The system and method further provide determining at least one marking within the at least one letter; and determining a location for the at least one marking within the at least one letter, wherein the combination of the at least one marking and the location for the at least one marking corresponds to the numerical value.

Abstract: Users may be protected from scumware included on or associated with web sites indexed by a search engine. The search engine may, for instance take the presence of scumware into account when ranking or determining whether a document matches a search query or provide information with search results that indicates that a particular search result link may be associated with scumware. In one implementation, a search engine generates search results for a search query to obtain documents that are relevant to the search query. The search engine may then format the search results as a web page that includes visual indicators associated with those of the relevant documents that have been determined to be associated with scumware.

Abstract: A system modifies documents to aid users in determining which of the entries in the documents to choose. The system identifies a document that includes one or more entries. The system determines a score for each of the entries and modifies the identified document, or entries in the identified document, based on the determined scores. Abstract: A method for presenting a page, having a set of links, on a data processing system is provided. The page is preprocessed to form a processed page, wherein the processed page is unpresented within the data processing system. A determination is made as to whether or not the links within the page fall within a proximity policy. Responsive to a determination that the page falls outside of the proximity policy, the page is reformatted to fall within the proximity policy. The mechanism of the present invention includes a preprocessing process and a policy structure for reformatting an electronic document page. The policy structure of the present invention allows the user to specify the appearance of the electronic document page. The policy structure as defined by the user is stored such that when the user returns to the page, the page may be displayed according to the policy structure defined by the user.

Systems and methods for ranking pages and/or hosts based on session data and/or traffic data are also provided. According to the invention, session maps can be created using DNS and/or ISP data. Systems and methods for ranking pages and/or hosts for the purpose of doing business are also provided.

Abstract: A site redirection system and corresponding methods for redirecting a user from a requested site to a target site is provided. When a user navigates to a site on which the redirection system is implemented, the site downloads onto the user's machine client-side redirection logic. The client-side redirection logic collects the machine's configuration information and passes the collected configuration information to the site. On the site, server-side redirection logic uses the received configuration information to determine a target URL based on the configuration information passed by the client-side redirection logic. The server-side redirection logic then passes the target URL to the client-side redirection logic where the final redirection occurs.

Abstract: One or more computers are programmed to obtain an identifier of a natural language (“session language”). Additionally, the one or more computers are programmed to create and store in a computer memory, a webpage to be displayed to the user, including at least a title of a piece of content. In addition, the one or more computers automatically use the language identifier to select from among multiple tags that are expressed in multiple languages, a set of tags in the session language. One or more tags in the selected set are then stored in the web page in the computer memory, if the selected set is non-zero. If the number of tags in the selected set is zero (i.e. there exist no tags in the session language), in some embodiments a message is included in the webpage, indicating that there are no tags available.

Abstract: Systems and methods allow a user of a text or graphics editor to quickly create multiple robust internet search queries by selecting and ranking groups or individual key words from a document. A user who is composing or reading a document can identify and link multiple sets of key words into separate search queries by highlighting and assigning either unique search numbers, colors or other readily ascertained indicators of their logical relation. Each individual search query is routed to selected internet search engines, and the results are returned to the user in the same viewed document. The user may select the form in which the results are displayed. For example, results may be listed within the document by way footnotes, endnotes, or separate hover or pull-down windows accessible from the search terms. In addition, the user can browse, sort, rank, edit or eliminate portions of the results.

Abstract: Links may be added to a document in such a way that the links are displayed in response to a user behavior. In one example, a document has both explicit and non-explicit links. Explicit links may be highlighted by a browser at the time the page is rendered, while non-explicit links may be highlighted in response to a user's behavior, such as hovering over a linked word or phrase for some number of seconds. In one example, the non-explicit links may be included in the document through a script. The script may detect the user behavior that causes the non-explicit links to be activated, and may also identify the specific Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) to which the non-explicit links point. The addition of non-explicit links may help a user do further research on topics that arise in a document.

