Abstract: An identification system that may be used in heterogeneous computing environments provides a fail-free path to providing identifiers from a single canonical namespace. Objects or gateways requiring an identifier for access are accessed using an identifier for the canonical namespace. If an entity requests access using an identifier from another namespace, an external database is consulted to determine if a mapping exists for the identifier to another identifier the canonical namespace. If no mapping exists, or the external database is unavailable, then an identifier is automatically generated in the canonical namespace and is used for the access. An internal database is updated with the automatically generated identifier, providing a mechanism to add mappings without administrative intervention. To access resources requiring an identifier from another particular namespace, a canonical namespace identifier may be mapped to another identifier in the particular namespace, or a generic identifier may be used.

Abstract: Techniques for constructing query operations associated with a report specification are described. The query operations may include a mixture of multidimensional operations and relational operations. The application of the query operations are sequenced with the computing device to reduce or eliminate certain complexities and ambiguities during generation of reports, thereby providing an improved experience for user. For example, any multidimensional rollup operation may be applied to the multidimensional representation of the data within a first timeframe and that any aggregation operation and second level filtering are applied within a second timeframe subsequent to the first timeframe. A report may be output based on a resultant data set produced by application of the query operation in accordance with the sequencing.

Abstract: Techniques for constructing query operations associated with a report specification are described. The query operations may include a mixture of multidimensional operations and relational operations. Abstract: A method for automatically updating a filter logic expression representing a Boolean filter comprising a plurality of search conditions is disclosed. The method includes receiving a first indication to remove a first search condition from a condition list comprising search conditions. Each search condition is associated with an identifier and the first search condition is associated with a first identifier, and the search conditions are listed in sequential order according to the associated identifier. In response to receiving the first indication, a second search condition associated with a second identifier that sequentially follows the first identifier is identified, and the second search condition is reassociated with a third identifier that immediately precedes the second identifier. A filter logic expression comprising a plurality of identifiers and operators and representing a Boolean filter is then modified by automatically replacing any reference to the second identifier with the third identifier.

Abstract: Techniques for distributing information over a network having a database in data communication with said network include a method that records in the database a plurality of computer readable profiles. Each computer readable profile corresponds to one of multiple users of the network. One of the computer readable files includes a query term that is associated with it. Generated on a common user interface are both perceivable stimuli in response to activity on said network of users corresponding to subgroup of the plurality of computer readable profiles, and information corresponding to computer readable profiles of the subgroup. The corresponding users of the subgroup possess knowledge related to the query term. A region of the user interface in which the perceivable stimuli is present defines an activity stream region. A region of the user interface in which said information is present defines a connections region of the user interface.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for generating and retrieving content in a computing device by operating a computing device, determining a location of the computing device and a place mark corresponding to the location is tagged to content.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for identifying a new set of media items in response to an input set (or “query set”) of media items and knowledge base metrics. The system uses a knowledge base consisting of a collection of mediasets. Various metrics among media items are considered by analyzing how the media items are grouped to form the mediasets in the knowledge base. Such association or “similarity” metrics are preferably stored in a matrix form that allows the system to efficiently identify a new set of media items that complements the input set of media items.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a personal information profile is constructed for a user having a collection of information items. The personal information profile comprises one or more information topics, and each information topic comprises one or more information items. Each information topic has an interesting score, which indicates a level of interest the user has in the information topic. In one embodiment, a social network is inferred among a group of users, each having a personal information profile. A connection exists between every two users that share at least one common-interest information topic, indicated by their respective personal information profiles.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing an overview of user comments are disclosed. In one example, the method includes receiving the user comment, processing words in the user comments by comparing each of the words in the user comments with a plurality of words in a wordlist, determining whether each word from the wordlist is used in the user comments, calculating statistics on the user comments based on a number of times each word from the wordlist is used and transmitting the statistics for display to a user.

