Threshold Patents (Class 714/47.2)
  • Patent number: 8612804
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to systems and methods for improving wear leveling performance in solid-state memory. The embodiments described herein make more consistent the number of wear leveling operations that need to be performed, so that sudden spikes in the number wear leveling operations may be reduced in solid-state memory. In one embodiment, a rule-based wear leveling approach is used to spread out the execution of wear leveling operations that otherwise would have been triggered in clusters. Under the rule-based approach, wear leveling is periodically triggered by a specified interval of erase counts associated with a unit of solid-state memory such as a group of blocks, rather than by a threshold based on erase counts.

Abstract: A storage controller may be configured to assess the reliability of a solid-state storage medium. The storage controller may be further configured to project, forecast, and/or estimate storage reliability at a future time. The projection may be based on a currently reliability metric of the storage and a reliability model. The portions or sections of the solid-state storage media may be retired in response the projected reliability metric failing to satisfy a reliability threshold. The reliability threshold may be based on data correction and/or reconstruction characteristics. The projected reliability metrics of a plurality of erase blocks of a storage division may be combined, and one or more of the erase blocks may be retired in response to determining that the combined reliability metric projection fails to satisfy the reliability threshold.

Abstract: A method is used in analyzing drive errors in data storage systems. An error tag and total good I/O count are maintained for a drive. For each failed I/O, the following is performed. An error weight per error is retrieved. A new error tag is calculated from the error weight, a previous error tag, and the total good I/O count. An error ratio is calculated from the new error tag and a total I/O count. The error ratio is compared with thresholds. If one or more of the thresholds has been crossed, action is taken on the drive. The error tag is reduced as good I/O is produced.

Abstract: Metrics associated with computer code files within a codebase may be analyzed to identify bug-prone files. Functions of the method or system may determine metrics corresponding to each file of a plurality of codebase files within an application codebase. The functions may also store the metrics corresponding to each codebase file in a record of a database table, rank order the plurality of codebase files according to at least one metric, and flag each codebase file having a ranking over a threshold value of the metric. The codebase file metrics may describe fault-inducing characteristics of the plurality of codebase files and include both a total number of previous faults and a total number of changes that are associated with each codebase file.

Abstract: Processes, computer-readable media, and machines are disclosed for reducing a likelihood that active functional components fail in a computing system. An active monitoring component receives metrics associated with different active functional components of a computing system. The different active functional components contribute to different functionalities of the system. Based at least in part on the metrics associated with a particular active functional component, the active monitoring component determines that the particular active functional component has reached a likelihood of failure but has not failed. In response to determining that the particular active functional component has reached the likelihood of failure but has not failed, the active monitoring component causes a set of actions that are predicted to reduce the likelihood of failure.

Abstract: A computer system includes server computers, application program storage modules, a communication network, client computers, a database storage module, and a test data presentation module. The database storage module stores event data. The event data logs events that occur in the server computers during performance test runs. The test runs are performed in connection with a plurality of projects. The projects are defined for performance testing the application programs. The test data presentation module generates a test data screen display for rendering by one of the client computers. The test data screen display includes a data table. The data table presents event data relating to events that occurred during test runs for two or more of the projects.

  • Patent number: 8347144
Abstract: A method for reducing false alarms in a monitoring system comprising the steps of: providing an initial fault set (or a preliminary fault set) and using a decision process to successively reduce this initial fault set to a fault ensemble, said decision process using increasing probability or confidence in the initial fault set to generate the fault ensemble, which is considered to reflect a true abnormal condition; the decision process comprising at least two steps: the first step is generating a preliminary fault set by using a standard anomaly detection method with the additional variable (or adaptive) thresholds or temporal filters; the second step is using the preliminary fault set to generate at least one fault ensemble, each of which comprises a reduced number of refined faults that represent a more confident explanation of the cause(s) of an abnormal condition.

  • Patent number: 8341650
Abstract: Thread count analyzer programming enables automated monitoring of open process thread counts for a middleware web service, for example, in the context of Communication Enterprise Services (CCES) for providing customer account related notifications to customers/users of a mobile communications network. Web server thread counts are compared to first thresholds. In response to a high web server thread count, an impacted application server is identified, for example, by comparing application server thread counts to second thresholds. The procedure initiates a thread dump with regard to the impacted application server and provides notification to a support person together with information enabling access to a page of thread dump data. The exemplary thread count analysis can automatically detect a high thread count problem before there is an outage or any impact to the customer, accumulate relevant thread data, store such data in an accessible form, and provide automatic notice(s) for support personnel.

Abstract: A cloud migration system is described herein that provides capacity management and disaster recovery by detecting peak load conditions and automatically moving computing to another computing resource (and back) and by providing computing across two or more clouds and moving completely to one in the case of a disaster at one site. The system monitors loads within a datacenter and detects a threshold that indicates that the current load is nearing the datacenter's capacity. Upon detecting that the threshold will be reached, the system facilitates an orderly move of at least some datacenter load to another datacenter or cloud-based resources. The system can also be used as a disaster recovery architecture at a datacenter/network level to manage fast workload transition in case of disaster. Thus, the system allows enterprises to build smaller and more efficient datacenters that leverage other resources for rare extra loads.

Abstract: Operational speed of an integrated circuit chip is measured using one or more speed measurement elements, such as ring oscillators, disposed at various regions of the chip. Each speed measuring element can include several ring oscillators, each corresponding to a different technology threshold voltage. The speed measurement data collected from the speed measurement elements can be used to determine on-chip variation (OCV). Circuitry either on the chip itself or, alternatively, external to the chip can adjust a chip operational parameter, such as core voltage or clock speed, in response to the speed measurement data. Speed measurement data can be read out of the chip through JTAG pins or an interface to an external host.

  • Patent number: 8301940
Abstract: A method, system, and product for monitoring the availability of a data processing system are proposed. The system runs a management application involving the periodic transmission of blocks of data from multiple local computers to a central computer. Whenever a block of data must be transmitted by a generic local computer, an expected transmission delay of a next block of data (with respect to the current one) is estimated and attached to the block of data. The central computer receiving the updated block of data can calculate an expected receiving time of the next block of data accordingly. If the next block of data is not received in due time, the central computer determines a failure of the local computer. The central computer also scans a subset of ports of the local computer, to ascertain whether the problem is due to a temporary unavailability of the application.
