Abstract: The present invention provides for variable data printing by a print driver. Static print data is received, wherein the static print data is in a page description language. Variable print data is also received, wherein the variable print data comprises one or more sets of variable data. In addition, mapping rule data is received, wherein the mapping rule data comprises rules for mapping the one or more sets of variable data into the static print data. One or more modified versions of the static print data are generated, by applying the rules for mapping the one or more sets of variable data into the static print data. The one or more modified versions of the static print data are output for printing. As such, virtually any application can have VDP functionality, and a less complex VDP solution can be realized.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to performing a query for a search term of a database containing a plurality of structured documents. Those structured documents that do not include the search term are ferreted or filtered out during an initial search. Matched structured documents which are those structured documents that do contain the search term are evaluated by ranking the individual elements based on how well each individual element matches the search term, and indicating to the user the ranking of the individual elements wherein the individual elements can be accessed by the user.

Abstract: A method for creating an electronic form for publication comprising responsive to first user input allowing a user to create the electronic form using a form-creating user interface wherein the user defines the fields and their values for the electronic form that is modeled after format information as specified by an entity; responsive to second user input allowing a user to fill in the electronic form to create a populated form; automatically creating the electronic message compliant with the format information; and transmitting the electronic message to the entity for publication. The user interface allows the user to create the form in compliant with the format information, thereby automating the process for flexible creation and publication of forms without a need to modify the software program for each entity, hence eliminating the manual process and saving time and money as well as creating more competition in the market.

Some embodiments, are operable to process a new or modified background layer image to identify input fields, to match the identified fields with metadata in foreground layer data defining interactive input fields, and to modify the mappings of the input fields defined within the foreground layer of a page description language document as a function of identified input fields in the modified background layer image.

The digital compound machine includes: a unit configured to generate an input screen based on input screen configuration information received from the server beforehand; a unit configured to send, to the server, the image data, image data information and a DB key value, wherein the image data information is for associating the image data with the input screen configuration information and is input from the input screen, and wherein the DB key value is for associating the database with the input screen configuration information. Abstract: The disclosed system empowers technical and non technical users to author logical business objects, author intelligent business forms, and create automated workflows. The logical business objects include data definitions and methods from existing and new data sources. An object broker interprets the business object definition and brokers data/information and method calls to the data sources. The intelligent business forms are created by an information worker in a rich web-based tooling environment. Each form is intelligent enough to recognize other forms that it might co-exist with on a single page, as well as how to react based on events that occur on these related forms. The automated workflow tools include process discovery features that assist users during the process identification phase. The tools assist both technical and non technical users to identify processes within the organization, including supporting solution artifacts such as forms, rules, actions, outcomes and business objects involved.

Second set data values are not displayed in the websheet in response to the client receiving the web page. A form displaying the second set is received by the client. Second set data values are updated on the form to provide an updated websheet configuration. With its updated configuration, the websheet is displayed at the client and allows data entry to modify or add first set data values.

Abstract: A method for optimizing forms includes generating a profile of a user of a web browser on a client computer and loading into the web browser a vendor form including a field to be filled in with information provided by the user. The form also includes a tag invoking a script-based engine. Software code is stored corresponding to a plurality of layers containing interactive instructions for assisting the user in filling in the field. Responsively to the tag, the script-based engine is loaded into the web browser. Responsively to at least one profile parameter of the user, a portion of the software code is selected and downloaded to the web browser, so that a layer from among the plurality of layers is displayed by the web browser. Via the displayed layer, input is received from the user for filling in the field.

Abstract: Merging data from LOB applications into document templates within productivity applications without the need for custom programming is provided. A document template within a productivity application is provided, and an XML schema is attached to the document template. The XML schema allows the LOB application data to be modeled generically using a business object paradigm. Meta-data is accessed from the LOB application. Using the attached XML schema, a user may mark-up the document template with schema nodes corresponding to the meta-data from the LOB application. Data from the LOB application may then be accessed and merged into the schema nodes, creating a data-merged document. Data may be further interactively merged from the LOB application into the data-merged document.

Abstract: A system and method for selective form configuration. According to an embodiment of the invention, an engine retrieves a form template from a data store, the form template specifying a plurality of form elements, parses the form template to identify one or more configurable form elements from the plurality of form elements, presents to a user via a user interface one or more selectable options specifying configuration settings to govern modifications of the one or more identified configurable form elements, receives from the user interface a selection of the one or more options provided by the user, generates a descriptor identifying the selected options provided by the user, and associates the descriptor with the form template.