Abstract: A nonlinear revision control system for images is designed with the common digital editing and sketching workflows in mind. DAG (directed acyclic graph) is used as the core structure and DAG nodes represent editing operations, and DAG edges indicate the corresponding spatial, temporal and semantic relationships. DAG is visualized in RevG (revision graph), which provides not only a meaningful display of the revision history, but also an intuitive interface for common revision control operations such as review, replay, diff, addition, branching, merging, and conflict resolving. Beyond revision control, the system also facilitates artistic creation processes in common image editing and digital painting workflows. A prototype system has been built upon GIMP, an open source image editor, and demonstrates its effectiveness through a formative user study and comparisons with alternative revision control systems.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example network device having a controller to receive multiple streams of content for portions of a multimedia work, perform a high level analysis for features in each of the streams for the multimedia work, perform a specialized analysis on the portion having a detected general feature to generate a content analysis output, correlate the content analysis output with other content analysis of the multimedia work, and output a weighted content description based on the correlation function. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A representative parameterized query in a second database query language is generated from a parameterized query in first database query language. By randomly generating a query in the first database query language, translating this query into the second database query language, and then identifying locations of relevant parameters in the translated query, parameter placeholders can then be substituted at the identified locations to provide a parameterized query in the second database query language. A representative parameterized query in the second database query language can be selected by randomly generating multiple parameterized queries and applying statistical methods including Monte Carlo methods.

The example method may also include analyzing the event to extract information about the user and processing a subsequent event in accordance with the extracted information about the user.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with bi-temporal user profiling are described. An event is detected that occurs at a valid event time. In response to the event, a repository is accessed that stores data describing one or more user profiles that include a profile record valid time period specifying a time at which the given profile record is valid. A prior user profile record is retrieved that has a profile record valid time period that overlaps with the valid event time. An updated user profile record is created based, at least in part, on the event. The updated user profile record is saved with the valid event time demarcating the start of a profile valid time period. The prior user profile with the valid event time demarcating the end of the profile record valid time period is also saved for subsequent processing.

The controller includes a filter manager configured to store data format information and a filtering condition provided from a host; one or more stream filters configured to search and project data stored in the one or more memories in parallel in response to a control of the filter manager to produce searched and projected data; and a merge filter configured to merge the searched and projected data of the one or more stream filters in response to the control of the filter manager.

Abstract: A system (100) and method (400) for creating collaborative tags is provided. During the presentation of content, a tagging device (101) receives user input (305) corresponding to the content. The tagging device (101) associates the user input (305) with metadata (306) identifying the content. The content itself is not attached to the tag (300). A distribution filter (307) can be attached to the tag (300), as can a content level classification (308). The tag (300) is then transmitted to a server (107) for distribution in accordance with the distribution filter (307). A subsequent user can request the tags for presentation with later content.

Abstract: Disclosed are electronic systems and techniques for filtering data comprising content requested from a variety of sources, and tracking which of the sources supplied the data and a category that classifies the content. The filtering may comprise implementing a variety of filtering techniques to acquire the content. In this regard, the content can be stored and grouped with other content related to the content in data storage, while discarding a subset of the data not containing the content.

Abstract: Systems and methods for trend detection using frequency analysis in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention, trend detection includes generating a discrete time sequence of word counts for a target word using a trend detection device, performing frequency analysis of the discrete time sequence of word counts to determine contributions of frequency components within different frequency ranges to the discrete time sequence of word counts using the trend detection device, and detecting that the target word is a trending keyword based upon at least the frequency analysis of the discrete time sequence of word counts for the target word using the trend detection device.

Abstract: Content items may be segmented and labeled by a theme to provide information, such as audio or video, with greater functionality, accuracy and speed. The segments and other related information may be stored and made accessible to users through, for example, a search service and/or an on-demand service. Also provided is automatic segmentation that may include any one of receiving a textual description of a content item, determining themes within the textual description, determining relevance intervals corresponding to terms of the theme, filtering and/or merging the relevance intervals, and determining a total interval for each theme that represents one or more contextually-coherent segments of the content item.