In one implementation, before a user activates a link in a document, such as a hyperlink on a webpage, the user can designate the link. For example, the user can float a cursor over the link or interact with an icon placed proximate to the link. By designating the link, the user can request reputation information associated with the link, including information as to whether or not content associated with the link, an application used to access the content, and/or source(s) on which the content resides, are known to be dangerous or risky. If the reputation information indicates that the link is safe to activate, the user can activate the link and access the content. Alternately, if the reputation information indicates that the link is unsafe to access, the user can choose to forego activation of the link.

Abstract: A method of displaying and navigating information using a hierarchical, spring loaded DHTML menu system that adjusts to fit the boundaries of a resizable, container (FIG. 1). A set of standard HTML table row elements, having a hierachical dependency (11), is consistently displayed as a web-page, under reasonable resizing. This is done using a strut row that produces the largest width requirement when the table structure is resizing to occupy a small width. Only the current row elements and the strut element are required in calculating table resizing to ensure that whichever data elements are displayed when a web-page resizing occurs, the browser auto-layout algorithm calculations will result in a resize attributes that enables all other row elements of that menu to be accommodated by the newly determined table width. As the row elements may themselves be table structures, nested menus of information may be displayed and navigated (12).

Abstract: A data entry restriction program capable of rejecting invalid structured documents out of structured documents of a general-purpose format with great flexibility. When a structured document is entered, a data entry restriction apparatus compares the structure of the structured document with flexibility requirements (step S1). When the structured document does not meet the flexibility requirements, the data entry restriction apparatus records error information in association with the sending client of the document (step S2). After the error information associated with the client exceeds prescribed limits, the data entry restriction apparatus rejects structured documents from the client (step S3). The plurality of links are determined by the search engine by: producing search results by rerunning a plurality of search queries that have been performed previously for the computer user; and evaluating the produced search results to select search results that meet predefined search result selection criteria. At least one of the criteria is based on Internet usage data for the user.

Abstract: Prominence data resulting from user interaction with a hyperlink on a page may be stored in one or more repositories. Prominence data may be collected automatically when the user views a page or clicks on a hyperlink without requiring separate action from the user to accomplish storage or retrieval. The prominence data may further include a display parameter that denotes a level of prominence that is usable to affect the display of a hyperlink. A prominence score used to determine the display parameter may be calculated by dividing a count of click-throughs by a count of page views of the page containing the hyperlink. Other score calculations may be used. User feedback may be incorporated into the score calculation and may be collected through a toolbar, popup window, or other feedback-collecting mechanism.

Abstract: A presence management system may communicate contact information with mapped values. Contact information may be stored in a hierarchical, extensible structure (“hierarchical extensible contact structure”). Devices in a presence management system utilize a mapping scheme to map contact values (e.g., e-mail address, phone number, etc.) to the appropriate field of the hierarchical extensible contact structure. When devices in the presence management system communicate information for thousands of contacts, employing mapped values to navigate the hierarchical extensible contact structure reduces the size of the messages, thus reducing resource consumption (e.g., bandwidth), particularly on the scale of an enterprise.

Abstract: A system and computer program product for updating a configuration of a websheet. A client receives a web page including the websheet from a server. The websheet includes data values stored in a relational database table. The table includes a first set of data values displayed in cells of the websheet in response to the client receiving the web page. The table also includes a second set of data values associated with the websheet configuration. Second set data values are not displayed in the websheet in response to the client receiving the web page. A form displaying the second set is received by the client. Second set data values are updated on the form to provide an updated websheet configuration. With its updated configuration, the websheet is displayed at the client and allows data entry to modify or add first set data values.

The hyperlinking process further identifies a plurality of subparts of the uniform resource locator. Additionally, the hyperlinking process receives a selection of a subpart of the uniform resource locator that identifies a selected subpart. In response to the selection of the subpart, the hyperlinking process references the distinct location associated with the selected subpart.

