  • Patent number: 11960338
Abstract: An activity smoothener circuit is provided to control rates of change in processing activity to limit di/dt in activity areas of an IC to mitigate voltage droops or overshoots. Controlling the rate of change of activity prevents or reduces instances of a di/dt exceeding a programmed maximum that is based on physical limits of the IC and/or a package. In examples, the activity smoothener circuit includes a hierarchy of smoothening circuits controlling activity in areas down to individual circuit blocks (tiles) including execution circuits. An indication of a desired level of activity is provided to a parent smoothening circuit and the parent smoothening circuit responds with indications of actual activity allowed to occur. At each level of hierarchy, the activity smoothener circuit may use algorithms to generate indications of actual activity based on indications of desired activity and di/dt limits. Di/dt limits and current minimums and maximums are controlled.

  • Patent number: 11956744
Abstract: A distributed data acquisition system comprising multiple, physically unconnected, data acquisition units that can be in wireless communication with a remote host, timestamps measurement data with sub-microsecond time base accuracy of sampling clock relative to an absolute timeframe. Each unit has a GPS receiver for deriving an absolute time. An analog-to-digital converter samples measurement data using a sampling clock. A hardware logic circuit, such as a field programmable gate array, associates batches of the measurement data with corresponding timestamps representing the current absolute time. A time offset bias may be compensated by a comparison of timestamps with nominal time based on start time and nominal sampling rate. Additionally, the sampling clock may be synchronized using time pulses from the GPS receiver. An initial start of ADC sampling by all data acquisition units may be also synchronized.

Abstract: Examples described herein relate to management of battery-use by one or more computing resources in the event of a power outage. Data used by one or more computing resources can be backed-up using battery power. Battery power is allocated to data back-up operations based at least on one or more of: criticality level of data, priority of an application that processes the data, or priority level of resource. The computing resource can back-up data to a persistent storage media. The computing resource can store a log of data that is backed-up or not backed-up. The log can be used by the computing resource to access the backed-up data for continuing to process the data and to determine what data is not available for processing.

  • Patent number: 11809250
Abstract: A scheme to improve performance of power-constrained computers, comprising a heterogeneous mix of compute elements, by dynamically reacting to changes in the switching capacitance that present workload induces in each heterogeneous compute element and learning the coefficients of a power-frequency model for each compute element for the present workload. At each time step, the scheme forecasts a maximum frequency that the compute element can run at without exceeding an input power limit for a given workload. The scheme rapidly re-learns coefficients of the power model and rapidly adapts the frequency as the workload's characteristics shift ensuring that compute elements run at the maximum frequency they can while not exceeding the input power limit.

  • Patent number: 11740674
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein make previously stranded power capacity (power that is provisioned for a data center according to a computing system's nameplate power consumption but is currently not useable) available to the data center. Systems described herein generate empirical power profiles that specify expected upper bounds for the power consumption levels that applications trigger. Using the upper bounds for application power-consumption levels, a computing system described herein can reliably release part of its provisioned nameplate power for other systems or data center consumers, reducing the amount of stranded power in a data center. The method described herein avoids performance penalties for most jobs by using sensor measurements made at a rapid rate explained herein to ensure that a system power cap based on running application's measured peak power consumption is reliable with reference to the power capacitance inherent in the computing system.