Abstract: A system for analyzing performance data associated with a mail processing device includes a reporting module operable to receive, over a network, first data related to the operation of a mail processing device at one of a plurality of mail processing sites, wherein each of the plurality of mail processing sites is associated with a database accessible over the network, store the first data in a database associated with the mail processing site of the mail processing device, receive, over the network, second data identifying filter criteria for the first data, filter, using a processor, the first data with the second data, generate, using a processor, a report based on the filtered first data, and communicate the report over the network.

Abstract: A method for constructing a rich query from a selected semantic entity included in a page, the method comprising: receiving user input identifying a semantic entity for which contextual information is desired; identifying context information associated with the selected semantic entity; encoding a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) using the semantic entity an the identified context information; and transmitting the encoded URL to a search server.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for segmenting a database based, at least in part, on a prevalence associated with known objects included in the database. In operation, a database including a plurality of known objects is identified. Additionally, the database is segmented into a plurality of segments. Furthermore, each of the plurality of known objects are assigned to one of the plurality of segments, based at least in part on a prevalence associated with each of the plurality of known objects.

Abstract: A system and method for display of graphical components on a user interface. Multiple components may be displayed on a graphical user interface an active dashboard. Each component is a graphical representation of a report generated from plurality of data fields stored in objects on a database. At least some of the reports are generated from different data models. The displayed components are filtered on the basis of at least one data field that is a common field among the different data models.

Abstract: A method and system memory to store a logical process model defining a logically structured series of process activities in a process, and Service Level Agreement (SLA) profile information defining a pre-defined plurality of SLA profiles which are potentially applicable to respective process instances. Each SLA profile comprises at least one performance metric with respect to the process and/or at least one of the process activities. A rules engine queries case data with respect to a particular process instance, and automatically determines an applicable SLA profile based on the case data. The applicable SLA profile is then applied to the particular process instance, and may be altered during performance of the process instance in response to case data changes.

Abstract: Provided is a system event logging system for recoding a log of system events which relate to a process being monitored, the logging system having the aim of selectively recording system events that are necessary for purposes such as the reproduction of operations and excluding system events that are outside the intended purpose. Flag conditions and flag operation instructions are provided for each of the filters in a filter list, and the system event logging system uses the flag conditions as the conditions for applying the filters. When applying the filters, the logging system operates the flags according to the flag operation instructions. Thus, interrelated operation between the filters can be achieved by means of the flags, and also, interrelated operation can be achieved by means of the flags even between the processes performed for the system events.

The method includes receiving one or more entity word—topic word pairs and identifying one or more entity words of the candidate document and topic words. The method also includes determining whether to add the candidate document into a filtered document set using the entity words and topic words in the given entity word—topic word pairs and the identified entity words and topic words in the candidate document. The method further includes adding the candidate document into a filtered document set in response to determining that the candidate document should be added into the filtered document set.

The enhanced index can be metadata associated with an enhanced cluster. The enhanced cluster can be a document cluster associated with the metadata. The enhanced cluster can be aggregated into a merged document. The merged document can be a document including the enhanced cluster contents. The ranking algorithm can be executed on the merged document to obtain a final ranking of content within the single document.

Abstract: Enterprise systems, methods and computer program products are disclosed for providing bulk create (insert), update and delete operations for table inheritance in an enterprise resource system using an object-oriented language supporting polymorphism. The computer implemented method comprises receiving a request for one of a create, update and delete operation with respect to data of first and second tables of an inheritance table hierarchy; creating a temporary table comprising a surrogate key and a record identifier; establishing a filter condition with fields from different tables in table inheritance; and one of creating, updating and deleting data from the different tables in table inheritance according to the filter condition. The process is implemented on an application object server including a compiler for the object-oriented language, a kernel instance and a data access layer.

