Abstract: An electronic device provides, to a user, a user-curated playlist, the user-curated playlist including an ordered set of media items that were added by the user. While providing a first media item in the ordered set of media items, the electronic device receives a first user input selecting an option to include recommended media items in the user-curated playlist. In response to the first user input, the electronic device updates the user-curated playlist to include a first recommended media item, the first recommended media item selected without user intervention based at least in part on attributes of the user-curated playlist. The first recommended media item is positioned in the user-curated playlist in between media items that were added to the ordered set of media items by the user.

Abstract: A plurality of music playlists created on a content sharing platform and having rankings are identified. A plurality of popular external search queries submitted via one or more search engine platforms external to the content sharing platform are identified. A subset of the plurality of music playlists that matches any of the plurality of popular external search queries is determined, and rankings of the determined subset of music playlists are improved. The personalized music recommendations for the user are created based on rankings of the plurality of music playlists, and the personalized music recommendations are provided for presentation to the user.

Abstract: An interoperability system abstracts the protocols used by multiple network applications into an interoperability framework, thereby allowing the network applications to interoperate with each other and/or with modules for providing enhanced functionalities. The interoperability framework includes a number of adapters that modularize the components needed for interoperation and abstracts content from the underlying protocols and procedures used by the network applications. The interoperability framework includes a resource control that enables the network applications to access shared resources, such as data and content used by the network applications, thus allowing the applications to interoperate and for functionality enhancements to be added.

Abstract: A media player monitors a media feed (e.g., a web feed) for availability of newly published content available over a network. Via the feed, the media player can receive notification that certain retrievable content (e.g., the same content or substantially similar content) is available from multiple different locations over the network. The notification can include multiple pointers for use by the media player to retrieve the content. For example, a first pointer of the multiple pointers can identify a first remote location over the network in which to retrieve the content, a second pointer can identify a second remote location over the network in which to retrieve the content, and so on. The media player can have an associated download manager that selects an appropriate one of the pointers to retrieve the content depending on which of one or more download by applications resides on a computer system.

According to one embodiment, a method initiates with retrieving metadata associated with audio files contained in a music library of a user. User-defined interactions with the audio files are parsed from the metadata. The user-defined interactions are analyzed to determine songs, artists, albums, or genres of interest to the user. Then information related to the songs, artists, albums, or genres of interest is retrieved from an information source. The related information is presented on an interface page for accessing the music library.

For hosted information that is independently available, the entity detector independently accesses such information and identifies entities. For information that has defined potential entities, such as entertainment or lifestyle information such defined potential entities are provided to the entity detector to verify, with reference to the search engine database, whether they are entities. Once entities have been identified, a related task generator, with reference to the search engine database, identifies tasks that are related to the identified entities. The music providing system includes a communication module which receives a request signal including channel information and a request signal input time point from a music providing apparatus which receives a music broadcasting from a music broadcasting station server, provides the received music broadcasting to a user, and inputs the request signal for music which is being broadcasted on a specific channel being listened to by the user. The workstation includes a workstation management module configured to detect the launch or request to access a network by an application. A workstation application server receives data associated with the application from the workstation. The application server module can determine one or more policies or categories to associate with the application by referencing an application inventory database. Once the application server module has the category or policy, it forwards a hash/policy table to the workstation management module. Upon receipt of the hash/policy table, the workstation management module applies the policy that is associated with the application to control network access by the application.

Abstract: The present invention is intended to automatically construct a database of contents data which are distributed over plural reproducing apparatuses and search this database on the basis of user's fragmentary memory. A contents sharing management system practiced as one embodiment of the invention comprises an episode server installed at user's home and plural reproducing apparatuses including a component stereo set, portable player, portable wireless terminal, and MD player, which are interconnected in a wireless manner based on wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth. Abstract: Several methods and systems to generate a playlist based on a frequency ratio are disclosed. In one aspect a method includes, presenting a list of a seed data to a user of a music device, selecting a portion of the seed data based on a preference of a user, and determining an identity of a primary song based on a match between the primary song and the preference of the user. The method also includes providing the user streaming access to the primary song in a database and determining a secondary song based on the primary song. A correlation between the secondary song and the primary song is determined based on an algorithm and the user is provided streaming access to the secondary song. A frequency ratio of the primary song and the secondary song is automatically adjusted in responsive to a selection through a selection tool.

