be provided individual custom access by the member user to provide individualized tailored access to a subset of the files uploaded by the member user. The visitor accounts can be used as to gather information about the file unknown to the member user.

Abstract: A method and system for generating a taxonomy for documents from tag data are provided. The method includes obtaining tag data in the form of tags on documents with tag weightings for a document and clustering the tags using the tag weightings for documents, wherein each cluster is an identified subject. The documents are associated with each identified subject and the subjects are compared to identifying relationships between subjects to build a taxonomy of subjects. A tag weighting for a document is the number of times the tag is applied to the document with a user rating of the relevance of the tag to the document. The steps are carried out automatically without user intervention.

Abstract: A method includes the steps of electronically storing a plurality of songs on a server; allowing a first user to select one of the plurality of songs; allowing the first user to play the one of the plurality of songs and record a user-generated track while the one of the plurality of songs is playing; and saving the user-generated track on the server separate from the one of the plurality of songs. Abstract: Methods and systems generate content-categorization hierarchies and assign each content object to a set of nodes in the hierarchies. Each hierarchy includes a series of levels, each level including nodes which represent a categorization. A node in a top level is connected with multiple nodes in a lower level via a direct path. Each content object is assigned to a set of nodes, such that assignment to a lower-level node also results in assignment to each higher-level node in the lower-level node's direct path to a top of the hierarchy. Metadata of the content object is then modified to include a set of tags, each tag being a term from an assigned node. Tags are used to categorize the content object, summarize of the content object, identify recommended content objects, identify content objects responsive to a search query, and/or identify other content objects to supplement the content object.

The additional instance data object may be a revision of the first instance data object, and tracking may occur by back-linking the revision to the first instance data object.

A query-response management server receives a query containing information on a target location from a first client application on a requesting user's requesting device via a network. The query-response management server dynamically retrieves location information and activity information of each of multiple responding users via the network and identifies one or more of the responding users proximal to the target location based on the location information and the activity information. The query-response management server transmits the query to a second client application on a responding device of each of the identified responding users via the network.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to modeling communities associated with groups of data items. Tools are provided to iteratively assign data items to communities and to update topic and participant distribution in the assigned communities. As the distributions are updated, the characteristics of the communities are updated. Each activity area is defined from the perspective of a single user. Participants in a community are connected to a user, but not necessarily to each other. The combination of formations of communities and the statistical aspect of evaluating characteristics of the communities provides a multi-facetted organization of connections between data items and associated participants.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus classifies a piece of content data as a first or second category in response to a user operation while outputting the content data for a predetermined time. When the user operation is not performed from the start of the output of the content data to the termination, the information processing apparatus automatically classifies the content data as a third category. When there is a shortage of the number of pieces of content data classified as the first or second category, the information processing apparatus adds a piece of content data classified as the third category.
