Resynchronization Of Failed Mirrors (epo) Patents (Class 714/E11.102)

Patent number: 12045489Abstract: Systems and methods for performing a fast resynchronization of a mirrored aggregate of a distributed storage system using disk-level cloning are provided. According to one embodiment, responsive to a failure of a disk of a plex of the mirrored aggregate utilized by a high-availability (HA) pair of nodes of a distributed storage system, disk-level clones of the disks of the healthy plex may be created external to the distributed storage system and attached to the degraded HA partner node. After detection of the cloned disks by the degraded HA partner node, mirror protection may be efficiently re-established by assimilating the cloned disks within the failed plex and then resynchronizing the mirrored aggregate by performing a level-1 resync of the failed plex with the healthy plex based on a base file system snapshot of the healthy plex. In this manner, a more time-consuming level-0 resync may be avoided.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2022Date of Patent: July 23, 2024Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Sangramsinh Pandurang Pawar, Bhoovaraghan Subramanian, William Derby Dallas, Sowkoor Sunad Bhandary, Rajesh Rajarman, FNU Sahasranshu

Patent number: 11818212Abstract: A storage area network (SAN)-attached storage system architecture is disclosed. The storage system provides strongly consistent distributed storage communication protocol semantics, such as SCSI target semantics. The system includes a mechanism for presenting a single distributed logical unit, comprising one or more logical sub-units, as a single logical unit of storage to a host system by associating each of the logical sub-units that make up the single distributed logical unit with a single host visible identifier that corresponds to the single distributed logical unit. The system further includes mechanisms to maintain consistent context information for each of the logical sub-units such that the logical sub-units are not visible to a host system as separate entities from the single distributed logical unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2020Date of Patent: November 14, 2023Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Santosh Ananth Rao, Geoffrey Stewart Brown, Srikumar Natarajan, Pranab Patnaik, Kai Tan, Peter Frank Corbett, Vivek Venkatesan

Patent number: 11803309Abstract: Described herein are techniques for managing replication in a data storage environment. The techniques including selectively compressing and selectively encrypting, by a production site, a set of files for replication from the production site to a remote site. Files can be selectively compressed based on a compression ratio satisfying a compression threshold, and files can be selectively encrypted based on a file content satisfying an encryption criteria. The techniques can further include updating, by the production site, metadata associated with selectively compressed files and updating metadata associated with selectively encrypted files. The techniques can further include replicating the set of files for replication from the production site to the remote site, the set of files for replication including the selectively compressed and the selectively encrypted files.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2019Date of Patent: October 31, 2023Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Komal Shailendra Shah, Bharti Soni, Subhojit Roy

Patent number: 11636015Abstract: A storage system includes a plurality of storage nodes. The storage node includes: one or more storage devices which respectively provide a storage area; and one or more control software which read/write requested data from/into the corresponding storage device according to a request from a higher-level device, wherein each of the control software retains predetermined configuration information required for reading/writing requested data from/into the corresponding storage device according to a request from the higher-level device, wherein a plurality of the control software are managed as a redundancy group, and the configuration information retained in each of the control software belonging to the same redundancy group is synchronously updated, and wherein the plurality of control software configuring the redundancy group are each deployed in respectively different storage nodes so as to distribute a load of each of the storage nodes.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2021Date of Patent: April 25, 2023Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Masakuni Agetsuma, Yuko Matsui, Shintaro Ito, Hideo Saito

Patent number: 11604595Abstract: A method for managing composed information handling systems includes receiving, by a system control processor, a mirroring policy from a system control processor manager, receiving an application write request from a first application instance, based on the application write request and the mirroring policy: initiating servicing of the application write request by a first composed information handling system, initiating servicing of an SCP write request by a second composed information handling system, wherein the SCP write request is based on the application write request, receiving a SCP response from the SCP write request from a second system control processor, wherein a second composed information handling system comprises the second system control processor and is executing a second application instance of the cluster application, and sending a write response to the first application instance, wherein the write response is based, at least in part, on the SCP response.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2020Date of Patent: March 14, 2023Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Yossef Saad, William Price Dawkins
