Abstract: The present disclosure includes apparatuses and methods related to power management in memory. Memory devices with multiple input/output ports may have the ports separately managed to transfer data from the various to a host or other components of the module based on certain power management signaling or constraints. For example, a memory device with multiple ports may be managed to transfer data to a host from one set of ports in response to power management (or other) signaling, and the device may be managed to transfer other data to another memory device in response to different power management (or other signaling). Power management may be done onboard a memory module with or without direction from a host. Power management may be performed by a dedicated integrated circuit. Data may be transferred from or between different classes of memory devices, using different ports, based on power management, e.g., criteria.

  • Patent number: 12135603
Abstract: Energy consumption associated with users of a distributed computing system can be monitored using tracing according to some examples described herein. In one such example, a system can execute tracing software configured to track usage of a software service and generate tracing information. The tracing information cant attribute the usage of the software service to a group of users. The system can analyze the tracing information to determine a portion of the usage to attribute to a given user. The system can then determine an energy consumption estimate for the user, for example based on the portion of the usage associated with the user and an energy consumption amount associated with the software service. A graphical user interface can be generated indicating the energy consumption estimate for the user.

  • Patent number: 12124319
Abstract: A dynamic peak power management system may prevent brownouts while improving performance and user experience compared to conventional techniques. A current threshold may be set below the maximum current capability (Imax) of a battery. If the current drawn from the battery exceeds the current threshold repeatedly, then system components may be throttled to decrease their peak power usage. If the current drawn from the battery stays below the current threshold for some time, then system components may be unthrottled to improve performance. This dynamic adaptable technique for managing peak power does not unnecessarily sacrifice performance by preemptively throttling system components to avoid the rare worst-case scenario where power spikes of system components perfectly align in time.

  • Patent number: 12124350
Abstract: A scheme is provided for a processor to measure or estimate the dynamic capacitance (Cdyn) associated with an executing application and take a proportional throttling action. Proportional throttling has significantly less impact on performance and hence presents an opportunity to get back the lost bins and proportionally clip power if it exceeds a specification threshold. The ability to infer a magnitude of power excursion of a power virus event (and hence, the real Cdyn) above a set power threshold limit enables the processor to proportionally adjust the processor operating frequency to bring it back under the limit. With this scheme, the processor distinguishes a small power excursion versus a large one and reacts proportionally, yielding better performance.

Abstract: Various devices, such as storage devices or storage systems are configured to avoid ungraceful shutdowns utilizing recycled power. Storage devices typically generate heat during normal operations. Energy recycling modules disposed on various components of the storage device recycle this heat. This recycled heat can be captured and converted into electricity that can be stored for later discharge and use. These energy recycling modules can be a series of semiconductors that utilize various natural effects to convert heat applied on one side of the module into electricity that can be delivered to various power storing components. The stored power can be utilized in the event of a sudden power loss in order to power one or more components necessary to perform a graceful shutdown. The method comprises determining a dynamic power threshold from the average total uplink transmit power according to a back-off power control loop. In the back-off power control loop, a setpoint value of total average transmission power is compared with a value of the estimated average total uplink transmit power. The method comprises setting a value of a power regulating parameter as function of the dynamic power threshold. The method comprises providing the value of the power regulating parameter to the terminal device for uplink power control of the terminal device.

Abstract: The technology described herein is directed towards determining a datacenter's power consumption of its devices at the workload level, from which an objective carbon footprint impact score can be determined. Devices can include servers, network devices such as switches, and storage devices. For a group of workloads at a location, workload power consumption values can be determined based on collected power-related workload metrics data. The power consumption values are used in determining per-workload carbon footprint values for the workloads based on the location. One or more actions can be taken to modify the respective carbon footprint values, e.g., moving a workload to a different location, changing device hardware, and so on.

Abstract: An activity smoothener circuit is provided to control rates of change in processing activity to limit di/dt in activity areas of an IC to mitigate voltage droops or overshoots. Controlling the rate of change of activity prevents or reduces instances of a di/dt exceeding a programmed maximum that is based on physical limits of the IC and/or a package. In examples, the activity smoothener circuit includes a hierarchy of smoothening circuits controlling activity in areas down to individual circuit blocks (tiles) including execution circuits. An indication of a desired level of activity is provided to a parent smoothening circuit and the parent smoothening circuit responds with indications of actual activity allowed to occur. At each level of hierarchy, the activity smoothener circuit may use algorithms to generate indications of actual activity based on indications of desired activity and di/dt limits. Di/dt limits and current minimums and maximums are controlled.

Abstract: A distributed data acquisition system comprising multiple, physically unconnected, data acquisition units that can be in wireless communication with a remote host, timestamps measurement data with sub-microsecond time base accuracy of sampling clock relative to an absolute timeframe. Each unit has a GPS receiver for deriving an absolute time. An analog-to-digital converter samples measurement data using a sampling clock. A hardware logic circuit, such as a field programmable gate array, associates batches of the measurement data with corresponding timestamps representing the current absolute time. A time offset bias may be compensated by a comparison of timestamps with nominal time based on start time and nominal sampling rate. Additionally, the sampling clock may be synchronized using time pulses from the GPS receiver. An initial start of ADC sampling by all data acquisition units may be also synchronized.
