Abstract: A data storage apparatus comprises a USB connector, a USB control circuit, a flash controller, and a flash memory. After the process of formatting the data storage apparatus by a host device, the flash controller forcibly rewrites FAT number data recorded in a bios parameter block area from ‘2’ to ‘1’ at the time of restoration of power supply. Such rewriting of the FAT number data causes the host device to identify the presence of only one FAT area. This arrangement desirably improves the data writing efficiency of the data storage apparatus configured to generate multiple management tables in the formatting process by the host device.

Abstract: A document information processing apparatus is obtained in which there is no need to provide the consistency of management between the instances of documents and their metadata, that is, there is no fear that inconsistency in management might be caused, thereby eliminating the possibility of loading the system, which would otherwise result from the provision of managerial consistency, as well as making it possible to improve their versatility. The apparatus includes a document input and output section that is able to at least input or output a document as an image data, an operation timing detection section that detects predetermined operation timing for the document, a metadata acquisition section that acquires metadata of the document based on the operation timing, and a metadata description section that describes the metadata in a predetermined format based on instance data of the document at predetermined timing with respect to the input or output of the document.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a database server receives a request from a spreadsheet application to open a file with spreadsheet data. The spreadsheet data is stored in one or more relational tables in one or more relational databases that are managed by the database server. In response to the request, the database server generates the file, where generating the file comprises retrieving the spreadsheet data from an XML view that is defined by an XQuery query. When executed, the XQuery query returns the spreadsheet data in an XML spreadsheet format that is understood by the spreadsheet application. The database server provides the generated file with the spreadsheet data directly to the spreadsheet application, where the spreadsheet data as retrieved from the XML view is formatted according to the XML spreadsheet format.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for safely removing a malicious code from a file, or reporting the probable presence of a malicious code when it cannot be removed safely. The method includes: determining whether a file is a document or image file; opening and saving the document file as a new file by using an application associated with the document file to remove a malicious code from the document file, when it is determined that the file is the document file; and converting the image file into a different file format from a present file format and saving the converted image file to remove a malicious code from the image file, when it is determined that the file is the image file.

The ontology data import apparatus comprises: an ontology data format analyzer for analyzing a format of input ontology data, and performing format determination by utilizing an ontology format database which stores formats of those successfully imported ontologies if it is a private unknown format; and an unknown format data importer for separating and importing the data into an ontology database which stores ontologies, in accordance with a result of the format determination by the ontology data format analyzer. Further, the ontology data export apparatus comprises a keyword-based and query-language-combined ontology exporter and an ontology data export format analyzer, and the keyword-based and query-language-combined ontology exporter outputs a query result returned from the ontology database in accordance with the export format returned from the ontology data export format analyzer.

Abstract: Various techniques for providing a Web Service interface to an order management system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a Web Service interface receives a hierarchical property set, which includes properties being input to an order management system. The Web Service interface accesses mapping information, which associates a variable in a flat property set with a hierarchical property set path. The Web Service interface uses the mapping information to convert the hierarchical property set to the flat property set, based upon the mapping information, and then causes the order management system to process the flat property set. The Web Service interface can also use the same mapping information to convert a flat property set generated by the order management system into a hierarchical property set.

Abstract: A method for supporting media data of various coding formats includes converting the received media files of different coding formats into media files of a particular file format where the media files of a particular file format include media data information and index information, determining the corresponding media file according to an operational command from a client, and sending the media data information in the corresponding media file to the client according to the index information in the corresponding media file. The present disclosure may solve a problem in the conventional art that media files of different coding formats have to be stored on different streaming servers which increases the cost of the system and the integration difficulty of the system and cannot realize load balance among the different streaming servers.

The quantizer may be trained with respect to high priority data among the input data and may be configured to partially encode the input data by encoding the high priority data. The side model may be trained jointly with the training of the quantizer and is configured to model low priority data among the input data.

Abstract: In one embodiment the present invention includes a computer-implemented method of converting first metadata to second metadata using a mapping and custom exits. The metadata is at the MI level and the mapping is generated based on information at the M2 level. The custom exits provide programmable mapping rules in addition to the mapping. In this manner, metadata created in one modeling environment may be used in another modeling environment.

