Abstract: Ranking database query results using an efficient method for N-ary summation is provided. Such operation, referred to herein as “mid-fold N-ary summation” significantly reduces costs of computation for large numbers of queries, as are common in enterprise database applications. Thus, ranking query results using mid-fold N-ary summation offers improved runtime performance and reduced latency relative to using conventional N-ary summation.

Abstract: An application transfer protocol allows users to find applications relevant to a search query in an application search system. The application transfer protocol is used with an index that maintains a database of applications that includes parameters, such as features and/or content of the application. When a user submits a query, the system determines one or more applications relevant to the search query and implements the application transfer protocol to identify and present results to a user.

Abstract: An ontological information retrieval system is provided. According to an embodiment, the subject ontological information retrieval system can be utilized for computer-aided clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice. In one implementation, a graphical user interface (GUI) is provided, enabling a user to input a query with symptoms determined from a patient, and the system's parser can find instances of the symptoms in a document object model (DOM) tree of the TCM ontological information. Diagnosis based upon the symptoms can be communicated to the user through the GUI. A relevance index (RI) and/or a frequency index (F1) can be further provided for evaluating a diagnosis by comparing the symptoms determined from a patient with the expected symptoms of the diagnosed illness and returning a value based on the number of matched symptoms, or a weighted index of matched symptoms.

Abstract: A method of operating a computerized document search system where information is matched against a database containing documents in response to user queries includes receiving a query identifying a source document that has information content related to the documents within the database. Important words within the source document are detected automatically, where at least one of the important words has been processed using at least two dictionary functions consisting of Derived Words, Acronym, Word Capitalization, and Hyphenation. An importance value is generated for important words in a processed document using a WordRatio and at least one of a selected set of values. A score is generated for a processed document based partly on the importance value of at least one important word in that document. A document list is created for identifying documents that are related to a source document.

Abstract: The author ranking technique described herein is a technique to rank authors in social media systems along various dimensions, using a variety of statistical methods for utilizing those dimensions. More particularly, the technique ranks authors in social media systems through a combination of statistical techniques that leverage usage metrics, and social and topical graph characteristics. In various exemplary embodiments, the technique can rank author authority by the following: 1) temporal analysis of link sharing in which authority is computed based on a user's propensity to provide early links to web pages that subsequently become popular; 2) topical authority based on the author's links and content updates in specific topic areas; and 3) popularity and influence based on nodal properties of authors.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed to implementing a multi-tenant architecture in an analytics platform. In an embodiment, a computer system receives a user's login credentials at a multi-tenant system. The multi-tenant system includes multiple different tenants, each of which includes various users. The multi-tenant system includes multiple instantiated partition instances configured to store various types of analytics information for each tenant. The computer system determines which partition instance the user belongs to, so that analytics information collected for the user is stored in the determined partition instance. The computer system collects analytics information based on the user's interaction with the multi-tenant system and stores the collected analytics information in the determined partition instance. The multi-tenant system is also extended for implementation in a cloud computing system.

The item identifiers may be in the form of text. An initial display is generated which includes one or more parts of the item identifiers. Selection of the one or more parts may be made and results in the generation of a display of a further one or more parts for selection. The further one or more parts may be selected in order to add to the selected one or more parts to build a larger part or whole of an item identifier. Selection from a large list of item identifiers may be carried out in a relatively short time period.