Abstract: A system and method are described for progressively efficiently filtering and gathering netflow data. Flow records are analyzed to find out which keys (addresses, conversations, protocols etc) meet defined filter parameters. The netflow data is processed and a data structure of fixed size is continually maintained in order to facilitate efficient retrieval of the gathered netflow data.

Abstract: A method and system for narrowing down generic searches using related search terms is provided. An example system comprises a communications module, a listings retrieval module, a supplemental search term generator, and a filter generator. The communications module may be configured to receive a user-supplied search term. The listings retrieval module may be configured to retrieve, based on the user-supplied search term, one or more listings. The supplemental search term generator may be configured to identify, based on frequency of appearance of different words in the titles of the retrieved listings, a supplemental search term. The filter generator may be configured to generate, based on the supplemental search term, a list of filters to be presented to a user for selection.

Abstract: A machine may be configured to access an image of an item described by a description of the item. The machine may determine an image quality score of the image based on an analysis of the image. A request for search results that pertain to the description may be received by the machine, and the machine may present a search result that references the item's image, based on its image quality score. Also, the machine may access images of items and descriptions of items and generate a set of most frequent text tokens included in the item descriptions. The machine may identify an image feature exhibited by an item's image and determine that a text token from the corresponding item description matches one of the most frequent text tokens. A data structure may be generated by the machine to correlate the identified image feature with the text token.

Abstract: Provided is a technique that can control a federated search apparatus to prevent transmission of access account information, which is not necessary to carry out security trimming, to search servers in the execution of federated search. The federated search apparatus according to the present invention includes an account correspondence table describing a correspondence between a first access account that issues a first search request for requesting federated search and second access accounts that issue a second search request to the search apparatuses. The federated search apparatus specifies the second access account corresponding to the first access account in accordance with the description of the account correspondence table, designates, as a search condition, a range that can be accessed by the second access account, and issues the second search request to the search servers.

Abstract: A method for data access includes defining an ontology (26) pertaining to a given sphere of knowledge. A computer (22) receives a search query generated using the ontology and provides to a user of the computer at least one document in response to the query. The computer receives tags that the user has associated with data elements in the at least one document and automatically updates the ontology responsively to the tags.

Abstract: A system and method for filtering keywords. The method may include receiving a first set of keywords. The method may include determining a first set of numbers associated with a first metric relating to the first set of keywords and a second set of numbers associated with a second metric relating to the first set of keywords. The method may include receiving at least one metric rule relating to the first and the second metric. The method may include determining a respective combination number for each keyword in the first set of keywords based on the first set of numbers, the second set of numbers, and the metric rule. The method may include filtering the first set of keywords based on the respective combination numbers to produce a second set of keywords.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for searching clinical terminology databases, and more specifically systems and methods for searching structured terminology databases that possess structures for terminology synonyms and semantic parent concept relationships—such as the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine—Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) data standard—are provided. This involves interfacing with the database using an application program interface to enable communication between the database and a search module, and searching the database using the search module to generate an ordered list of database records by defining a search string, retrieving database records from the database by matching terms associated with concepts in the database to the search string, and retrieving the database records for the concepts associated with the matched terms. The retrieved results can be ordering based upon a relevancy criterion.

Abstract: Data is received by a first device from a first source, where the data contains a link to a particular web page. Responsive to the data, a repository of syndicated content items associated with web pages is accessed. If a particular syndicated content item associated with the particular web page is in the repository, the particular syndicated content item is retrieved and provided to a second device for display at the second device.

Abstract: This specification describes technologies relating to collaborative filtering, such as collaborative filtering using a spatial-aware social graph. In at least one aspect, a method includes: receiving data including objects related to a social graph; identifying a proper subset of the objects based on their relationships with respect to the social graph; applying one or more spatial queries against the proper subset of the objects; and using a result of the one or more spatial queries, applied against the proper subset of the objects, as a feature in a recommendation process. In another aspect, a system includes: a user interface device; and one or more computers configured and arranged to provide a user a recommendation, with respect to objects, based on social and spatial information for the user associated with a spatial-aware social graph.