Abstract: A database dynamic partial uncompression mechanism determines when to dynamically uncompress one or more compressed portions of a database table that also includes uncompressed portions. A query may include an express term that specifies whether or not to skip compressed portions. In addition, a query may include associated information that specifies whether or not to skip compressed portions, and one or more thresholds that may be used to determine if the system is too busy to perform uncompression. A display mechanism may also determine whether or not to display compressed portions. The uncompression may occur at the database server or at a client. The database dynamic partial uncompression mechanism thus performs dynamic uncompression in a way that preferably uncompresses one or more compressed portions of a partially compressed database table only when the compressed portions satisfy a query and/or need to be displayed.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present inversion relate to a two-pass compression scheme that achieves compression performance on par with existing methods while admitting individual message decompression. These methods provide both storage savings and lower end-user latency. They preserve the advantages of standard text compression in exploiting short-range similarities in data, while introducing a second step to take advantage of long-range similarities often present in certain types of structured data, e.g. email archival files.

A source file including a plurality of data records may be received, each data record comprising a sequence of data segments associated with source data. A target data structure comprising a plurality of target fields to which to import the source data of the source file may be identified. A mapping format comprising associations between each of the data segments for the plurality of data records and a target field of the plurality of target fields. And the source data from each of the data segments of each of the plurality of data records may be imported into the target field associated with each data segment based on the mapping format.

Thus, a change in the property pane is immediately reflected in the view component, and a change in the view component is immediately reflected in the property pane.

Abstract: Format negotiation for media remoting involves at least one media data format. In an example embodiment, a media format negotiation for playing media data is begun between a server and a client. The media data format is transferred from the server to the client. A notification that indicates if an attempt at the client to construct a media topology responsive to the media data format was a success or a failure is transferred from the client to the server. Whether and/or how the media data is to be transferred from the server to the client may be impacted by the notification.

Abstract: A variable is defined by one engineering device. A tag name is assigned to the variable that the other device accesses, and a corresponding table of the tag name and the variable name is created. Further, a tag object is converted to a tag list in a format that can be interpreted by the other device, and the tag list is downloaded to the other device. The tag name of the access from the other device is converted to the variable name with reference to the corresponding table.

Abstract: An application migration planning manager is provided for scanning and reporting compatibility information of stored application files, followed by conversion of selected files from a first application version format to a target application version format. A scanning module scans selected files to determine whether the scanned files are formatted according to application versions that may be incompatible with target application versions. A reporting module reports the compatibility data for the scanned files. If scanned files include multiple versions of a given document or data, the scanned files may be passed to a version extraction module for stripping the files of all but a single version of the given document or data. Each stripped version may be saved as a separate additional file. The version-stripped files and the saved additional files then may be reported back to the reporting module for further processing.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for organizing, authoring and converting different format content files into one or more common output formats which simplifies the entire authoring and production processes. The content files are uploaded to the authoring system and identified. The content files are then sent to a central server and the authoring system relates all the related content files with each other. An embodiment allows the authoring system to populate a reference database with the pertinent information that identifies the relationship between the files. Once the content is produced, identified and stored, a user can then author a collection. The authoring system is located on a central server which contains all of the content and reference databases and performs the content conversion. The authoring system server can be accessed via the Internet or an intranet so the user can access the authoring system from anywhere there is a network connection.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for aggregating and accessing data according to user information are provided. According to one aspect, an interface device for providing data between a first device and a second device comprises an input, an output, logic, and a repository for storing personal data and data associated with one or more users. The input of the interface device receives data in a first format from the first device. The logic receives a data request, identifies a second device for receiving the data, identifies a second format for the second device, and translates the data to the second format. The translated data is then transmitted to the second device via the output. The logic may further collect, aggregate, and transmit the aggregated data to a requesting device. The input may be a product identification input device. The second device may be billed for the data services.