Abstract: A method and system for applying input mode bias is disclosed. A schema is applied to an input field of an electronic document. The schema is associated with a grammar that defines the set of acceptable strings that may be input into the input field. When text is input into the input field, the schema is determined and the associated grammar is determined. The grammar is then sent to the input method. Based on the grammar, the input method may determine what text the user is trying to enter. The grammar may also be used to apply semantic categories to text input into a document. After the text is entered it is compared to a grammar. If the entered text matches the form of the grammar, then the schema is applied to the text as a semantic category.

Abstract: A multiple employer city government jobs posting system includes at least one server connected to a public wide area network that hosts a website accessible over the network. The website includes software that allows multiple city governments to register for use of the website, to post and manage job announcements and prospective job announcements and allows multiple prospective employees to register for use of the website, prepare and save electronic resumes, and submit the electronic resumes to the city governments in response to the prospective job announcements. Electronic job applications are provided and prospective employees can submit online to city governments. The website requires city governments to provide a city profile and links to city government web pages. The system allows prospective employees to search for posted job announcements, prospective job announcements, city hyperlinks and profiles.

Abstract: A system and method for customizing mobile-form applications via a web-based interface for distribution to a mobile device are disclosed. An example method includes providing a customizable mobile-form application template. The list is generated by cross-referencing the initial content with content of documents in the corpus, and each entry in the initial list is assigned a corresponding initial ranking value based upon the cross-referencing. The user is presented with an initial list of documents of interest from within the corpus on the basis of the initial ranking values. Responsive to one or more updates of the editable document by the user, one or more further lists of documents are generated based upon updated content of the document. The process may be repeated to provide the user with ongoing feedback of relevant documents within the corpus.

Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus are directed to managing auxiliary content through an enhanced content management system (ECMS), for such as a blog, over a network. Auxiliary content may be selected from a networked device over the network for integration with another site, such as the blog. Such auxiliary content may include graphics, advertisements including sponsored advertisements, selectable audio clips, or the like. When the auxiliary content is selected, and a identifier of the other site is provided, data that may include a script, code, or the like, and that enables access to the auxiliary content is provided to the ECMS using the identifier. The ECMS may then use the data to position the auxiliary content within the other site. Once the position is determined, automatic incorporation of the auxiliary content within a webpage may also be performed using the ECMS.

Abstract: A method of aiding a user in using features of a software application comprises receiving from a user a selection of layout. The layout is to be used in creating an informational display for displaying results of a data repository query. At least one input field and an image are displayed to the user. The image is of a sample informational display that is based on the selected layout. The at least one input field is displayed in association with at least one feature shown in the displayed sample image. A user input is received via the input field. The user input is to be used in modifying the at least one feature in the new informational display. That least one input field may be displayed on top of the displayed sample image, in close proximity to the shown feature.

Abstract: Systems and/or methods (“tools”) are described that convert or present conversion problems for electronic documents. The tools may convert a generally unstructured electronic document to a generally structured electronic document using non-visual textual and layout information of the unstructured document. The tools can also present possible problems with this or other types of conversion. And the tools can enable a user to alter an electronic document's schema without altering its visual layout.

Abstract: A method of reviewing inventions using a review board made up of two or more members to determine a final disposition for the invention such as retaining the invention as a trade secret or filing a patent application for the invention. The review is conducted so that no unacceptable comments are made about the inventor or his/her invention. The method further involves identifying problems solved by the invention, identifying the elements of the invention in view of the problems and then drafting a claim in view of the elements. The claim is modified during the review process based on one or more parameters such as business value, prior art and operability of the invention. The rendered UI form is populated with the data represented in the logical UI representation to provide content for the rendered UI form.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for determining the layout of a form automatically to accommodate text in the form. Under the method and apparatus, a set of parameters define the sizing and alignment of elements of the form. Sizing and positioning instructions that are separate from the sizing and alignment parameters set the sizing and positioning of elements of the form based on the sizing and alignment parameters. The instructions determine the minimum size for the form, based in part on text in the form. The difference between the minimum size for the form and a desired size for the form is then distributed across the form to size and position the elements in the form.

Abstract: A method of generating a report from multiple sources includes obtaining a topic based on input queries relating to the topic, obtaining information about the topic from the multiple sources, where the information includes excerpts from the multiple sources that meet one or more criteria, and generating the report using the excerpts. Generating the report includes obtaining subtopics for the excerpts, organizing the excerpts based on the subtopics, and editing text in the excerpts.

Abstract: A web page is composed using a browser that displays an authoring web page containing an authoring tool embedded in the authoring web page. The authoring web page, as displayed in a browser window, includes a web page editing region that displays a web page under construction. The web page editing region further includes one or more user-specified instances of structured fields, each instance responsible for hosting content entered directly by the web page author through the browser window or identified by the web page authoring using the authoring tool. A composed web page is published, for example on the Internet. Thereafter, the composed web page can be rendered in a browser window of any client computer or device in a style consistent with the user-entered content in the web page editing region.