Abstract: A method and system for enabling the display of portions of internet documents that have been highlighted by users of a highlighting service are disclosed. Accordingly, a highlighting service includes a web portal with a web page providing users with a snippet of code, which, when inserted into an internet document, causes the internet document to display highlights from the highlighting service. The snippet of code can be configured to query the highlighting service for highlights that were made by certain users, or, highlights made on documents from certain domains, and so forth. The code associated with the user interface object displaying the highlights can e configured to periodically query the highlighting service to retrieve up-to-date highlights, thereby dynamically changing the highlights appearing on a web page or internet document.

Abstract: Methods and system for customizing a webpage include generating a schematic representation of the webpage. The webpage includes a plurality of section elements that are customizable. The schematic representation identifies a plurality of schematic section elements corresponding to the plurality of section elements of the webpage. The schematic representation is rendered alongside the webpage and provides visual navigation through various section elements of the webpage. A schematic section element is identified and selected from the schematic representation, for customizing. The selection of the schematic section element triggers rendering of one or more navigation links associated with the selected schematic section element. The navigation links provide tools or options enabling customization. Changes to one or more attributes associated with the selected schematic section element representing customization are received and the attributes are updated at the schematic representation in real-time.

Abstract: In a computing environment, a method for forming an association between a first data object and a second data object includes forming a first association fragment, where the first association fragment includes information relevant to accessing the first data object. The method also includes forming a second association fragment. The second association fragment may include information relevant to accessing the second data object. The first association fragment and the second association fragment cause an association to be effectively formed between the first data object and the second data object.

Abstract: A process for generating personalized digital directory pages for display with a navigator program including a personalization step including recording in a temporary memory of a client station a digital file corresponding to an HTML page comprising hypertext links for access to other pages and descriptors associated with pictograms and proceeding to a display of the page on the client station, recording in a temporary memory of the client station at least one personalization file comprising a link identifier and at least one personalization descriptor selected by the user, transmitting the content of the temporary memory to the server, and recording in a server memory the personalization file data linked with the user identifier and the link identifier in question.

Abstract: Novel techniques and tools for authoring multimedia compositions are presented. The novel techniques and tools allow an author of a multimedia composition to create a multimedia composition by dragging assets from a first window containing a project's unused assets and placing the assets into a structural relationship in a second window. The author may also remove assets from the structural relationship in the second window and return the assets to the first window of unused assets. The novel techniques and tools allow an author of a multimedia composition to better keep track of the assets to be used in the multimedia composition.

The EDI reports and the EDI source data can be markup based documents. Each EDI report rendered within the EDI report section can include one or more hyperlinks. Each rendered hyperlinks can be mapped to a designated portion of the EDI source data.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for a list display with redundant text removal, the method including firstly displaying within a display area on a computer display at least a portion of a first item of a group of consecutive list items that share either of a common prefix and a common suffix, and a secondly displaying in a next list item display location of the display area an abbreviation indicator contiguous with a portion of a next item in the group, where the portion is at least partially unique to the next item with respect to positionally-corresponding portions of the other items in the group.

Abstract: A method for shortening a web page title. The method includes determining if a title of a current web page fits in a title display area of a display. If the title fits the title is displayed in the title area. If the title does not fit, it is determined if the title of the current web page starts with a same word as a title of a previous page. If the title of the current web page starts with the same word, at least one word is removed from a beginning portion of the title of the current page that is in common with the title of the previous page, until the title of the current page fits in the title display area, or there are no more common words in the beginning of the title. End words or letters or end words can be removed until the title fits. Missing words may be indicated by adding a predetermined indicator in the area of the missing or removed words.

Abstract: A method and a system for presenting Internet information to a user including providing to a user a visual image of a web page containing at least one hyperlink, and at least partially concurrently providing a visual image of another web page of at least one web site which is represented by the at least one hyperlink.

Abstract: The disclosed system translates into different languages HTML documents available through the World Wide Web. HTML documents are translated by machine translation software bundled in a browser. Alternatively, documents are retrieved as needed, translated, and stored on a Web server so user requests are serviced with a document that has been translated from a different language. The disclosed invention expands usage of the Internet for non-English speakers.