Abstract: A commanding interface can provide an efficient computer interface for users of assistive technology by focusing on the tasks that an application can perform, rather than on the interface the application exposes. The commanding interface can provide a search mechanism that searches for and presents functions or functionality in response and dynamically updates results as the search query is entered. Additionally, the commanding interface can prioritize search results based on contextual data, including prior search terms, prior actions, and the context of the user's interaction with the application program. The commanding interface can enable the user to filter the functions and functionality presented through the commanding interface according to types of user-performed activities for which such functions would be utilized, patterns, or heuristically determined associations.

Abstract: In a method for processing test result reports using a computing device, the test result report is read from an original storage section of a database of the computing device. The method generates a classified report by classifying the test result report into a classification storage section of the database according to the file name of the test result report. The method further generates a filtrated reports by filtrating specific fields in the classified report according to predetermined important fields, and stores the filtrated report into a filtration storage section of the database. The method generates a desired result report by adding a parameter field into the filtrated report to store test parameters of the test result report, and stores the desired result report in a result storage section of the database.

Abstract: Provided are techniques for generating a Graphical User Interface (GUI) based on relationships between tables identified in a data model and displaying the GUI to enable selection of the tables and columns in the tables. Via the GUI, a selection of at least one of the tables and a selection of at least one of the columns in the at least one of the selected tables are received. A statement is generated based on the selected tables and the selected columns. The statement is executed to obtain results. The results are processed to create a data object having a hierarchical structure that indicates the relationships between the tables.

Abstract: An approach is provided for cleaning data sets for a search process. The cleanup platform determines one or more reference documents associated with at least one region. Next, the cleanup platform processes and/or facilitates a processing of the one or more reference documents to determine a frequency distribution of one or more candidate stop words with respect to the at least one region. Then, the cleanup platform causes, at least in part, selection of one or more stop words applicable to the at least one region from the one or more candidate stop words based, at least in part, on one or more frequency distribution criteria. Additionally, the cleanup platform processes and/or facilitates a processing of at least one data set associated with a search process to generate at least one enhanced data set by filtering the one or more stop words from the at least one data set.

Abstract: A computer system provides a unified view of data for different organizations of a business. The accessed data may be distributed over different data sources that may include a data warehouse, operational databases (e.g., systems of records supporting different functions), production servers, and external data sources. Access to one or more of the data sources may be restricted based on a user profile. Data may also be accessed by directly tapping into the systems of record of a business to potentially reduce the duplication of data and provide the data in a timelier basis. Data may be obtained from the systems of record by pinging selected systems using an application programming interface and may be stored in a computing cloud that is not constrained to a particular physical asset of the business. In addition, the accessed data may be analyzed and presented differently based on the different lines of business.

Abstract: A content player receives user-specific information from different users and associates the information with content. Subsequently, the player receives a request to perform a content-altering operation. In response, the player performs the operation such that the information for the requesting user is affected, but not the information for other users. The information may include a placeholder, an indication as to whether the content and/or the entire content has been accessed, a protection status indicating whether or not the content can be deleted, and so on. The information may be added to and/or configured to accompany and/or otherwise be associated with the content. The player may identify the user so that different information for different users can be associated with the content for the respective user, such as by prompting the user to select an identifier from a list or perform a “log in.

Abstract: An automated system and a method are described for providing a personalized set and stream of content from the system to a user of an end-user device. The content may include multiple items of various sorts and media types, including textual items, video, audio and/or proprietary or composite content elements that originate from various sources. The content may be consumed by the end-user or by multiple applications on behalf of the end-user, whether on an end-user device or on a server for further processing. The system filters the content made available to end-users in a manner unique to each end-user. Filtering is based on characteristics associated with the content element, the originating source and author, and unique preferences relevant to the end-user. Filtering can be done in real time or be based on prior processing.
