  • Patent number: 12242347
Abstract: Methods and systems for device shutdown in a deployment are disclosed. Device shutdown may be considered to conserve energy and simplify processes in a deployment. To conserve energy and simplify processes, all devices within a deployment may undergo a redundancy analysis and qualification analysis. The redundancy analysis may produce lists of redundant and non-redundant devices. All redundant devices may be candidates for device shutdown. Next, qualification analysis may qualify devices for shutdown by energy consumption and output data accuracy and uncertainty qualification. Devices that may not meet prescribed qualifiers may also be candidates for shutdown. With all devices that may be candidates for shutdown assembled in a list, device shutdown may commence in the deployment.

  • Patent number: 12244982
Abstract: Mapping of ports to other network components is generated by physically bending a fiber optic cable and then determining which optical network terminals experience a signal power loss (or receive attenuated signals) based on the bending. The physical bending can be done using a bending tool and the optical network terminals that experience the signal power loss can be identified using a back-end database operation. Generally, the correspondence between the physical bending and the power loss at the downstream components and or upstream components of the network is used to create the mapping of the ports at the splitter level.

Abstract: A power management scheme for USB systems. For Mobile systems that has re-timer, a handshake is used between power delivery (PD) controller, re-timer and embedded controller (EC) so that the PD controller can end higher wattage power contract on USB-C connector after TBT/USB4 link is in low power (CLd/U3) and during system low power transition allowing Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF) framework to boost CPU performance and enhance battery capacity respectively. The same solution can be extended to desktop segment to allow PD controller to lower the USB-C power contract with connected devices before switching to standby rail. For mobile systems that are without re-timer, a handshake is used between BIOS, PD controller and EC so that PD controller can end higher wattage power contract on USB-C connector after TBT/USB4 link is in low power (CLd/U3) and during system low power transition.

Abstract: Systems and methods provide thermal monitoring during updates to firmware used by managed hardware of an Information Handling System (IHS). A remote access controller of the IHS, that operates separate from CPUs of the IHS, initiates a firmware update for a hardware component via a bus mastered by the remote access controller. Except for transmissions in support of the firmware update, communications on the bus are blocked. While communications on the bus are blocked, a request is detected for transmission of a portion of the firmware update to the hardware component. A time is determined for responding to the request. Prior to the time for responding, a second of the hardware components of the IHS that shares the bus mastered by the remote access controller is polled for thermal data. During the firmware update of the hardware component, closed-loop cooling of the IHS is provided using the thermal data.

Proportional throttling has significantly less impact on performance and hence presents an opportunity to get back the lost bins and proportionally clip power if it exceeds a specification threshold. The ability to infer a magnitude of power excursion of a power virus event (and hence, the real Cdyn) above a set power threshold limit enables the processor to proportionally adjust the processor operating frequency to bring it back under the limit. With this scheme, the processor distinguishes a small power excursion versus a large one and reacts proportionally, yielding better performance.

Abstract: A dynamic peak power management system may prevent brownouts while improving performance and user experience compared to conventional techniques. A current threshold may be set below the maximum current capability (Imax) of a battery. If the current drawn from the battery exceeds the current threshold repeatedly, then system components may be throttled to decrease their peak power usage. If the current drawn from the battery stays below the current threshold for some time, then system components may be unthrottled to improve performance. This dynamic adaptable technique for managing peak power does not unnecessarily sacrifice performance by preemptively throttling system components to avoid the rare worst-case scenario where power spikes of system components perfectly align in time.

  • Patent number: 12093102
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for providing computer implemented services using managed systems are disclosed. To provide the computer implemented services, the managed systems may need to operate in a predetermined manner conducive to, for example, execution of applications that provide the computer implemented services. Similarly, the managed system may need access to certain hardware resources (e.g., and also software resources such as drivers, firmware, etc.) to provide the desired computer implemented services. To improve the likelihood of the computer implemented services being provided, the managed systems may be managed using a subscription based model. The subscription model may utilize a highly accessible service to obtain information regarding desired capabilities (e.g., a subscription) of a managed system, and use the acquired information to automatically configure and manage the features and capabilities of the managed systems by powering and depowering select components.

  • Patent number: 12038797
Abstract: Various devices, such as storage devices or storage systems are configured to avoid ungraceful shutdowns utilizing recycled power. Storage devices typically generate heat during normal operations. Energy recycling modules disposed on various components of the storage device recycle this heat. This recycled heat can be captured and converted into electricity that can be stored for later discharge and use. These energy recycling modules can be a series of semiconductors that utilize various natural effects to convert heat applied on one side of the module into electricity that can be delivered to various power storing components. The stored power can be utilized in the event of a sudden power loss in order to power one or more components necessary to perform a graceful shutdown. In this way, even when power is totally cut off from the storage device, there is enough stored recycled electricity that an ungraceful shutdown can be avoided.
