  • Patent number: 8862740
Abstract: In a network, a user can configure host-level policies usable for load balancing traffic to servers of a domain. A global server load balancing (GSLB) switch provides load balancing to the servers, and is configured with the GSLB host-level policies. Users can define a host-level policy (alternatively or additionally to a globally applied GSLB policy) and apply the host-level policy to hosts in domains configured on the GSLB switch. Thus, the user can enable different policies for different hosts. This allows the user to have the flexibility to control metrics used for selection of a best address for querying clients, as well as the metric order and additional parameters used in the GSLB process, at the host level.

  • Patent number: 8819280
Abstract: Techniques are provided for using the mobility support features of IPv6 to allow client and server nodes to communicate without the continuing intervention of a load-balancing node that selected the server node. A load-balancing node intercepts a TCP SYN packet addressed to a virtual IP address. The load-balancing node selects a server node from among multiple server nodes, and sends the packet toward the server node. The server node sends an IPv6 packet toward the client node. The packet contains a Binding Update option that specifies the virtual IP address as a Home Address. This information causes the client node to replace destination addresses in outgoing IP packets so that packets that the client node would have sent toward the virtual IP address are sent toward the selected server node's IP address instead. Consequently, the IP packets are routed toward the selected server node instead of the load-balancing node.

  • Patent number: 8792474
Abstract: Each of a network fabric controller device and a network fabric forwarder devices includes network connecting hardware and network managing logic. The network connecting hardware of the devices connects them to a singly contiguous network fabric including switching devices that route data between initiator nodes and target nodes and that have routing logic programmable by the controller device. The controller device does not directly route the data themselves. The network managing logic of the devices effects multipaths for transmission of the data through the singly contiguous network fabric from the initiator node to the target nodes via programming of the routing logic of the switching devices.

  • Patent number: 8792503
Abstract: A path selection method, an information processor, a network system, and a path selection program are provided which rapidly determine a path that has no loop when determining the path by using a control server to probabilistically select a pass node. A network having a plurality of paths from a source to a destination is controlled. A node forming the path is selected on the basis of a node-to-node transfer probability, and in the case where the selected node is a node that has already been passed through on the path, the transfer probability is reset such that the selection of the node is suppressed.

Abstract: At a gateway within a network, a message containing content is received. The message conforms to a protocol that specifies a format of the content, the message having been sent from a server outside the network to a client within the network. The message is routed from the gateway to the client. The message is analyzed to determine whether the content is static. Depending on a result of the analyzing, the content is selectively caused to be stored in the format specified by the protocol in a cache within the network.

  • Publication number: 20140156869
Abstract: A message distribution center (MDC) and Intelligent Delivery Agent are implemented in a wireless Internet gateway interposed between content providers and a wireless carrier to subjectively examine and direct messages via SMTP based on desired rules (e.g., non-peak hours, paying subscribers only, etc.) using standard SMTP Gateway and other well-known protocols. The MDC includes an individual queue for each subscriber, and the provider is informed through conventional SMTP protocol messages that the short message has been accepted. If the carrier has specifically disallowed service for a particular MIN (e.g., in the case of churning), then the content provider is informed through an SMTP interchange that the recipient is invalid. An MDC provides a single mechanism for interacting with subscribers of multiple carriers, regardless of each carrier's underlying infrastructure.

Abstract: In a communication system, using source address, source port number, destination address and destination port number, terminals A and B located behind NAT routers A and B, respectively, communicate with each other through the NAT routers A and B. A server SV which is not located behind any NAT routers identifies the NAT router A as a NAT router of a certain type which translates the source port number into a different source port number if the destination port number is changed. The server SV then guesses a port number obtained by adding (or subtracting) a value to (or from) the source port number used for transmission of data from the terminal A through the NAT router A as a port number of the terminal A in a case where the NAT router has been identified as the certain type, and informs the terminal B of the guessed port number.

  • Patent number: 8738780
Abstract: A new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to support a hybrid solution that utilizes a centralized communication server as the main mechanism for communication between two clients (endpoints), but augments the server-based communication with an optional direct connection between the two clients whenever available while hiding the complexities and time spent dealing with the direct connection from the clients. The switch of the communication mode between the clients is kept transparent to them during their communication session without causing any inconvenience and/or disruption of the communication. When a direct endpoint to endpoint connection is not available the approach preserves the advantages of connecting through the intermediate communication server.