Each audio file will preferably be analyzed by the instant invention, with the analysis results being used to position an icon representative of that file within an on-screen 2D- or 3D-display. Methods will be provided that allow user to preview and use individual audio items that are displayed on-screen. Selection of an on-screen icon will be used to initiate playback of the associated audio file, insert that file into a playlist, incorporate that file into a multimedia work, etc.

IN some embodiments superior rights holders such as a publisher can be compensated directly forgoing compensating intermediaries or inferior rights holders or performing rights organizations. Thus, the disclosed arrangements can calculate compensation amounts superior rights holder and a deduction amount for the compensation due to the inferior rights holder. Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a personalized radio channel playlist by time division multiplexing songs from multiple received channels from one or more broadcast source streams in a queue. Users can specify favorite channels for building their personal playlists, or multiple default playlist channels can be provided by genre. If matches are found, the channel carrying the favorite is extracted and added to the playlist. Channel searching for matches involves monitoring real-time song and artist labels for all channels carried in a separate data channel. Preview times can vary depending on the size of the playlist or number of channels used. During a preview of a segment, users can, opt to listen to the full song or back up in the playlist to listen to a previous song. Connectivity options and web interfaces are provided to facilitate transfer and sharing of customization parameters for personalized radio configuration.

Abstract: An improved user interface for a home media delivery system is disclosed. The system comprises a media delivery unit, a removable media storage unit and a remote control device. In one embodiment, the media delivery system is a home audio system and the removable media storage unit is an optical disk. The invention is characterized by that metadata of the media assets stored in the removable storage unit is read out by the delivery unit after media storage unit is connected to the delivery unit. The metadata is transmitted wirelessly to the remote control device and is displayed on its display in a user selectable form. The user's selection is then transmitted to the delivery unit for directing the operation of the playback. The invention is further characterized by that the metadata may take a hierarchical form for at least two levels.

Abstract: The present invention includes a method of navigation/manipulation and display of media or data residing on a media player type device or other limited display system. The method includes a non-hierarchical intelligent associative reorganization of the media player database as stored on the media device. The method implements a technique to display the database entries that promotes the application of associative connections by the user to the database entries during the navigation of the database. Therefore, the selection of media objects or data entries that make up a play list as it is generated by the user is constructed using associative connections while the user traverses the non-hierarchical presentation of the database. The present invention also includes a remote control data management system that includes a docking station and a remote control unit that maintain and manipulate metadata in one or more databases even after a media player has been disconnected.

The method includes receiving coupons from vendors, generating indexing information about the received coupons for use with speech searches, integrating the received coupons and respective indexing information into a database accessible through a Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interface (API) as part of a speech search platform for coupons, receiving from a user a natural language query through the speech search platform for coupons, identifying coupons in the database which match the natural language query based on location and a user profile, and transmitting the identified coupons to the user. The method can further include modifying the REST API to include coupon-specific parameters. Identified coupons can be transmitted to the consumer by notifying a coupon issuer that the user is entitled to a discount.

That process requires capturing a tag of the selected musical item, and processing the tag to develop reference key to the same. The second broad portion of the method is retrieving a desired item of stored music from the database. That process calls for capturing a query tag from a user, and processing the query tag to develop a query key to the same. Search queries can be performed using information in real-time metadata tracks such as closed captioning, sub-title, statistical tracks, miscellaneous data tracks. Media streams can also be augmented with additional tracks. The metadata tracks not only allow efficient searching and indexing, but also allow insertion of content specific advertising during appropriate portions of a media stream based on the content of the metadata tracks.
