Abstract: Described is extracting structured information from web pages for use in directly answering queries with data items from the structured data. Users' post-search browsing behaviors (search trails) are treated as implicit labels as to the relevance between web content and user queries, and are used to determine wrappers for extracting structured information. In one implementation, a system identifies websites from web search logs, builds wrappers from users' search trails, filters out bad wrappers (from inconsistent user clicks), and combines structured information from different web sites, e.g., for each query.

Abstract: An invention for dissemination or retrieval of digital resources or online information via context layer or context-level protocols and interfaces is described. According to one embodiment, an interface or protocol that a computer uses to communicate with other computers is associated with a subject matter context. User-level contents or digital resources received across that interface or protocol are then associated with that subject matter context, and the computer may respond accordingly. For instance, a computer may associate a given network port with a subject matter context of shopping, and treat all digital resource requests received on that port as applying to only a shopping subject matter context. A web server may also listen on a network port associated with a subject matter context, thereby contextualizing the overall nature of the website that the web server hosts.

Abstract: Metadata may be stored in, and retrieved from, a scalable, fault-tolerant metadata service. In one example, metadata is divided into partitions, and each partition is served by one or more nodes. For each partition, a first one of the nodes may handle read and write requests, and the other nodes may handle read requests in the event that the first node is down or is experiencing high load. When a request is made with respect to metadata, a metadata server may identify a node, in the partition to which the metadata is assigned, to which the request is to be made. The entity that is making the request then contacts that node, and requests the read or write on the metadata. In a partition, metadata may be replicated between the first node and the other nodes using a log-based replication protocol.

Abstract: This invention discloses how Virtual Database Technology can be used to make disparate data appear to be (or act as) the sort of uniform data one expects to find within a single relational database. In particular, we show how to process queries similar to those one might use in a database, even though the underlying data may be missing some of the capabilities that are required by normal databases. Whereas traditional databases require that all the tuples in a table be stored, our approach allows queries over tables where the tuples are generated as required from the data sources, and may not be stored anywhere. We show how such facilities can be used as a new foundation for Internet search.

Abstract: A method for preventing information inferencing from documents comprises creating a document collection view from the documents, obtaining rules based on information to be hidden, establishing a plurality of levels of the rules, said levels ranging from a shallow level to a deepest level, for each level of the rules, from the shallow level to the deepest level, examining the document collection view in accordance with the level of the rules, when said examining detects inferencing, performing trace and repair on the document collection view, and outputting the document collection view. Examining can be performed using a search engine, a natural language processing engine, and a conceptual inferencability engine. The shallow level can correspond to a search engine, a deep level can correspond to a natural language processing engine, and a deepest level can correspond to a conceptual inferencability engine. The documents can be data in digital form.

Abstract: A computer-implemented process for identifying universal resource locator rewriting rules may receive input of universal resource locators of an application, to form received universal resource locators, may represent the received universal resource locators in a specialized graph and may apply analysis algorithms and heuristics to properties of the specialized graph. The computer-implemented process may further identify universal resource locator rewriting patterns using the specialized graph to form detected patterns and may generate rewrite rules corresponding to the detected patterns.

Abstract: A system is disclosed for data collection, media analysis, and web tracking. The collected data may include a broad search for a reference database and a narrow search for a comparative database. A contact relationship management database is used to store and distribute profiles for individuals and companies. An RSS feed database may update frequently and provide relevant search results. The system may analyze the collected data and tracking of that data. Analysis may be used to identify relevant data. Profiling of users and businesses may be used for targeting and generating profile data that may include specific information for a user or business. Monitoring and/or tracking may be used for identifying changes in data. The system may provide an analysis of impact of an event/source based on user impressions or web hits in view of a particular event/source. The impact may include a social influence value. In another embodiment, a return on investment (“ROI”) in view of the influence is provided.

Abstract: In most of the Internet search operations, unwanted search results can be eliminated to reduce the high volume of the Internet traffic, and make the search operation highly efficient, according to the present invention. The present invention proposes a two step approach. The first step is to achieve the high relevance of the search results by search region restricted search operation. The second step, further adds high degree of relevance to the search results by the contact address correlation with a reliable reference address or the legitimate contact address eliminating the crap and squatter sites from the search result list. The region restricted search does searching in a selected geographical region. Thus the region restricted search operation minimizes the search time and huge volume of Internet traffic, which is likely to impair the overall Internet performance.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for use in higher-order-knowledge-based searching of content available from a network of data-storage devices. In various embodiments, at least one computational expression representative of a relational framework for content is identified and provided to an information retrieval system for use in searching for content desired by a user. The relational framework for content may include rules, expressions, equations, and/or constraints, which bind, relate, or associate certain content with other content. A computational expression may be determined from processing structured data. The structured data may be identified during crawling of a network or may be expressly provided to an extractor. Use of a computational expression by an information retrieval system may more efficiently and accurately return desired content to a user than is possible with traditional information searching methods.

In the data collection process at least one first search query from a first mobile device (1) and a first location indicator indicative of a location of the first mobile device are received and transmitted to at least one database (4), the database adapted for storing a plurality of search queries received from a plurality of mobile devices (1). In a data display process a second location indicator indicative of a location of a second mobile device (2) is received and a request to the database (4) is transmitted.

Abstract: Duplicate documents are detected in a web crawler system. Upon receiving a newly crawled document, a set of documents, if any, sharing the same content as the newly crawled document is identified. Information identifying the newly crawled document and the selected set of documents is merged into information identifying a new set of documents. Duplicate documents are included and excluded from the new set of documents based on a query independent metric for each such document. A single representative document for the new set of documents is identified in accordance with a set of predefined conditions.

Abstract: A user accessing a media service desires to find out more information about the media service by formulating a query, by operation of an input device, where a region of interest of said media service is selected by the user. The query is submitted to other users who are defined by various tiers defined by different types of criteria. The users belonging to such tiers respond back to the query with new information, which is rendered on the media device being used by the user. Such responses are then rendered on the media device of the user. Optionally, a computer assistance mode is operated where keywords are extracted from said communications between users, and such keywords a used to obtain additional results from a resource such as a search engine.

The best mode of the invention is considered to be the use of the invention with social media, such as Facebook, where the mobile station (30) searches for the social media page of the caller based on the Caller ID and displays it to the recipient of the call on the mobile station screen, possibly with other Internet search results. The method and system allow the user to obtain the newest public information about the person who calls him or he decides to call, or any documents that might be intermittent between the people. The Desktop or screen automatically arranges itself to a state in which it is easiest to work during the call, using searches made based on call parameters, such as caller ID. Abstract: A search system with a search engine applies a user search query to an index of the documents stored in a document repository for returning a result set of matching documents to a user. In order to more efficiently access, search and retrieve documents stored in document repositories, one of a document repository and an index thereof or both are partitioned in one or more dimensions, and a partition is configured in a specific dimension according to two or more document attribute values selected from one and the same attribute category. This shall enable a search application to access significantly less data in order to determine a search result and shall specifically improve the efficiency of enterprise search systems in a high degree.