A document processing apparatus handles data acquired from an external apparatus using the mechanism of handling a DOM. Further, using its editing function, the document processing apparatus controls an external apparatus by visualizing data or by modifying a set parameter of an external apparatus, or the like.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system of manipulating the original content of at least one original read-only computer file in a computer file-system in a computer system, where the computer system includes an operating system including a framework for in-line monitoring of accesses to the file-system. In an exemplary embodiment, the method, system, and service include (1) transforming the original content via a non-length-preserving data transformation algorithm, thereby resulting in transformed content, (2) storing the transformed content in a transformed computer file, (3) splitting the transformed computer file into a first file (F13 1) and a second file (F—2), and (4) associating the first file (F—1) with the second file (F—2) in the file-system. In an exemplary embodiment, the non-length-preserving data transformation algorithm includes a length-increasing data transformation algorithm (i.e., encryption).

Abstract: Ensuring that a user obtains a correct version of a file, wherein the file includes a file header section and a data section, is disclosed. Expiration information is inserted in the file header by a first application. The expiration information is extracted from the file header by a second application. An expiration date for the file is determined from the extracted expiration information. The determined expiration date is compared with a comparison date, and use of the file is disallowed if the comparison determines that the file has expired.

Abstract: In one aspect, there is provided a computer-implemented method. The method may include receiving a description of a web service. A serialization framework may be used to convert the received description to the object model associated with the web service by using a layering of the deserialization process (library and metamodel layers) as well as integrating various registry mechanisms such as QName registry for inter-namespace inter-document declarations, namespace serializer registry, and entity container in the serialization framework. The method further includes linking the voice file, the screen capture file, and the meta-file in an association, and storing the voice file, the meta-file, the screen capture file, and the association such that a user may search according to the meta-file, select a meta-file, and play back the associated voice file while displaying the screen capture file.

Abstract: A link destination hypertext is acquired of an original anchor present in a processing range in an original hypertext, and link destination anchor information composed of a pair of a link destination anchor character string and a link destination URL is extracted from the link destination hypertext. An original anchor effective range is determined which serves as a candidate character string range to which a new anchor is added in the original hypertext, a character string present in the original anchor effective range is compared with a character string present in the link destination anchor information, new anchor information is generated which is composed of a pair of a matched ranged character string and a new link destination URL, and a new anchor is attached to the matched range character string of the original hypertext, so as to convert the original hypertext to a new hypertext.

Abstract: Techniques are described for compressing multidimensional datasets. For instance, a compression module obtains lists of indices of data along dimensions of the multidimensional dataset. The compression module calculates lists of offset values from the lists of coordinates. The compression module then performs a statistical redundancy data compression algorithm on the lists of offset values. Because the lists of offset values may contain more repetitious values than the initial lists of coordinates, a compression ratio on the multidimensional dataset may be higher than without first calculating the lists of offset values.

Abstract: A bridging platform bridges between one or more source computer systems, each having respective source data formats and one or more target computer systems. The platform includes a print file input for receiving data input as a form at the source system as a print file comprising layout information for printing. An indexing unit indexes between data within the layout information and a unified index, and recognizes the source format of the currently received data to select the correct index. A mapping unit maps data in the data form layout between the unified index and the target data format to place the data into a form usable by the target system. There is additionally provided a method of providing data to a first computer system which was input to a second computer system via a data form. The data form is not itself compatible with the first computer system. In the method a virtual print file is obtained of the data form.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for a user to test and transfer data from a client's database or network to a host's database or network. In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a user acquires data information from a client. The user uses this information to generate a spreadsheet, and to populate the spreadsheet with assumed values based on the information received from the client. The spreadsheet is configured in a fashion such that it is consistent with the host's database or network. The user requests and receives a test file from the client and uses a developed algorithm, generally in the form of a computer program, to reformat the file so that it is consistent with the host's database configuration. The user determines the consistency between the reformatted file and the host's database by comparing the reformatted file to the previously generated spreadsheet.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for formatting information within a directory tree structure into an encyclopedia-like entry. The method includes performing a search by utilizing a selective one or more search methodologies including keyword search, hierarchical search, dichotomous key search, and parametric search to correlate a search criteria to a searchable database for generating one or more matching items, wherein the searchable database is formatted in the directory tree structure. The directory tree structure includes nodes comprising a collection of related data and branches comprising links between the nodes. Each matching item represents a node from within the directory tree structure. The method further includes selecting one of the matching items, formatting the collection of related data corresponding to the node of the selected matching item into an encyclopedia-like entry, and displaying the encyclopedia-like entry corresponding to the node of the selected matching item.
