  • Patent number: 9201599
Abstract: A method and system for transferring frames from a storage device to a host system via a controller is provided. The method includes transferring frames from a transport module to a link module; and sending an acknowledgment to the transport module, wherein the link module sends the acknowledgement to the transport module and it appears to the transport module as if the host system sent the acknowledgement. The frames in the controller are tracked by creating a status entry indicating that a new frame is being created; accumulating data flow information, while a connection to transfer the frame is being established by a link module; and updating frame status as frame build is completed, transferred, and acknowledged. The controller includes, a header array in a transport module of the controller, wherein the header array includes plural layers and one of the layers is selected to process a frame.

Abstract: Per-Function Downstream Port Containment (pF-DPC) is an extension to Downstream Port Containment (DPC) in the Peripheral Component Interconnect express (PCIe) standard. Pf-DPC confines non-fatal errors to specific functions of an end-point device without disabling the link between a PCIe port and the end-point device. PCIe ports configured for pF-DPC may filter (e.g., drop) packets carrying routing identifiers (RIDs) and/or addresses assigned to a function affected by a non-fatal error, while continuing to forward packets carrying RIDs/addresses associated with remaining operable functions over the corresponding link.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes a method for migration of a first virtual function of a first device located on a PCI bus and accessible by a device driver using a virtual address. A second virtual function is created on a second device. A base address is determined for the second virtual function as a function of a logical location of the second device within the PCI structure. An offset is determined for the second virtual function as a function of the base address and the virtual address. The device driver is notified that the first virtual function is on hold. The offset is stored in a translation table. The device driver is notified that the hold has been lifted. Accesses to the virtual address and by the device driver to memory of the second virtual function are routed based upon the offset in the translation table.

  • Patent number: 9026683
Abstract: A command portal enables a host system to send non-standard or “vendor-specific” storage subsystem commands to a storage subsystem using an operating system (OS) device driver that does not support or recognize such non-standard commands. The architecture thereby reduces or eliminates the need to develop custom device drivers that support the storage subsystem's non-standard commands. To execute non-standard commands using the command portal, the host system embeds the non-standard commands in blocks of write data, and writes these data blocks to the storage subsystem using standard write commands supported by standard OS device drivers. The storage subsystem extracts and executes the non-standard commands. The non-standard commands may alternatively be implied by the particular target addresses used. The host system may retrieve execution results of the non-standard commands using standard read commands.

Abstract: Systems and methods for streaming data. Systems allow read/write across multiple or N device modules. Device modules on a bus ring configure at power up (during initialization process); this process informs each device module of its associated address values. Each ringed device module analyzes an address indicator word, which identifies an address at which a read/write operation is intended for, and compares the address designated by the address indicator word to its assigned addresses; when the address designated by the address indicator word is an address associated with the device module, the device module read/writes from/to the address designated by the address indicator word. Memory controller (ring controller or master bus) is not required to ‘know’ which memory chip/device module in a daisy chain the address command word is intended for. Therefore, system embodiments allow streaming without consideration of a number of memory chips/device modules on bus.

  • Patent number: 8924602
Abstract: A rack server includes multiple power supply backplanes and multiple Fan Controller Boards (FCBs). The power supply backplanes each have a connection unit. The connection unit has multiple connection terminals. One of the connection terminals is coupled to a ground terminal. Positions of the connection terminals of the connection units coupled to the ground terminal are different from each other. The FCBs are coupled to one of the corresponding power supply backplanes respectively. The FCBs each include an addressing circuit and a microcontroller. The addressing circuit is coupled to the connection terminals of the corresponding connection unit, and is used to generate an address signal by detecting and according to a coupling relationship between the connection terminals and the ground terminal. The microcontroller is coupled to the addressing circuit, and is used to receive the address signal, so as to generate corresponding address information.

  • Patent number: 8924610
Abstract: SAS/SATA Store-Forward (SSSF) buffering enables SAS/SATA block storage devices capable of slower physical link rates to transfer data at a SAS topology data rate. 6 Gbps SAS and SATA disk drives can exchange data at 12 Gbps with 12 Gbps hosts through 12 Gbps SAS expanders employing an SSSF device. The SSSF device improves data transfer performance in the storage area network by optimizing host-side link utilization. The device includes a host-side interface communicating with the host at a host-side rate, a drive-side interface communicating with the target at a drive-side rate equal to or less than the host-side rate, a buffer receiving SAS frames or SATA FIS's, and control logic to control communication between the host-side interface and buffer at the host-side rate and between the drive-side interface and the buffer at the drive-side rate.

  • Patent number: 8914554
Abstract: A communication device including a comparison unit that compares a first identification number of which notification is provided by a packet that sequentially assigns identification numbers to a plurality of nodes in a network, and a second identification number, which is assigned to the communication device. A control unit notifies other nodes of the second identification number and that the identification number of the communication device has not been changed when the first identification number and the second identification number are in non-conformance.

  • Patent number: 8909833

Abstract: In one aspect of the present description, in an input/output (I/O) device having multiple CPUs and multiple I/O ports, a cycle of I/O port rotations is initiated in which each port rotation of the cycle includes rotating an assignment of at least one I/O port from one CPU to a different CPU of a plurality of the CPUs. In the illustrated embodiment, an I/O port assignment for each CPU of the plurality CPUs is rotated for at least a portion of the cycle. Other features and aspects may be realized, depending upon the particular application.

Abstract: A battery pack monitoring system is provided. The system includes a master microprocessor and a first microprocessor. The master microprocessor outputs a first signal from an output port thereof to induce an input port of the first microprocessor to have a first low logic voltage. The master microprocessor sends a message having a first binary ID from the communication bus port thereof through a communication bus after outputting the first signal. The first microprocessor receives the first binary ID at the communication bus port thereof and stores the first binary ID in a non-volatile memory of the first microprocessor when the input port of the first microprocessor has the first low logic voltage.

Abstract: A method for assigning addresses in a system having a first generator unit and at least one further generator unit positioned in parallel to the first generator unit. Each of the generator units has a control-signal input and a control-signal output. The control-signal input of each further generator unit is connected in each instance to the control-signal output of another of the generator units. Each of the further generator units receives an identification signal output at the control-signal output of a generator unit upstream of it, and assigns itself an individual address as a function of the respective identification signal received, the address depending on the length of the identification signal received.
