Abstract: Computer software and/or hardware configured to select a first tape medium of a first pool and a second tape medium of a second pool based, at least in part, on a migration command for a file, instruct a tape drive to write the file to both the first tape medium of the first pool and a third tape medium of a system pool of a tape library, record a file identifier (ID) for the file and an identifier for the second tape medium of the second pool in a copy tape database (CTDB), wherein the file ID points to the file written to the third tape medium of the system pool, and instruct the tape drive to read the file from the third tape medium of the system pool utilizing the file ID in the CTDB and to write the file to the second tape medium of the second pool.

Abstract: Embodiments for predictive scheduling of backups in a data protection system by initiating a first backup job in a series of scheduled consecutive backup jobs, wherein a second backup job is allowed to begin only after the first backup job is finished and not active, detecting whether or not the first backup job is still active when a second job is to start, and if so, estimating an amount of additional time required to finish the first backup job. The second backup job is then rescheduled to start at least at the end of the additional time. The estimated amount of additional time is determined using a throughput to target storage device parameter. This parameter is periodically checked to determine if there is a change to the estimated amount of additional time, and if so, the estimated time is recalculated based on the changed parameter.
Abstract: Digital data sanitization is disclosed. An indication that a data sanitization process should be performed is received. The data sanitization process is performed. Performing the data sanitization process includes determining an amount of free space on a storage device. Performing the data sanitization process further includes performing a set of one or more write operations, where performing the write operations decreases the amount of free space on the storage of the device.

Abstract: In order to provide a storage system for enabling an administrator to manage information for each apparatus in a straightforward manner, the present invention comprises an acquiring section for acquiring a connection relationship of host apparatus, host management apparatus, storage apparatus, and storage management apparatus, a storage relationship for programs of every host apparatus, and a saving time period for saving data of every program, based on external operation, and a display control section for displaying the connection relationship and storage relationship acquired by the acquiring section on a display screen, and displaying the saved time period of every program on the same screen as the connection relationship and the storage relationship.
