Abstract: A system and method for directing download and execution of an application. A runtime engine receives an identifier of a block of shared memory from a directing process. The shared memory stores a map indicating which portions of an application file have been stored in a local copy of the application file. The runtime engine also receives an instruction from the directing process to execute the local copy when the local copy stores less than the entire application file. As the application executes, the runtime engine identifies requests from the application to access portions of the local copy and uses the map to determine whether the requested portions have been stored in the local copy. If the requested portions are not stored in the local copy, the runtime engine prevents the executing application from accessing the local copy until the map indicates the requested portions have been stored therein.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide an approach for protecting and restoring data within a networked (e.g. cloud) storage computing environment through asynchronous replication and remote backup of data and its associated metadata. Under embodiments of the present invention, data backup and recovery functionality provides data backups by detecting incremental updates to the data and its associated metadata at specific points in time determined by policies. The policies are configurable based on user requirements. Multiple copies of the data backups can be made and stored in separate compressed files at backup/disaster recovery locations. The backups of data and its associated metadata, which includes file system configuration information can be used to restore the state of a computer file system to that of a given point-in-time. Accordingly, a data protection approach is disclosed for protecting data at both the file system level and application level.

Abstract: A technique for restoring file systems by applying full and incremental backups together while streaming them from multiple devices provides a faster system restore from a full backup where incremental backups must also be applied. A first storage device streams the full backup while at least one second storage device streams at least one incremental backup. As files are detected in the incremental backup, they are written instead of the corresponding file in the full backup. Incremental backups can be pre-merged to reduce their number to one less than a number of storage devices available to stream the backups, so that the full backup can be streamed along with the pre-merged incremental backup(s) to restore the file system.

In some embodiments, a file system can issue one or more commands to control circuitry of a NVM, which can indicate whether a transaction is journaled or non-journaled. This way, the control circuitry can maintain a list of journaled transactions and corresponding LBA(s). By keeping track of journaled transactions, the control circuitry can ensure that sync points are not prematurely erased during a garbage collection process. In addition, upon detecting device failure events, the control circuitry can roll back to sync points corresponding to one or more journaled transactions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of a device that transfers files and performs file browsing using an ad hoc file sharing service is described. In an exemplary method, the device transmits an advertisement of the ad hoc file sharing service to each of one or more of other devices. The transmitted advertisements each include a user identity of the user associated with the first device. Furthermore, access to the ad hoc file sharing service is granted on a per-user basis. The device establishes a connection with each of the other devices and transfers files with each of the plurality of other devices.

Where there is a match, the metadata for the received file is examined to determine if the received file was independently created from the existing file with matching content signature. If the metadata confirms the independent creation, a control action is taken.

The private information is uploaded from the local storage to an externally accessible information source that is accessible by the other users. A request from a user to access the private information is received by the owner, who determines whether to allow access the private information. If so, the owner sends a private information sharing authorization to a collaboration orchestrator, which retrieves the private information from the external source and provides the private information to the user. The owner optionally requests to collaborate with the user before deciding whether to allow access to the private information. One or both of the identities of the owner and user can remain anonymous until agreeing on revealing identities. A system and program product is also provided.

If the content is discardable content, the content is divided into a plurality of discardable data objects, each associated with at least one type of discarding priority data. Management of discardable objects may include selection and deletion of discardable objects based on discarding priority data, as well as further subdivision of existing discardable objects, to maintain a desired amount of free space on the storage device. An implementation of the file operation can be selected amongst different implementations of the file operation that maps to the identified attribute. Abstract: A system and method is described for managing data objects in a fixed-content storage system. In one embodiment, differenced objects are created when an object stored in a fixed-content storage system is edited. The edits to the original object may represent a small change in the original object, but because the stored original object is immutable it is not possible to simply overwrite the small portion that is edited. In order to store the edited data without requiring duplication of existing data, a new object is created that references both the original object and the edited data. The metadata of the new object includes information relating to the offset and the size of the edited data so that the edited data is accessed instead of the corresponding portion of the original object.

When the package is to be used on a local machine, placeholder files may be created on that machine, which are to be populated by the package's contents at a later time. The content of a repository provided by different parties (e.g., vendor, partner, customer, user, etc.) is separated.
