Abstract: The present disclosure introduces a method, a system and an apparatus of sending category information. Category information at central data storage media is stored at a category server in the form of one or more files. When the category server receives a category identification from a terminal to request corresponding category attribute information for publishing product information, the category server may inquire and return the requested category information without submitting an inquiry to the central storage media, thereby reducing operational pressure on the central data storage media and improving efficiency of publishing product information.

Abstract: Improved techniques and systems for storage, delivery and acquisition of digital assets stored in cloud data storage. Cloud data storage can be provided by a cloud data repository that is capable of storing digital data for various users. A given user can access cloud data storage from any of his/her authorized client devices via a network. A given client device can access not only locally stored digital assets but also remotely stored digital assets from cloud data storage. In one embodiment, downloads of digital assets resident in cloud data storage to client devices can be managed in view of available network performance. As one example, digital assets of differing quality levels can be downloaded in a manner dependent on network performance. As another example, locally stored digital assets of reduced quality can be upgraded (e.g., replaced) by higher quality versions in a manner dependent on network performance.

The shared lock enables the file handle cache to be concurrently accessed by a content serving system to service content requests. In a second stage of the eviction process, entries in the file handle cache that are marked for eviction are removed while an exclusive lock is maintained on the file handle cache. Abstract: Example apparatus, methods, and computers prevent a split brain scenario in a pair of high availability servers by maintaining single writer access to a resource. One example method includes monitoring control of an arbitration (ARB) block by an active file system manager (FSM). An active file system portmapper (FSMPM) simultaneously requests permission from a standby FSM to restart a dead-man timer. The active FSM attempts to maintain control of the ARB block before expiration of the dead-man timer. If the active FSM is unable to maintain control of the ARB block before expiration of the dead-man timer, a hardware reset of an apparatus running the active FSM is forced. Therefore, the active FSMPM and standby FSM negotiate for additional time to maintain control of the ARB block to maintain single writer access and avoid unnecessary hardware resets.

Abstract: Secure erase of files and unallocated sectors on storage media such that any previous data is non-recoverable. The database contains sets of data patterns used to overwrite the data on different physical media. The software programs manage the overwriting process automatically when a file has been deleted. When de-allocated sectors in the file system are pruned from a file or escaped the file deletion process also finds them. Data will never be found on deleted sectors or on pruned sectors is overwritten.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for group communications using a MULTI-PIPE synthetic file system. A master application creates a multi-pipe synthetic file in the MULTI-PIPE synthetic file system, the master application indicating a multi-pipe operation to be performed. The master application then writes a header-control block of the multi-pipe synthetic file specifying at least one of a multi-pipe synthetic file system name, a message type, a message size, a specific destination, or a specification of the multi-pipe operation. Any other application participating in the group communications then opens the same multi-pipe synthetic file. A MULTI-PIPE file system module then implements the multi-pipe operation as identified by the master application. The master application and the other applications then either read or write operation messages to the multi-pipe synthetic file and the MULTI-PIPE synthetic file system module performs appropriate actions.

Abstract: The invention provides a file sharing system and process for hierarchical tagging with permissions in computer network-based file storage and sharing systems. The file sharing system includes a hierarchical list of tags, a plurality of files, a hierarchical tag management facility and a tag permissions facility. Each of the plurality of files is tagged by one or more tags in the hierarchical list of tags. The hierarchical tag management facility is used to create and manage the hierarchical list of tags. The tag permissions facility is activated when an administrator selects one or more tag(s). The administrator is a user having rights to facilities to configure the file sharing system. The tags permissions facility is used to change permissions for one or more users or groups of users to access a plurality of files tagged with the selected tag(s).

Abstract: Multiple servers sharing a distributed file system are used to perform copies of regions of a source file in parallel from a source storage unit to corresponding temporary files at a destination storage unit. These temporary files are then merged or combined into a single file at the destination storage unit in a way that preserves the inode structure and attributes of the source file. A substantial speedup is obtained by copying regions of the file in parallel.

Abstract: Method and systems for synchronizing files on a target storage medium with files on a source storage medium, where the target storage medium is divided into pages of a given size. If a file on the target storage medium has been modified compared to a corresponding file on the source storage medium, the page(s) involved are marked as free and all files that are stored in whole or in part on the page(s) receive a status of “to be copied to target storage medium”. For each page of the target storage medium that is marked as free, a selection is made from the files having such a status by repeatedly selecting the relatively largest file not yet selected that can be accommodated on the page, taking into account earlier files selected for the page, and for each page, copying the selection for that page to the target storage medium.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods, systems, and computer program products for managing data within a file system. In embodiments, the method includes determining the location of data within a file to be modified, modifying the data within the file, and adjusting a pointer to point to the data block containing the modified data. The data within a file may be modified by deleting data from the file or inserting new data into the file. New data may be inserted into a file by writing the data into new data blocks and then adjusting the pointers to point to the location of the new data blocks. An example method may also include determining whether data blocks are incomplete blocks and identifying the incomplete blocks by negating the value of the pointers to those blocks.
