Backup Management Techniques (epo) Patents (Class 714/E11.121)
  • Patent number: 11907082
Abstract: A stream of source system storage changes associated with an object are received at a backup system from a source system. The source system storage changes associated with the object are provided to a remote data recovery system. The remote data recovery system is configured to store the provided source system storage changes associated with the object. The backup system is utilized to generate one or more reference restoration points based on the stream of source system storage changes associated with the object.

  • Patent number: 11630839
Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for merging multiple point-in-time copies into a merged point-in-time copy. A repository maintains a full copy of the source data and point-in-time copies at point-in-times of the source data. Each of the point-in-time copies have change information indicating changed data in the source data that changed between the point-in-time of the point-in-time copy and a subsequent point-in-time and changed point-in-time data comprising data in the source data as of the point-in-time of the point-in-time copy indicated in the change information as changed. At least two selected of the point-in-time copies in the repository are merged into a merged point-in-time copy by: forming merged change information in the merged point-in-time copy indicating changed data indicated in change information for the selected point-in-time copies; and forming merged changed data in the merged point-in-time copy from the changed data in the selected point-in-time copies.

  • Patent number: 11611479
Abstract: Software, firmware, and systems are described herein that migrate functionality of a source physical computing device to a destination virtual machine. A non-production copy of data associated with a source physical computing device is created. A configuration of the source physical computing device is determined. A configuration for a destination virtual machine is determined based at least in part on the configuration of the source physical computing device. The destination virtual machine is provided access to data and metadata associated with the source physical computing device using the non-production copy of data associated with the source physical computing device.

  • Patent number: 11513696
Abstract: A scalable approach is disclosed for processing auxiliary-copy jobs in a storage management system by using distributed media agent resources instead of a centralized storage manager. Enhanced media agents coordinate and control auxiliary-copy jobs and tap the storage manager to reserve data streams and provide job-specific metadata on demand. An enhanced storage manager may initially select a media agent as “coordinator” to coordinate auxiliary-copy jobs with any number of other media agents, which act as “controllers.” A coordinator media agent is generally responsible for obtaining data stream reservation information from the storage manager and assigning auxiliary-copy jobs to respective controller media agents, based on the components involved in the respective reserved data streams.

  • Publication number: 20120159239
Abstract: Disclosed is a power isolation and backup system. When a power fail condition is detected, temporary storage is flushed to an SDRAM. After the flush, interfaces are halted, and power is removed from most of the chip except the SDRAM subsystem. The SDRAM subsystem copies data from an SDRAM to a flash memory. On the way, the data may be encrypted, and/or a data integrity signature calculated. To restore data, the SDRAM subsystem copies data from the flash memory to the SDRAM. On the way, the data being restored may be decrypted, and/or a data integrity signature checked.

  • Patent number: 8180989
Abstract: A storage controller having a plurality of storage devices and a control circuit providing a plurality of virtual volumes, to each of which a storage area in a plurality of pool volumes provided with the plurality of storage devices can be mapped for writing data in response to a write access sent from an information processing apparatus to a logical area in one of the plurality of virtual volumes, respectively. The control circuit, according to a search of the plurality of pool volumes for a certain storage area in which a certain data pattern is written, releases the certain storage area from mapping to a logical area in the plurality of virtual volumes, so that the control circuit can use the released certain storage area for mapping to a virtual volume of the plurality of virtual volumes as a destination of another write access from the information processing apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20110218967
Abstract: A block based backup system may perform several partial backups to incrementally transfer backup information to a backup system. Each partial backup may build on the previous backup and the partial backups may be marked as unable to be used for restoration. In some cases, the partial backups may be portions of a file system snapshot, while in other cases, the partial backups may include any changes that occurred since a last partial backup. The size of the partial backups may be dynamically changed depending on network connections, workloads, and other factors.

  • Patent number: 7681002
Abstract: A storage control technique with which, even if not data, but only its management information is deleted, a host system can recognize storage areas storing unnecessary data and so use them effectively. When a file system in the host system deletes the management information for data stored in a page in a pool volume, a control circuit writes ‘0’ in all the areas in the deletion target page in response to a command from the host system. The control circuit then detects the page where ‘0’ is written in all of its areas and releases it from allocation to the corresponding virtual volume.

  • Publication number: 20080086658
Abstract: The backup system discussed herein uses a control device optimally for a backup process, and to process backup requests within a short period of time. Moreover, the system also provides a control device which operates stably even when a congested state occurs in the communication link connecting a plurality of devices and the control device and thereby a fault occurs in the communication link. The control device includes a queuing unit to process data backup process requests received from a plurality of devices and administrating an execution sequence, and an execution control processing unit executing a plurality of backup processes administrated in the queuing unit within a range of a predetermined value. Jobs are executed on the queue when the number of jobs simultaneously executing is less than the predetermined value.
